Chapter 32 — The Overseer

The erald pulse from the central server matrix cast long, distorted shadows across the massive extraction hub. The clicking from the ceiling grew into a deafening, tallic roar as hundreds of crab-like maintenance drones scrambled down the titanium support columns, their multi-jointed legs scraping against the rusted tal plates.

[Tactical Update: 342 automated drones identified.]

[Chassis composition: High-density industrial alloy.]

[Weapon profiles: Plasma torches, structural shears.]

[Core Reserves: 72%]

"Kael, we're completely boxed in!" Mira shouted, her back pressed against the tal railing of the catwalk as she opened fire. Her pulse rifle spat bright blue energy bolts into the approaching swarm, detonating the lead drones in a shower of sparks and pressurized hydraulic fluid, but three more took the place of every one she destroyed.

"Stay behind ," Kael commanded, his voice dropping into a deep, vibrating hum.

[Initiating offensive overclock sequence.]

[Rerouting thermal dispersion networks to gauntlet capacitors.]

[Core Reserves: 72% -> 65%]

The matte-black scales along Kael's forearms split open, venting high-pressure white steam as a pair of jagged, heavy-duty plasma blades erupted from his wrists. The blades didn't just glow; they hissed with a violent, unstable violet energy that superheated the stagnant air around him.

The first wave of drones leapt from the pillars, their chanical shears snapping aggressively at his visor.

Kael moved with a fluid, predatory speed that bypassed the limitations of human reflexes. He spun through the center of the catwalk, his twin plasma blades carving a wide, lethal arc through the air. The superheated violet edges sliced through the industrial alloy chassis of the drones like heated wire through wax, severing limbs, power cores, and optic lenses in a single continuous movent.

[Kinetic impacts absorbed: 4% Core Energy.]

[Core Reserves: 69%]

A heavy drone slamd into his shoulder plating from above, its plasma torch flaring bright orange as it attempted to burn through his neck seals. Kael didn't even flinch. He reached up, his left gauntlet closing around the drone's primary drive shaft, and squeezed. The industrial tal crumpled under his grip, and he used the ruined machine as a makeshift blunt weapon, smashing it into three other drones scrambling up the catwalk railing.

"The server matrix is shielding itself!" Mira called out between rifle bursts. She pointed toward the glowing green core. A thick, interlocking wall of heavy steel panels had slid into place around the primary server racks, completely insulating the main processor from external fire. "We can't destroy the mainfra from here, Kael! The terminal controls are down on the lower sub-floor, right beneath the turbine blades!"

Kael’s crimson visor locked onto the steel shield blocking the core, then tracked downward to the dark abyss beneath the catwalk where the massive, dust-choked geothermal turbines hung.

[Structural Analysis: Mainfra defense firewalls tied to auxiliary power lines beneath the platform.]

[Recomndation: Severe the primary conduits.]

"We drop," Kael said flatly.

Before Mira could protest, Kael grabbed her by the waist with his left arm, anchoring her tightly against his heavy chassis. His twin plasma blades deactivated with a sharp hiss, and he vaulted cleanly over the shattered catwalk railing, plunging down into the absolute dark of the turbine sub-floor.
