Joan Sawyer nudged him. He just grumbles when he sees his son, but nags incessantly when he’s not around. This father and son pair were cut from the sa cloth.
’It’s like it would kill them to talk.’
Holly Winslow watched them with an amused smile. She was used to the family dynamic. When she was younger, she used to wonder why her father, Wyatt, would never initiate a conversation, and why her grandfather, Walter, would never ask a simple question.
Later, she ca to understand that so forms of love don’t need to be spoken to be felt.
Since Wyatt Winslow had co over, they all had dinner at Walter and Joan’s. Afterward, Holly noticed her grandfather wanted to chat more, so she made the executive decision for them to stay the night.
Mortir Quincy, that man of hers, was a neat freak and had to shower every night; he probably couldn’t sleep otherwise. She rummaged through the closet for several minutes before finally digging out a baggy short-sleeved shirt. For pants, she found a pair of wide-leg capris.
She handed the clothes to Mortir, who was sitting on the edge of the bed. "This is the best I could find. If they don’t fit, you can just go naked." She finished with a wide, toothy grin.
Mortir stood up and held the clothes against his fra. "They’re a bit small, but they’ll do."
’He could have just said that. Why did he have to look at her chest?’ Holly was speechless. "..."
’That man was definitely making a jab at her.’
She decided to fight back, looking him up and down with a dissatisfied expression. "Quincy the Puppy, don’t overestimate your physique. You need a reality check. But don’t you worry, I won’t look down on you for that beanpole body of yours."
"After all, I have to make do with the husband I chose."
Mortir wasn’t annoyed in the slightest, because the truth was the exact opposite. He wrapped an arm around her waist, and with a slight tilt of his head, said, "I’ll let my dear wife get a good feel later. If you still can’t tell by touching, we’ll just have to *do it*."
"Either way, I’ll make sure my wife knows exactly what her husband’s body is like."
Holly: "..."
’Another total defeat.’
Mortir went to take a shower. Feeling lazy, Holly decided to skip her own shower for the night, changed into her pajamas, and sat on the sofa to watch TV with her father and grandparents.
About twenty minutes later, Mortir erged from the bathroom.
The mont Holly saw him, she burst out laughing. The clothes really were too small. The "baggy" short-sleeved shirt looked more like a compression top on him. It wasn’t uncomfortably tight, but the outline of his abs was clearly visible.
The capris now looked like knee-length shorts, exposing the hair on his lower legs.
He didn’t look bad, though. On the contrary, he looked very masculine. It was just a bit of a visual shock.
Seeing Mortir dressed in Holly’s clothes, Joan Sawyer suddenly rembered he didn’t have a change of clothes and quickly offered, "Let get you so of your father-in-law’s clothes."
Holly knew Mortir wouldn’t like that, so she quickly stopped Joan. "It’s okay, Grandma. My clothes fit him just fine."
Mortir calmly nodded. "It’s fine, Grandma."
Then he looked at the pajamas Holly was wearing. "Not showering?"
"Nope. I’ll do it tomorrow," Holly admitted without a hint of sha.
Even Mortir the neat freak didn’t say anything else. He went into the room, slipped on a jacket, and sat down next to Holly. The four of them began to watch TV in comfortable silence.
Walter Winslow was getting on in years. Before long, he had drifted off to sleep on the sofa, his snores even louder than the television.
Joan gave him a light smack. "If you’re going to sleep, go to the bedroom."
Walter, likely wanting to stay and keep them company on the sofa, opened his eyes and denied it. "I wasn’t sleeping. I’m watching TV. Don’t interrupt , it’s just getting to the exciting part."
Not a mont later, he started snoring again.
Joan: "..."
Exasperated, she looked at Wyatt. "Get your father to go to bed. You’re the only one he’ll listen to."
Wyatt nodded, reached over, and patted Walter. "Dad, go sleep in the bedroom."
"Oh."
Walter didn’t argue. He stood up, paused for a mont, then looked at Joan. "Is Dex’s bed made?"
"It is. Didn’t you make it yourself?" Joan said with an amused laugh.
