Chapter 409: [Terror of the Dead God] [17] [Turn]

‘Why is it attacking now!?’

Elijah thought to himself as he helped the people of the city evacuate from the place.

From what he had heard from Himl, the Dead God was supposed to attack after three more days.

Yet….

His gaze shifted as he looked through the heavy rain towards the mass of flesh.

Even from afar he could see Himl’s distinct purple strike.

‘I should help him.’

Elijah thought but imdiately bit his lips.

Much to his disappointnt, he was aware of his own strength.

If he moved recklessly all he would be is nothing but a burden.

‘Let’s focus on evacuating them.’

He thought as he jumped down the building.

Screams echoed from the alleys, from broken windows, from beneath crumbled rooftops.

He flew low above the cracked streets, his wings soaked and heavy, eyes darting from one group of civilians to the next.

“Keep moving!” he shouted, pushing debris off a trapped woman.

“Get to the church—NOW!”

“Elijah!”

A sudden voice made him halt as he floated in the air.

Through the mist and rubble, he spotted the short, blonde-haired elf sprinting toward him, a small group of knights trailing behind.

“Wilhelm?” Elijah blinked. “What are you doing here?! Himl told you to stay back!”

“Shut up!” Wilhelm barked, glaring at him. “Don’t act like that. I haven’t raised you to be like that.”

Elijah drew in a deep breath as he floated back down, standing right in front of him.

“Help in the evacuation,” he said. “Don’t try to fight—.”

“I will help Himl,” Wilhelm said, walking past him. “You go evacuate—.”

Elijah placed his hand on his shoulder. “I can’t let you do that.”

“…..”

Wilhelm guiltily looked at his hand then at him.

A sudden tension began to form in between them as they both looked at each other.

Just as Wilhelm was about to speak, the ground beneath them shook.

A pulse that rippled outward like a heartbeat made them almost lose their balance.

From the gaps of the stone ca more of it.

The Flesh.

Elijah’s jaw tightened.

It oozed out like lted wax, dragging itself with arms that didn’t look fully ford.

Faces bulged and sank into the surface, mouths silently gasping.

They slowly started to take a form of sothing that resembled the Dead God.

A child scread.

Elijah didn’t hesitate to move towards the thing.

Traditional tattoos began to form over his body and he was between the creature and the girl, his wings forming a barrier.

He thrust his arm out, palm glowing with divinity.

“SREECHHH!!”

A column of concentrated divinity erupted from the sky, piercing the abomination and searing it to the bone or what passed for it.

Screaming, the monster dissolved into nothingness.

Elijah looked back at Wilhelm who was helping a child move out.

But….

As he looked around, Elijah noticed sothing else.

‘…No way.’

His eyes widened as he noticed the ground shake once again.

Hundreds of those creatures began to crawl out of the ground.

“Get out of here!”

Aimar yelled, pushing the civilians out of the area that was close to the centre.

Thunder cracked the sky as Aimar looked back at Himl fighting against the mass of flesh.

“Move!” he yelled again, waving his arms toward the fleeing civilians.

The ground trembled under his feet—no, not trembled… throbbed.

Aimar’s breath caught as he turned his head toward the source.

The black ooze poured like a flood through the alleys, dragging anything with it.

Aimar quickly took out his spear as he positioned himself between the civilians and the creature.

‘How do I even defeat that thing?’

He wondered, wincing as he couldn’t think of a way to stop them.

Taking in a deep breath, he ford a magic circle of fire.

Crimson flas engulfed the creature and it let out a scream that echoed in the place.

But no matter how much he tried, more began to move towards him.

‘Fuck! Fuck!’

Aimar began to panic as he looked behind him.

Those civilians were still nowhere close to the out of the impact range.

‘Ugh, fuck it.’

Taking in a deep breath, he used the dragon ring.

The side of his neck turned into a gill as they burst out a smoke.

He quickly ran closer to the mass of flesh as the smoke began to cover it.

A small circle of mana also ford in his hand.

Just as he reached inches away from them,

He hardened his skin with scales before igniting the fire.

BOOOM!!!

The smoke sparked and turned into a explosion close to the mass of flesh.

The flesh burst, parts of it thrown away slamming back on the ground.

“Haah!!”

Aimar drew in a deep breath as he felt heat scorching his body.

The scales did lessen the damage but it was still done nonetheless.

