Chapter 28 — The Leviathan’s Maw

The violet plasma blade sliced through the thick, sulfurous steam as Kael descended. The full weight of his integrated fra, accelerated by a precise, low-altitude thruster burst, drove him straight onto the blind Leviathan’s head.

The impact was cataclysmic. The creature's chitinous skull plating cracked under the sheer kinetic force, and a geyser of pale, boiling ichor sprayed into the black water.

[Target structural integrity compromised: 14% damage inflicted.]

[Warning: Hostile organism is executing a high-velocity roll sequence.]

The beast let out a low, sub-audible shriek that vibrated the iron hulls of the trailing barges. Thrashing violently, it threw its massive torso sideways, attempting to dislodge Kael into the pitch-black, boiling currents of the Stygian Sea.

Kael’s hands transford. The matte-black scales along his gauntlets peeled back, driving raw, jagged anchor-filants deep into the creature’s translucent flesh. He locked himself to the beast's spine as it plunged backward into the lake, dragging him beneath the surface.

The world went instantly dark, replaced by a churning vortex of black water, boiling steam bubbles, and the brilliant, blinding glow of the Leviathan’s internal plasma sacs.

[Subrsion detected. Initiating aquatic combat paraters.]

[Ambient external temperature: 92°C. Internal core cooling rerouted through aquatic intake grids.]

[Oxygen reserves: Not required. Neural network sustained by V.I.P.E.R. core.]

Beneath the waves, the Leviathan had the absolute advantage. It twisted through the currents with terrifying agility, slamming its own back against the jagged, subrged obsidian spires of the lake bed to crush the parasite clinging to its spine.

Each collision echoed through Kael’s frawork like a hamr on an anvil.

[Kinetic impact detected: 8% shield degradation.]

[Siphon efficiency reduced due to liquid dium. Recalibrating...]

“It’s protecting the core,” Kael’s processed logic deduced. Through the murky depths, his crimson HUD highlighted the pulsing, pressurized plasma sacs running along the beast's spine. They weren't just power sources; they were the creature's primary bio-weapon, preparing to vent a superheated thermal blast directly into the water.

Kael dragged himself forward along the thrashing carapace, his anchor-filants tearing through flesh and cartilage. He reached the base of the primary plasma sac—a glowing, translucent bulb of volatile organic energy.

[Warning: Volatile bio-matter detected. Proximity execution carries high risk of localized thermal backflash.]

"Execute anyway," Kael commanded.

He deactivated the plasma blade. His right gauntlet shifted, hardening into a heavy, hollow kinetic spike. With the slow, unyielding force of a hydraulic press, Kael drove the spike straight into the center of the glowing sac.

The reaction was instantaneous. The unrefined organic plasma didn't just bleed; it ignited.

A blinding, underwater explosion of violet and orange fire ripped through the dark currents. The concussive shockwave blew the Leviathan’s upper torso completely apart, sending massive fragnts of scorched chitin and pale flesh spiraling into the abyss.

The force of the detonation launched Kael upward like a surface-to-air missile. He broke the plane of the Stygian Sea in a spectacular plu of boiling water and white steam, his thrusters firing at maximum capacity to stabilize his trajectory before he could crash back into the depths.

He descended heavily, landing back onto the iron deck of the lead barge with a thunderous crash that made the entire vessel rock precariously.

[Core Reserves: 71%]

[External chassis temperature: 180°C. Comncing imdiate thermal venting.]

Thick, white clouds of superheated steam hissed loudly from the seams of Kael's armor as the cooling matrices fought down the heat. He stood perfectly still on the prow, his crimson visor cutting through the fog, looking out over the now-placid, black water.

Mira scrambled to the edge of the deck, her rifle lowered, her face pale as she looked at the scorched, white-hot plating of his armor. Beyond the lead barge, the surface of the lake was littered with floating, smoking chunks of the beast.

The refugees on the trailing vessels looked on in a stunned, breathless silence. They hadn't just witnessed a fight; they had witnessed an execution.

Mira looked up at the unblinking crimson eyes of the suit. "Kael... you almost blew yourself up with it."

"The tactical percentage favored the strike," Kael replied, his dual-tone voice completely level, showing no sign of adrenaline or fatigue. He turned away from her, his gaze locking onto a faint, yellow light flickering through the distant steam clouds ahead.

[Optics update: Ancient geothermal extraction vents identified.]

[Distance: 400 ters. Shoreline confird.]

"We have reached the opposite shore," Kael announced to the column. "Prepare to disembark. Arc 2 has only just begun."
