Capítulo 1987: Chapter 156: The World Is Like Ku Hai, You and I Both Struggle to Cross (Part 2)

After Zhuang Country embraced its age of resurgence, Zhuang Gaoxian beca known as the heroic ruler, and Du Ruhui was hailed as the wise Pri Minister. Among them, Huangfu Duanming, who commanded the military, seed to have vanished without a trace, with few actions manifesting his presence.

However, Zhuang Country’s overwhelming defeat of Yong Country and the Zhuang Army’s capture of Suolong Gate were not solely due to Zhuang Gaoxian and Du Ruhui’s contributions. Without a powerful army, even the grandest strategies or the most outstanding tactics would be futile.

Zhuang Gaoxian often said in private, “General Huangfu is my backbone; without him, the sky would fall.”

Although Huangfu Duanming was low-key, his influence in the politics of Zhuang Country never waned. In the military, his position was unshakable.

For years of battles both south and north, he has been the core figure.

After taking Suolong Gate, he personally defended the stronghold, steadfast as an impregnable fortress.

Now, he quietly left Suolong Gate and appeared in Mount Dai County. Leading the army personally northward, his intent was unmistakable.

Zhuang Country’s rulers had expended great effort to remove the thorn of Huang Jinmo, and now, of course, they wanted to reap the fruits.

Compared to Yong Country, their disadvantage was that they could only passively wait for the Mo Family’s experts to take action, which would inevitably be slower.

But their advantage lay in their earlier preparation.

Isn’t it a coincidence?

When the two real-level combat powers of the Mo Family questioned Irredeemable City, Huangfu Duanming happened to be inspecting in Jiujiang.

He didn’t even have ti to report to the Son of Heaven, and imdiately moved the army northward personally, a decisive move by a famous general.

The whinnying horses and clashing armored leaves; the sounds of the battlefield always provided a unique solace to warriors.

Riding his horse, Huangfu Duanming silently contemplated the Son of Heaven’s strategy this ti.

When Zhuang Gaoxian was still in the Divine Arrival Realm, he hid in the deep palace under the guise of recovering from injuries, staying hidden for years. At that ti, Yong Country, demarcated by the Qi Chang Mountain Range, unexpectedly failed to notice, and neither did anyone in the court.

To deceive the world for so many years, he naturally had his unique reliance.

Now achieving Dongzhen, it was different.

How did he manage to deceive the Bone Demon God and precisely seize the Bone True Dan at the last mont?

Why was he confident in publicly judging Jiang Wang at Jade Capital Mountain, providing ironclad evidence of communicating with demons?

Why was he confident in framing Huang Jinmo, ensuring that no one could uncover the truth for a while?

Huangfu Duanming naturally knew the answers.

But even knowing the answers, unease was unavoidable.

The Son of Heaven’s sches were too risky and ultimately not the dignified path.

But then again…

Mighty Qin dominated the Western Territory, Yong Country gained support from the Mo Family, and the greatest interests in Jade Capital Mountain were in Jing Country, not allowing much focus on Zhuang Country. Zhuang Country’s rulers themselves did not want to be too deeply influenced by Jade Capital Mountain…

In such a Western Territory situation, if they didn’t take risks, what else could they do?

The Son of Heaven achieved Dongzhen, defeated Yong and secured the gate, taking such risks step by step, the gains were substantial, yet they couldn’t stop now.

One day, when breaking the stalemate and stepping out of the board to beco a genuine player, they might not need to continue in this way…

But how long is the road to that day?

How many more bones will pave the way?

How many more like Duan Li and He Badao are there?

Huangfu Duanming pondered silently, without showing any expression on his face.

A scout riding a horse galloped forward, loudly announcing, “Beigong Jade, Duke of Yong Country, has already taken military control of Irredeemable City, and a large number of Yong troops are blocking the way ahead!”

Yong Country’s Duke was naturally not as influential as the Duke of the Overlord Country, but as the only duke in Yong Country, Beigong Jade’s significance was indeed different.

When the Yong army first entered Irredeemable City, Zhuang Country’s high officials had reached a consensus on this battle. It wasn’t a battle to destroy the country but one to vie for territory and influence.

aning they would fight where necessary but within certain limitations, avoiding full-scale war.

In the past, if Zhuang Country wanted more support from Jade Capital Mountain, they had to accept more restrictions from the Taoist Sect. Benefits and constraints were always balanced.

But it’s different now.