Taking in deep breaths, he tried to calm himself down.

Just as he began to walk away, he felt sothing.

Aimar looked around, his instinct screaming that sothing was wrong.

‘What was tha—.’

The smoke cleared up from his side as soone rushed towards him.

Aimar could barely react as he tried to turn.

His gaze widened as he noticed her.

A girl with pale grey eyes staring at him, her face covered by a mask.

‘Who—?’

The girl hit him with her body, sending them both flying.

A portal erged on the line of their trajectory.

Aimar quickly tried to move but the portal engulfed both of them completely.

With a light spark.

The portal vanished, leaving nothing behind.

***

“What’s happening, Azariah?”

A voice rang in his head, making him tremble in response.

“…El?”

Himl looked around the place as if he had heard wrong.

The rain stopped mid-fall.

Each drop hung suspended in the air like glass beads, frozen in ti.

The howling of the storm, the screams of civilians, even the throbbing beat of the grotesque abomination—all fell into silence.

It wasn’t “Rejection of Ti.”

And there was only one who could do sothing like this.

Himl let out a trembling breath as he felt a cluster of white erging from his body.

The cluster soon turned into an eternally grateful man with long pristine white hair.

The man looked abnormally handso while he wore a long white robe.

His closed eyes t with Himl’s.

El smiled. “It’s been a while.”

Himl could openly smile back as no words ca out of his mouth.

“You’ve grown,” he said gently. “But still reckless as ever.”

Himl’s throat tightened as he finally found his voice.

“I…It’s been a while,” he said. “Are you alright now?”

“Not really,” El replied, brushing a pale hand through the suspended raindrops. “But I am strong enough to keep myself alive.”

El turned to look at the mass of flesh that remained suspended without moving.

“…What is this?” El mumbled, glancing back at Himl.

“The Dead God,” Himl replied, composing himself. “The Dark Trinity tried to revive him—.”

“It’s not a God,” El interrupted his words. “It’s just a human burdened with the instinct of a God.”

“….What?”

El’s gaze didn’t waver from the grotesque mass frozen mid-motion.

“The thing in front of you,” he said softly, “was once a child. A human child.”

“I know that but I thought the Dead God took over his body.”

“No,” El mumbled, narrowing his eyes. “The human took over the God.”

“…How is that possible?”

“It’s not possible,” El mumbled as he narrowed his eyes at the flesh. “Unless soone of extre power did it.”

[]

‘What does that an—?’

[]

“El,” Himl said with a sigh. “Inna wants to—.”

“Innana is with you?” El said, his eyes flickering with surprise.

“….Yeah,” Himl mumbled. “She says she can sense the oldest from the Dead God.”

El’s expression hardened as his eyes moved back towards the mass of flesh.

He fully turned towards the thing.

His voice dropped to a whisper. “He wasn’t supposed to be here.”

Himl frowned. “Who?”

“Mind if I take over from here?” El said, looking back at him. “It’s not sothing you can take care of.”

Himl’s gaze flickered back at the Dead God where he could see the broken cocoon of Arianell.

El noticed that as well as he moved his hand and she was moved out of the flesh prison.

He made Himl grab the girl before he stretched his body.

“Try finding the core of this thing,” he said, looking back at him. “It should be close by.”

Himl nodded without saying anything else.

El looked back at the mass of flesh.

“Co forth.”

He said and the grey light that stopped the place began to retract.

“My kingdom.”

Just as his words ended,

The world resud and ti returned to its normal nature.

The only thing that was missing was the Dead God himself.

In the endless space of white that stretched beyond human comprehension.

A white-haired man floated in the sky.

Below him was a mass of flesh that was the size of a building, withering and trying to find its way out.

El drew in a deep breath and opened his eyes.

His divinity began to fill the place and the mass of flesh flinched visibly.

“I know you are there inside it and can sense my divinity.”

El said, his voice booming in the place.

“Co out.”

The mass of flesh stopped moving and from it El saw a single soul.

The soul that was consud in an instant by a tiny piece of a different soul.

The flesh began to collapse into themselves and a figure began to form.

In a few monts the building-sized flesh shrunk to the size of a human.

An otherworldly handso man that rivaled his own face.

El recognized him imdiately as their eyes t.

“Well, well.”

Satan said, smiling brightly at El.

“If it isn’t the heaven’s traitor.”
