It had been clear that the man would refuse to get handcuffed. Before Larissa could get close, he put up his hands, both palms facing toward her. "Don’t get closer, or I will attack."

Larissa froze, her eyes narrowing. "You’re not helping your case, sir Waveshot. Please co quietly or else—"

"I’m not coming," the man said. "You have no proof to arrest ."

"But we do," Ning said as he brought out his phone. "Here."

He pulled up a picture of a young child, no more than 12 years old. "This is you, right?" he asked.

The hero saw the picture and his face fell. "Where did you get that?" he asked.

"Nowhere really. Just asked our tech lady to de-age you to see what you would look like," Ning said. "It must’ve been a close enough copy because one of the people that worked for your father recognized you."

"His father?" Larissa asked.

"That’s right," Ning said. "His father, the godfather of the Gallows, Trunno Gallow."

Larissa’s eyes slowly widened as she understood the implications of what Ning had just said. "He... is the son of the mob boss?"

"That’s what Rainar told ," Ning said. "He recognized him from the picture."

"But wait, how’s that possible?" Larissa asked. "He’s a human. Are you saying he was adopted?"

"Maybe," Ning said. "But if we check his DNA, we will surely find that he is the actual son. Isn’t that right?"

Waveshot’s eyes narrowed. "I see. You’re smart," he said.

Ning smiled. "rely lucky."

"Lucky or smart, you are also proud. You thought you had , so you ca to get . But you didn’t call first. You didn’t ssage ."

Ning’s eyes narrowed.

"So?"

"So, here’s what I see happened in the past couple of minutes. I co ho and there are two suspicious people standing before my door. I think they’re here to kill , so I kill them first."

Ning smiled. "But you don’t kill people, do you?" he asked. "If you did, you wouldn’t have let the old man live. Not once, but twice. You had every opportunity to kill the old man, but you didn’t. At the very least, you are not a killer. So are you going to kill us?"

The man breathed heavily.

"What the hell are you doing?" Larissa whispered. "You’re trying to get us killed."

"Don’t worry, he can’t kill us."

The man seed more troubled than ever before. His palms still faced them, and Ning waited.

"Co with us on your own accord, hero. We can end this now without—"

"NEVER!"

A wave pulsed out of the man’s arm, blasting toward Ning and Larissa. Larissa scread, but Ning stood before her, the only damage to his body being disordered hair.

"Not a good idea, I fear."

The man’s eyes widened in shock as he couldn’t imagine how Ning could possibly still be alive. He pulled up his hand again, sending another blast toward him.

Ning stood where he was, taking the hit. He could feel the force behind the shockwave, enough to blow back tankers. This man was strong.

The man turned, suddenly running in the other direction.

Ning imdiately followed him.

Waveshot first shot down the window before him and then jumped. Halfway in the air, he pointed his palm downward and blasted another wave, propelling him further into the sky.

Ning ran and jumped from the 12th floor. He was halfway in the air when he rembered that he was supposed to have no power. But that was too late. He had to have a power now.

In a split second, he decided what power it was that he wanted. Instantly, his body transford into that of a giant bat and he imdiately flew into the air. His speed was far faster than that of Waveshot, so he arrived by his side in no ti at all.

Ning turned back into a human and fell down toward Waveshot.

Waveshot turned and shot in another direction, changing his pathway again. The mont Ning missed, he turned into a bat again, flying toward Waveshot.

Waveshot threw out blasts of pulses in Ning’s direction, so of which missed and so of which hit. And yet none of them did anything to hinder Ning’s pursuit.

Ning was far too quick for Waveshot in the end and he managed to transform and grab the man with his bat-legs. Waveshot tried to keep shooting at Ning, but Ning’s physical body was not sothing Waveshot could easily destroy.

Ning flew back to the apartnt, over to where Larissa stared at him in awe. He changed back to man and sat atop Waveshot, who could no longer escape.

"The inhibitor!" Ning shouted.

Larissa got out of her stupor and quickly handed over her handcuffs. These were special handcuffs, made to dampen a person’s power. They weren’t capable of inhibiting quirks that ca from being of a certain race, only actual abilities.

Once the handcuffs were on Waveshot, he could no longer use his powers. Finally, Ning got off him.

"Phew! I thought he was going to get away."

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" Larissa asked, her eyes still wide in shock.

"What was what?" Ning asked. "Oh, the bat? Yeah, I can turn into one."

"No, you can’t," she said. "I’ve read your file. You... your..."

"It’s new," Ning said. "Now, can you help ?"

Larissa quickly ran up to Waveshot and hauled him up. She read him his rights and took him down the elevator. Ning quickly took out his handkerchief and placed it around Waveshot’s face as he was taken through the main hallway where a lot of people had gathered due to the commotion.

Jack was among them, watching with a stunned look for a good few seconds before he actually thought to help out.

Even as they took the man away, Larissa could not keep her eyes away from Ning, giving him looks the entire ti that demanded an explanation.

Ning sighed internally, realizing that he would need to co up with sothing plausible that was also in line with how the current world worked.
