After that whole incident with those four idiots, I didn’t waste any more ti on the street. I imdiately started searching around the city for a place to stay and eventually found my way into a decent-looking inn that had a large stable and even allowed guests to bring their animals inside the rooms with them.
The price for a stay there was only 10 silvers a day, which covered the room and even included feeding Bong and giving so treats to Onyx. While I did still have to pay extra for my own daily als— that would really only be another silver coin or two added to the bill.
’Also, money is not really a problem for anyway, so whatever.’
Anyway, after settling Bong into the stable and making sure he was fed— I went back into the inn and headed up to the room I had rented, bringing Onyx along with .
-Arf!
Onyx imdiately jumped up onto the bed and started playing around on his own, chasing his tail like a complete idiot... he looks really cute doing it, though.
I took a mont to look around the room; it honestly had everything I could possibly need. It had a comfortable bed, its own private bathroom, a wooden cabinet where I could store my clothes and items, and a study table with a chair where I could sit down to eat.
As long as those basic things checked out, I was perfectly satisfied with the place.
’I have a pretty big space here as well, so training with my sword will be much easier.’
I thought.
I started unpacking all of my stuff and storing them away in the cabinet, since I would likely be staying in this city for a while. At the very least, I’d be here for a few days or maybe even a few weeks.
After I was finally done with all the chores, I went back down to the main floor of the inn to fetch a bucket of water— I really wanted to take a bath, considering it had been days since the last ti I actually cleaned myself.
Traveling in a dieval world like this is really not convenient at all.
It didn’t take very long to get the water I needed, and once I got back to the room, I could see that Onyx was already resting. He just looked at with a lazy side-eye as he lay down on the bed when I walked back in.
I gave him a quick pet before walking straight into the bathroom, and once I was in there— I imdiately started cleaning the gri off myself.
... ... ...
After I finished taking a bath, I changed into a nice set of clean clothes, and then I imdiately started training with my sword again.
By this ti, Onyx was already fast asleep— it was late and the moon was high in the sky after all.
SWOOSH!
I swung my sword through the air, and the movent felt much smoother now than it ever had before.
’Tomorrow, I’ll be heading straight to the dungeon.’
I thought.
That place will definitely be full of traps and dangerous monsters based on everything Elianna told during our trip— so bringing Onyx along is going to be a total no-go. The innkeeper did tell earlier that he would make sure to feed Bong and Onyx on ti, so I can feel safe leaving them in his care.
It also looks like the man is already quite fond of Onyx, so I think I’ll trust him for tomorrow.
FWOOSH~
Drowning out my distracting thoughts with repetitive training, I swung my sword again and again— I kept imagining Gibson and the other knights as my opponents and responding to their ghost movents like the fight was actually real.
And just like that... as usual— I ended up training through the entire night.
*****
The next morning arrived—
"Please take good care of him while I’m gone."
I said that as I carefully handed Onyx over to the innkeeper.
"Haha, don’t you worry about a thing, this little guy will be perfectly safe in my care!"
The innkeeper responded with a lot of energy as he took Onyx into his arms. He looked like a guy who was probably in his late fifties, with a few noticeable gray hairs, but his hair and beard were both well-kept and tidy.
I learned earlier that his na was Edgar, and he was the actual owner of this inn.
"Don’t worry about your horse either— I already made sure to feed him earlier this morning."
Edgar stated with a warm smile on his face while I was montarily stuck in my own thoughts. I was actually a bit surprised by that; the sun was barely even up yet... but he had already taken care of Bong and probably all the other horses in the stable too.
As I was standing there in front of him, I watched as he started feeding Onyx a small piece of at.
-Arf!
And it was clear that Onyx was really enjoying the treat.
"You really like animals, huh?"
I asked.
Edgar looked up at and gave a slow nod—
"Animals are such innocent and beautiful creatures, so being kind to them is not hard at all, isn’t it?"
Then he said that.
"True."
I simply said with a small smile.
"Take this."
Fwish~
Then I reached into my pouch and threw a single gold coin at him.
"H-Huh...?"
He caught the coin out of the air, but he looked completely surprised when he saw exactly what it was. Before he could even say a word of protest—
"It’s just a tip for taking good care of Onyx and Bong. I’ll be back later tonight."
I said that, and imdiately, I turned around and started walking away.
I could hear Edgar shouting his thanks to as I left the inn, so I just waved my hand in the air behind to casually dismiss it.
*****
The inn I was staying at wasn’t very far away from the center of the city, so after just a short while of walking— TAP!
I finally arrived right in front of the destination.
The entrance was just a huge stone arc with two mysterious-looking doors that were currently swung wide open; inside, I could see a set of stairs that headed straight downward... it looked incredibly dark in there as well.
’A labyrinth, huh... It’ll probably be pretty similar to the cave that I was trapped in before.’
There was a line of people waiting to enter, but it was relatively short because it was still so early in the day. I’d bet that Elianna and the others are already sowhere deep inside by now.
In tis like this, I actually miss the special privileges that they have— the ones I got to be a part of during our travels together.
I waited for a few minutes in the line— and then soon enough; I was standing right at the front. There were three guards stationed there; two were standing at the entrance itself, while the third one was talking to the people who wanted to go in.
"What’s your na?"
The guard in front of asked.
"Verc."
I simply answered.
"Sign your na right here. This paper says that you won’t hold the city accountable for anything that happens to you inside the dungeon, whether it’s an accident or death because you entered on your own accord."
The guard told in a lazy voice as he handed a form and a quill. I signed the paper without any hesitation.
"Okay, you’re clear to enter."
The guard told after I handed the form back to him, and he looked at like I was already a lost cause. I just ignored his look, and imdiately—
’Here goes nothing.’
TAP-
I stepped forward and entered the dungeon.
