Wyatt Winslow paused, then said with great seriousness, "Holly is a girl, and girls can be more vulnerable than boys. I hope you’ll always consider her well-being, which is also for your own good."

"Once you’re both able to stand on your own, I won’t manage or interfere with your lives."

"Is that okay?"

That last phrase, "Is that okay?", was clearly out of respect for Mortir Quincy, or perhaps out of consideration for Holly’s feelings.

When it ca to his daughter’s puppy love, Wyatt Winslow had indeed considered many things. He had struggled for a long ti to move from his initial disapproval to his current acceptance.

"Uncle Winslow, don’t worry. I won’t do anything I’m not supposed to," Mortir promised, eting his gaze directly, though his words didn’t sound entirely convincing.

Wyatt Winslow nodded. "Good."

After that, neither of them said anything else.

When Holly ca over, Mortir took the bowl from her hand. "I’m heading back to the classroom. You can show your dad around the school."

Holly nodded, then affectionately looped her arm through Wyatt Winslow’s. "Dad, I’ll take you to see the display board. Hehe, I’m on it."

"But the photo makes look so fat. It’s not flattering at all, it’s really ugly."

In the second fra on the display board for outstanding students, the girl had a vibrant, youthful smile. Wyatt Winslow’s expression softened a little. "It’s lovely."

He had said "It’s lovely" so suddenly that Holly didn’t react at first. It took her more than ten seconds to realize he was complinting her photo.

Suddenly, she felt a pang of sadness and the urge to cry. This was all sothing she had missed out on before.

She suppressed the ache in her heart and said with a beaming smile, shaking her head, "It’s because I look like my dad."

It’s because I look like my dad.

This sentence touched the softest spot in Wyatt Winslow’s heart. Ever since Holly was born, everyone had said she looked like Yvonne Lewis.

In truth, he had also wanted to hear people say Holly looked like him.

Because Holly was his daughter, too.

His only daughter.

...

On the balcony of the advanced class, a boy watched the girl in the white sweater head up the stairs from the ground floor. He raised an eyebrow, then turned and walked toward the stairwell.

Holly had just gone up one flight of stairs when she saw Mortir coming down. She asked, "Where are you going?"

"Where else? To pick up my wife." Mortir gave her a wink.

Holly let out two satisfied little huffs and proactively linked her arm with his. "What did Dad say just now?"

"Told to behave."

Mortir shrugged innocently. "I’m already behaving. Otherwise, we’d have a kid by now."

Holly: "..."

For so reason, she felt he had a point.

She went through the things Wyatt Winslow had brought one by one. Besides fruit, there were also two thick jackets and pairs of pants.

The clothes were brand new, but they had clearly been washed. They slled of the laundry detergent from ho.

Holly’s nose began to tingle again. She took out a jacket and put it on, feeling much warr at once.

She casually felt the pocket and sensed sothing inside. Reaching in, she pulled out several hundred-yuan bills.

Her eyes gradually misted over. She stuffed the money back into her pocket and turned her head to look out the window.

The more she understood the fatherly love Wyatt Winslow gave her, the more she blad herself and the sadder she beca. How had he gotten through that ti, divorced and estranged from his daughter?

Mortir noticed her mood. He slid over, chair and all, and tilted his head to look at her. "Wifey, your hubby’s gonna do a magic trick for you."

"Hubby’s here," he said, blinking.

Tears were already welling in Holly’s eyes, but because of his words, she couldn’t help but laugh. She turned and buried her face in his chest. "Your wifey is here."

Mortir chuckled and reached out to pat her head. "I see you. Worthy of the title ’Invincible Little Fairy of the Universe’."

Pantheon silently turned his head back around. Chase Hawkins gazed out the window. See no evil. PDA rejected.

The afternoon was a double period of math. After the math teacher finished going over all the problems, he left them with a "cruel and unusual" parting shot: "I’ll be collecting the notes from these two periods at the end of study hall."

A large number of students let out cries of disbelief. "Huh?"

The math teacher ignored their pained cries, picked up his textbook, and returned to the office. Seeing Gabe Chaucer, who had just returned as well, he said half-jokingly, "Teacher Chaucer, I had to discipline so of your students for you."

"They weren’t paying attention in class, just looking all over the place. I warned them several tis, but they wouldn’t listen, so I told them to turn in their notes at the end of study hall."

Gabe Chaucer had a smile on his face and said readily, "Go right ahead and teach them a lesson. Those kids need it."

He looked as if he wasn’t angry at all.

But as soon as he got to the classroom, his expression changed completely. He slamd an eraser against the blackboard with a stern face. Once the classroom fell silent, he glared at the students. "Got hemorrhoids or sothing? Can’t sit still? Do I need to get so 502 glue and stick your butts to the stools?!"

"Day in and day out, you don’t want to study. What is it, you want to go stand outside in the cold wind? If you like it so much, starting tomorrow morning, I’ll take you all to the athletic field to study. We’ll see if you can quiet down and focus then."

After this torrent of words, he finally left the classroom, his anger seemingly subsided.

The quiet classroom gradually filled with small noises again.

Pantheon turned his head around and said urgently, "Cousin, I’m desperate! Let copy your notes."

Don’t ask why he didn’t borrow from Mortir Quincy. That guy was a freak. He abbreviated everything. What should have been long notes, he always managed to condense into two or three lines.

He’d copied them once and was imdiately caught by the math teacher, who made him copy everything twenty tis as punishnt.

Holly reached into her desk drawer, quickly pulled out her notebook, and handed it to him.

Although Pantheon already knew Holly was using Mortir’s prize notebook, he still couldn’t help but feel jealous holding the notebook awarded for first place in the National Mathematical Olympiad.

He felt so pathetic in that mont.

The prize he’d only ever dread of winning had so easily beco soone else’s notebook.

Comparing himself to others was infuriating.

Holly felt like he was going to eat the notebook. She hesitated, thinking of taking it back, but before she could, Pantheon wailed, "I can’t go on!"

"If you can’t go on, go stand on the balcony."

Gabe Chaucer had, at so point, snuck in through the back door again and was staring at him with a displeased expression.

Pantheon stared at him. "..."

’This ti, I really want to die.’

He turned back around with the "first-place" notebook and obediently began to copy the notes.

Holly felt an unkind urge to laugh. She rested her cheek in her left hand and let out a small smile.

After watching Pantheon for half a minute, Gabe Chaucer turned to Mortir and spoke amiably, "How have your studies been lately?"

"They’re fine." Mortir glanced at his smirking wife, and the corners of his mouth turned up in a smile as well.

"Fine is good." Gabe Chaucer nodded.

The closer it got to the college entrance exams, the more he worried about Mortir, afraid he wouldn’t hold steady.

’Ahem, if I lose an outstanding student, my bid for the ’Outstanding Teacher’ award will be in jeopardy.’

With only about ten minutes left before evening study hall, Gabe Chaucer finally left the classroom for real. Pantheon let out a sigh of relief and patted his chest. "That scared the hell out of ."

"Teacher Chaucer’s back," Chase Hawkins said, trying to startle him.

Pantheon imdiately buried his head like an ostrich.

Chase Hawkins let out a boisterous "HAHA!"

The whole class looked over. Pantheon turned around and cursed at him, "Quincy, fuck your grandpa!"

"My grandpa’s in the dirt. Go for it." Chase Hawkins couldn’t have cared less.

When Holly heard this, she really couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing, her eyes curving into crescents.

Mortir leaned close to her, the corners of his eyes lifting slightly. "Do you want to fuck Mortir?"