The Mo Gate arranged their plans in the Official Way, choosing such a place as Yong Country.

If the Taoist Sect wanted to impose restrictions, they had no choice but Zhuang Country.

To curb Mo Gate’s arrangents along the Official Way, and to enhance control over Zhuang Country, Jade Capital Mountain must weigh and make decisions. And this is the room for maneuvering among Zhuang Country’s high officials…

“The old dog arrives quickly.” Huangfu Duanming buried all thoughts deeply and pointed north with his whip, his spirit soaring, “Let’s go et him!”

“Have you seen a person?”

Outside the city gate, a ragged, dirty-faced man was pulling people around, asking questions.

His tattered coat must have once been vibrant, but now it was a dull red.

Judging by his braided hair, he must have been sowhat dashing once, but now it was oily and dirty, like it had been glued together.

At this mont, Irredeemable City had long been under military control.

Any Golden Life rules, all forms of freedom, had beco history.

The only thing that mattered here was the law of the Yong army.

Two rows of armored Yong soldiers guarded the city gate, emanating a chilling aura.

“Get lost!” one of the soldiers impatiently shouted.

But the man only asked, “Have you seen?”

He gestured with his hands, “This short, this thin, very rich, a young lady, lots of toys.”

He asked, “Have you seen her?”

“Haven’t seen, haven’t seen, move along already, before you get yourself killed for nothing.” Another soldier made a shooing gesture.

The man huddled his head and walked aside, muttering, “If you see her, chase her away, don’t let her play here.”

“Who is this?” On the tower above the city gate, a young general with two swords at his waist asked, “I see he has so cultivation in him, how did he end up like this?”

“Lord Beigong, this man is reportedly the forr Sin Guard Commander here, nad Lian Heng.” The Personal Guard Commander beside him replied, “When the young lady played around with the Reversed Five Elents Tower, he took a bag of Pri Stones and stood watch. After the True Man from Tiangong descended, he fainted on the spot. Jiang Wang picked him up and handed him over to the other Sin Guards. Those Sin Guards hoped he’d awaken to take charge, but by the ti he ca to, learning that Zhu Weiwo’s life was uncertain, Huang Jinmo had been captured for questioning, and Irredeemable City was in ruins… he went mad instantly.”

“What about those Sin Guards?” Beigong Ke asked.

“So have already been incorporated, others are still hiding in the wilds, but their hearts have scattered long ago.” The Personal Guard Commander looked at the mad Lian Heng below the tower, “Otherwise, he wouldn’t be wandering here alone. No one cared about this place before, these Sin Guards were more influential than anything, heh heh, he had his days.”

It’s truly shocking that a Transcendent Cultivator, once the Sin Guard Commander of Irredeemable City, would fall to this.

But Beigong Ke could sowhat understand the reason behind Lian Heng’s madness.

Lian Heng simply felt that he handed the Mo Family girl the opportunity to transmit the real person over, that it was his negligence as the Sin Guard Commander that missed the City Lord’s chance to escape. It was Lian Heng’s greed that invited trouble.

Already severely wounded, physically and ntally fragile, unable to bear such a shock, his sanity directly collapsed.

The harshest reality was that the Mo Family intended to capture Huang Jinmo; no matter how perfectly Huang Jinmo responded, it would’ve been futile. For soone like Lian Heng, no matter what he did, he wasn’t even in a position to respond. Even if he had flourished once, even if he had been flamboyant once…when the mountains fell, people were like drifting dust.

In the grand ga of important figures, the sound of a chess piece landing on the board buried countless cries of anguish.

Beigong Ke himself might find it equally hard to escape.

At this mont, commotion arose below the city gate tower.

“Refuse to get lost, do you?” The first impatient soldier drew his sword and moved towards the mad Lian Heng, “You’re yelling, yelling, yelling, annoying the hell out of !”

Lian Heng, oblivious, kept shouting, “Don’t let her play here, this is our ho, my ho!”

“Save him and find a place for treatnt.” Beigong Ke casually instructed,

“My lord, a great battle is imminent, and the brothers have many tasks to handle.” The Personal Guard Commander grudgingly said, “He’s already gone mad…”

“Do it.” Beigong Ke only said this much before heading to the other side, continuing to inspect the city defenses.

The Personal Guard Commander had no choice but to leap down from the tower, enduring Lian Heng’s mad ramblings—

“Chase her away, chase her away, chase her away!”
