Ning showed Blake to the waiting room while he and Larissa entered the chief’s room to explain what had happened.

Ning hid nothing. He told him everything, including the fact that he had killed her as she had beco dangerous. Just looking at her had caused Larissa to fall into such a horrible state, so her death had been warranted.

Except, just because it was warranted didn’t an that she shouldn’t have gone through the proper justice system first.

"Could you have captured her?" the chief asked.

"Maybe," Ning said. "No, I could have. Absolutely, but should I have?"

"We don’t go around killing criminals just because we can. We have a judicial system for the sa reason," the chief said.

Ning paused for a bit. "And how would you have put her on trial?" he asked. "The mont anyone saw her, they would fight tooth and nail to free her. Any cop that laid an eye on her would be smitten by her powers and start shooting at the nearest person. Even soone with no romantic interest at all could not have hidden themselves away from her power."

The chief frowned. "We don’t know that," he said.

"You saw what she did. Over 50 people ca to my house in a frenzy to kill , all because of her powers. And that was before she had evolved her powers too," Ning said. "Afterward, those n would’ve killed each other had it not been for killing her."

The room beca silent for a while, the only sound the slow-moving ceiling fan up top. After what felt like a minute, Ragnar spoke up.

"How did she die?" he asked.

"I punched her," Ning said.

"You... punched her?" the orc asked, his eyes narrowing. "You pumled her to death?"

"I don’t know if thats the word I would use. I only punched her once."

Ragnar blinked for a mont, realizing what Ning was saying. "And where is the body?"

"Gone. I’m pretty sure the body evaporated," Ning said. "You might find so body parts around River Nissa if you search for them though, but that’s highly unlikely."

Their looks of shock were fun to see as neither the detective nor the chief could make head or tails of what Ning was saying. How could one be punched and evaporate at the sa ti?

"Do you have fire powers?" the chief asked.

"No, I just punched her so hard that the air combusted, and her body was blown to smithereens. I’m pretty sure the heat evaporated most of her."

The two still couldn’t make sense of it, but they had to accept it. "So the commotion around River Nissa last night was you?" the chief asked.

Larissa still wasn’t sure what was being talked about. She had not heard about anything else during the night as her one task throughout the night had been to just fall asleep and let the evening be nothing more than a bad dream.

Ragnar took a mont to think. "Alright, I’ll see what I can do. Tell no one else of what happened and we might be able to sweep it under the rug. But about these six people you talked about, any idea who they are or what they are?"

Ning shook his head. "I haven’t the faintest clue. At best, I can tell you the one I killed was nad Talia. But besides that, nothing more."

"How did you get the na?" Larissa asked, prompting Ning to give her a blank look.

"Uhh... you spoke out the na. When she chard you."

Larissa paused. She rembered not a single mont of that. "Did I?" she asked. She was so engrossed in her feelings that she hadn’t rembered anything else.

"So just a na, huh?" Ragnar asked. "And she’s a vampire, so we won’t have the faintest clue in regard to how old she was. That’s quite annoying."

"I’m sure we’ll find more," Ning said. "I won’t lie. I think more will co for soon as they realize this woman failed."

Ragnar frowned. "More will target you. That’s bad," he said.

"It’s fine that it’s ," Ning said. "At least it won’t be anyone else."

Ragnar stared at him for a while. "You’ve changed so much."

Ning froze for a mont, not letting any emotions show up on his face except a simple smile that begged the conversation to move on.

"We should go," Larissa said. "We can search for the woman once Mira is back tomorrow. I need so rest for today."

"Yes, once you’re done with the paperwork, go ho. And sleep in tomorrow. I won’t mind if you even take a few days off, but I would have a greater chance asking the sun to change direction."

Larissa gave a ek smile before walking out.

Ning followed her out and walked over to her desk. He watched her pull out so forms and start writing on them. He stared at her for a while and asked, "You will be fine, right? Those feelings are all gone?"

Larissa nodded. "I’m fine. If you don’t leave soon though, soone won’t be."

Ning giggled. "Alright, that’s enough for ," he said and walked away. He went over to Blake, who sat reading a magazine on the sofa, his phone on the table constantly buzzing with ssages.

"You’re not gonna look those over?" Ning asked.

"They’re just updates about where heroes might be needed," Blake said without taking his eyes off the magazine. "Since I’m your manager, I don’t need to look at them just yet."

He put the magazine down a few seconds later. "Are you done?"

Ning nodded.

Blake put aside the magazine and took his phone. He gave a cursory glance to everything there before placing it away.

"Let us leave then," he said. "Is there anywhere you want to go before we head back to the agency?"

"Nope!" Ning said. "I’m going straight to the agency and getting done with my flight training for today. A steamy romance novel awaits my quick return."
