It was no wonder lody Sumrs was shocked. What Yuri Walsh had just said was a lot to take in.
First, Sylvia Lancaster had lost the baby—Flynn Adler’s baby.
Second, Ethan Sutton’s family had suspected the child wasn’t theirs and had gone ahead with a paternity test.
lody Sumrs was montarily baffled.
’First of all,’ she thought, ’even though it’s the apocalypse and resources are scarce, and many pregnant won have lost their babies for all sorts of reasons, Sylvia Lancaster is a pampered socialite. She never had to worry about food or clothes. She had maids and chauffeurs to take care of her every need. So why did she lose her baby too?’
’Besides, Sylvia is young and healthy, with no major health issues. The baby was already five months along, and the pregnancy was stable. Why would she suddenly have a miscarriage?’
’Second, based on what I know about Ethan Sutton, that man is incredibly self-assured.’
’In my past life, I did everything I could to distance myself from Ethan Sutton, but he was always convinced I was obsessed with him.’

lody’s mind was swirling with questions. This had all happened so suddenly; she was completely lost.
As lody wrestled with her thoughts, she noticed Yuri Walsh watching her expectantly. At a loss for words, she could only manage an awkward reply. "It’s a sha about the baby, but what happens to them has nothing to do with anymore."
Yuri paused for a mont at her words, then nodded. He had called out to lody on impulse and, not knowing what else to say, had blurted out the news about Sylvia Lancaster.
Only now did it occur to him that it was probably inappropriate to bring this up with her. lody had always been hostile toward the Lancaster family. ’I was being tactless,’ he thought.
But lody just teased him with a sigh, "I never thought the ever-so-serious Dr. Walsh could be such a gossip."
lody had t Yuri a few tis, and her impression of him had always been that of a quiet, aloof doctor. Even that ti at the hospital when he’d helped her out, Yuri had simply ordered the guards to block Elaine Hughes and Sylvia Lancaster with a calm expression.
Yuri laughed at her comnt. He feigned a helpless sigh and shook his head. "I must be too stuffy in my daily life for Miss Sumrs to have the misunderstanding that I’m a serious person."
lody laughed as well. Co to think of it, Dr. Walsh had helped her out twice now. So, despite wanting to end this awkward conversation quickly, she offered a comforting complint. "Not stuffy. People would call that being cool and aloof, like you’re above the fray of us mortals."
lody was wearing a mask, so Yuri couldn’t see her expression, only the hint of a smile in her eyes as they looked at him through her goggles.
It was dark out, and the light from a distant streetlamp reflected in lody’s eyes, making them seem exceptionally clear and bright.
Gazing into those eyes, Yuri felt sothing stir within him. His heart seed to skip a beat.
Just then, a languid female voice ca from behind them. "Well, well, who do we have here?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Yuri’s brow twitched. He turned to see Zara Walsh standing there holding a paper bag, looking as if she were about to head out.
An unreadable smile played on Zara’s face as she slowly clicked over in her high heels. "Yuri, dear," she began unhurriedly, "what are you two chatting about?"
"Zara!" Yuri hissed in a low, warning tone.
Zara ignored Yuri and turned her attention to lody.
She was wearing very high heels, making her slightly taller than lody. Tilting her head up, she looked down her nose at lody and said in a suggestive tone, "My little brother has been popular since he was a child. He’s often harassed by poor girls from the wrong side of the tracks. Our family is always worried he’ll be lured away by so riffraff."
lody’s expression instantly turned cold. Though Zara’s words seed to co out of nowhere, she understood the insinuation.
Before lody could say a word, Yuri interjected in a low, angry voice, "Zara, that’s enough! I’m the one who called Miss Sumrs over. We were talking about hospital matters."
Seeing the blatant mockery on Zara’s face, lody could clearly feel the hostility in her eyes, though she had no idea where it was coming from.
lody could only classify them as "inexplicably weird" people, just like Sylvia and Simon Lancaster.
Sylvia and Simon were an inexplicably weird brother and sister.
And now Yuri and Zara were an inexplicably weird sister and brother.
lody hated dealing with inexplicably weird people more than anything.
"Oh, is that so?" lody stroked Albus in her arms. eting Zara’s mocking smile, she replied coolly, "I’m always afraid my cat will run off, so I usually keep him on a leash and locked in a cage. Since your family is so worried, maybe you should try locking a person in a cage too."
After saying her piece, lody didn’t give Zara a chance to respond. She just turned to Yuri and said coldly, "I’m leaving."
Then, without waiting to hear what Yuri had to say, she turned, opened her door, and went ho.
It was the first ti in her life Zara had ever been talked back to like that. The mocking smile vanished from her face, and she complained angrily to Yuri, "Look at her! No manners, and such a sharp tongue! You’d better not fall for a brat like that!"
Yuri looked at Zara coldly. "You were the one who was rude first, Zara. You really went too far."
Yuri regretted not stopping Zara’s tirade. ’Great,’ he thought. ’Because Zara had a fit, lody is probably angry with now, too.’
Zara, however, just rolled her eyes at her brother. ’I was just giving that lody girl a little warning not to get any ideas about marrying into a wealthy family or using her body to climb the social ladder. I can’t believe that brat actually dared to talk back to . The audacity!’
Since lody was already gone, Zara could only snort coldly. She looked back at Yuri and said, "Alright, fine. I’m going to et Zane Simmons’s mother. You’re back just in ti. You can drive ."
Yuri replied coldly, "I’m not your chauffeur. Have the driver take you. I have things to do. I’m leaving."
With that, he turned and left.
Zara couldn’t believe her ears. She shouted at Yuri’s retreating back in a flustered rage, "Get back here! I’m your sister!"
But Yuri ignored her and simply drove away.
Watching Yuri’s car disappear, Zara’s brow furrowed. She muttered angrily to herself, "That damn brat... talking back to like that for so poor girl. These pretty girls from poor families really are all little vixens!"
Zara had no choice but to have the driver take her to Paige Walsh’s research institute.
As the car drove on, Zara stewed in her anger. After thinking it over, she sent a ssage to her paternal aunt, Kylie Walsh.
She complained to Kylie that Yuri was being foolish, that he’d taken a liking to a girl from a poor family, and that this girl was sharp-tongued and had no manners whatsoever.
Finally, she asked Kylie to find a way to arrange a blind date for Yuri with a socialite from a suitable family. She wanted to get his marriage settled as soon as possible, which was better than having him coveted by daughters from poor families.
After sending the ssage, Zara sighed. She was terrified that her brother would actually bring ho a girl like lody Sumrs. ’A mismatch in social status like that can’t lead to anything good. I would never, ever accept a girl like that as my sister-in-law!’