Walter thought for a mont but couldn’t recall whether he’d done it. "I’ll go check again." With that, he walked into Wyatt’s bedroom.
Wyatt pressed his lips together, then stood up and followed him in. "Dad, go to bed. I’ll take care of it."
"You know? If you really knew, you wouldn’t catch colds," Walter grumbled. He felt the mattress to make sure it wouldn’t be cold, then, finally satisfied, returned to his own room to sleep.
Wyatt pursed his lips as he watched his father’s noticeably stooped back.
...
The next morning, Mortir had to leave early for an urgent matter. Andre Quincy had called him in for so kind of eting, likely wanting him to make an appearance at the company before he eventually took over.
Wyatt didn’t go to work, staying with Holly until noon.
On the way ho, they stopped at a market to buy groceries. When Holly reached for her phone to pay, she realized it was gone.
She’d had her phone when they got out of the car, so she must have lost it in the market.
’It’s over. My trusty 2,999-yuan phone has finally retired.’
She rarely used her phone much, which was why it was still in good condition after several years and didn’t lag at all.
Wyatt looked at her. "What’s wrong?"
"Dad, I lost my phone," Holly said, her face falling.
The two of them retraced their steps, but they couldn’t find it. A lost phone is never an easy thing to recover.
Holly was bumd out for a mont, but then she rembered she had two hundred-yuan electronics coupons back at her ho in Branton City. She decided she would just buy a new phone after she got back.
After all, they were heading back this afternoon anyway.
Wyatt, however, took her straight to a shopping mall and told her to pick one out. Holly shook her head. "Dad, I don’t want to buy one now. I have coupons in Branton City that will save two hundred yuan. It’s a better deal."
Wyatt pressed his lips together and said in a low voice, "I have money."
A salesperson enthusiastically pitched this year’s hottest model to Wyatt. It cost fifty percent more than her old phone, but it was from a major brand, had excellent features, and even ca with location tracking.
Holly quickly waved her hand. "I don’t need one that fancy. A model in the one-to-two-thousand-yuan range is fine."
The salesperson smiled. "Miss, this phone will last you four or five years without any issues. It’s a much better value than the cheaper models."
Before Holly could say anything, Wyatt had already taken out his card. "We’ll take the white one," he said. "And a case to go with it—that daisy one."
A phone that cost nearly six thousand yuan felt far too extravagant to Holly. She looked at her father. "Dad, why don’t I just take your phone, and you can use this new one? I barely use my phone, so this would be a waste on ."
Wyatt said in his low voice, "It’s not a waste."
He paused for a mont. "I have money."
A complex emotion filled Holly’s eyes. This was why, despite the terrible hand she’d been dealt in her past life, she had still managed to live a decent life. Half the reason was Wyatt Winslow.
’If it hadn’t been for him, what would have beco of her in that past life?’
"Dad, I’ll transfer the money to you later."
Before Wyatt could answer, she added with a sheepish chuckle, "I’m a working woman now, yet I’m still making my dad pay for things. It’s embarrassing."
Wyatt looked at her. "No need."
’No need to be embarrassed,’ he ant. ’I’m your father.’
Holly got a replacent SIM card and called Mortir to tell him she’d lost her phone. The very next second, a transfer notification for ten thousand yuan popped up.
This one’s on Dad. Don’t be shy, wifey. Just spend it. Dad’s got plenty of cash.
Holly: "..."
She silently accepted the transfer. ’Ahem,’ she thought. ’I’ll just let Mortir settle this debt himself.’
Mortir didn’t get back until three in the afternoon. They stayed for a little while longer before driving off toward Branton City, not arriving ho until after ten o’clock that night.
Holly had already gotten a full round of sleep in the passenger seat. She let out a huge yawn, looked at Mortir in the driver’s seat with sleepy eyes, and wheedled, "Hubby, carry ."
Mortir raised an eyebrow, then leaned over toward her. Holly didn’t understand. "Hm?"
"Kisses and more kisses."
Mortir pointed to both of his cheeks, indicating that this was the "kisses and more kisses" treatnt he required.
