Ning woke up later in the morning. The funeral had gone deeper into the night than he imagined, so was tired and thus slept for longer.
He washed up with the water that was brought over from the river far away and looked around to see only a few people who were still behind.
"Where are the soldiers?" he asked Shara who was by the fire.
"Romus took most of the soldiers to go clean off the armor and clothes they looted after the battle. Matthew… I think he went sowhere in that direction. I don't know where he went."
"Where's Mari?" he asked.
"Still sleeping," Shara said. "I think sleeping the whole day yesterday kept her awake late into the night."
Ning nodded. He looked at his spear that was inside the large carriage and saw the golden spear that was outside of it.
"Did you practice this morning?" Ning asked.
Shara nodded. "I had the ti, so I did," she said.
"Did you figure out what power it has yet?" Ning asked.
Shara shook her head. "I tried to, but it does nothing I can figure out," she said.
Ning got up. "Let go test it."
He took the golden spear and walked out of the forest into the grassland. He twirled the spear in his hands, feeling its weight as he did so. It was quite nicely balanced.
Ning looked at the blade of the spear and frowned a little. There was little distinction now of where the spear shaft ended and where the tip started. It was all smooth until it wasn't.
The blade was the sa material as the shaft, with the sa intricate details all throughout it.
'Any good spearman can tell when the side had the edge with just a feeling, so it shouldn't matter,' he thought.
He was about to begin trying to use the spear when he was distracted by soone.
"Ning!" Matthew called out to him.
Ning paused for a mont and looked around to see Matthew coming toward him. "Hey, what's up?" he asked.
"Can you help with sothing?" Matthew asked.
"Sure, what do you want?" Ning asked, curious.
"I'm trying to figure out what my power is, and I think that my power has sothing to do with it being used on soone else. Would you mind if I tested my powers on you?"
Ning paused for a mont. "You have a new power?" he asked, surprised. "I thought those two arms were your new power."
"Oh no, these are things I got from Perpetual Awakening," Matthew said. "It took all of my energy to awaken these, so since I was empty after that, I have new powers."
"How did you get more energy? From what you did before the funeral?" Ning asked.
"No, from helping you," the man said. "That spirit that was taking over you was… well, frankly I've never seen sothing so strong. It must've hated you quite a bit."
Ning grimaced a little. "I did kill him quite violently, so it's understandable," he said.
"Yeah, whatever. Help find out my power," Matthew said.
Ning hesitated a little. "Do you really want to use your unknown powers… on ?" he asked.
"I want to find out what it is," the man said.
"Can't you use it on one of the undead after they return?" Ning asked.
"Well… yeah, you're probably right," the man said and sighed. "What are you trying to do? Do you have a new power too?"
"No, I'm trying to check what power this spear has," Ning said. "Shara tried to use it, but couldn't figure out what it does."
"Well, for Spirit Artifacts, most powers usually have sothing to do with what the object is. Swords are usually for cutting, lanterns hold fire, pens write, and as you saw, the bow shoots an arrow," Matthew said.
"So, this spear must do sothing that a spear does too," Ning said. He moved the spear around, trying to use it. He stabbed forward, wondering if it was going to shoot out sothing, but it didn't.
"Well, you should try everything one can do with a spear. At the point where it will accept your energy, you will feel it asking for it," Matthew said. "At least, that is how it was explained to . Never actually did get to use one before."
Ning thought for a bit and nodded. "Stand back," he said and imagined energy before him that he was fighting with another spear.
A shadow fight.
Ning dodged the fight blow and stabbed the enemy. The enemy blocked and swung its base at him. Ning held the spear to the side, parrying it. He pushed the spear away and spun with the sa montum to land a blow on the enemy, but the enemy dodged, stabbing him a mont later.
Ning moved his neck aside, dodging the stab at the last minute. He then used a flurry of attacks, both offensive and defensive, as he fought this shadow enemy of his.
None worked, but he continued. He dodged another one of the attacks but had to move back for it. He imagined his enemy moving away as well. On instinct, he reversed the grip on his spear and threw it.
The mont he threw it, he realized sothing.
"That was it!" he said, quickly running over to get the spear. "I got it."
Matthew looked excited. "Did you figure out the power?" he asked.
"No, but I know how to activate it," Ning said. He reverse-gripped the spear and threw it toward the empty direction once again.
As he did, he activated its power. The spear flew normally, landing far away in the distance.
Ning had activated its power, so it was being used. Only, he wasn't sure what the power exactly was. 'I activated it, and now I need to trigger it,' he thought.
With a simple ntal command, he triggered the power.
The spear in the distance suddenly disappeared, appearing right back in Ning's palm.
Ning looked at the spear in shock, along with Matthew.
"It teleports?"
