"Does anyone know if the suppression tech is active inside the bank or not?" one of the heroes asked.
As soon as the word left his mouth, gasps rang from around the place as everyone belatedly realized that the bank would’ve likely activated their suppression tech when the group started the hostage.
It would be as simple as flicking a switch underneath the clerk’s desk and anyone with power would beco no different from anyone else in the room.
Ning frowned. Why hadn’t he thought of that?
"We don’t know," the cops answered. "Their system shows offline. They must have soone on the inside that has disconnected the bank’s system. We can’t even tell if their surveillance system is active or not."
Ning frowned. ’This is too much for so regular heroes to handle. What are they trying to do? If our powers are useless, then we are entirely useless. Surely the thing to do isn’t to leave the work to the cops, right?’
He feared that could be a possibility. But even then, he needed to do his work.
Ning looked at the bank for a mont, formulating a plan. The bank was just a single-floor building, so he could get down from the roof. The only issue being that he didn’t know enough about the inside.
An idea struck and he searched around until he saw the tabaxi lady from earlier with the power to see beyond walls. He walked over to her.
"Hey, can you see beyond just one wall?" Ning asked.
The woman turned toward him and slowly nodded. "I can, but I need to be closer."
"Good. We might be able to make this work," he said, and turned toward the cops. "Do you guys have the schematics of the bank? Can you tell where the caras are located or how far away the suppression field extends to?"
One of the cops affird that they had what he was asking for and quickly laid out the blueprint of the bank, showing every location inside, including the vault, as well as the various locations where the caras were pointed.
After seeing it, Ning saw a blindspot on the roof that was just far away from the suppression field.
"Here!" he pointed at the location. "I can get us there. Can you see what’s going on inside better if we’re there?"
The young tabaxi woman saw the location and nodded. Her cat-like eyes shined with an excited look. "How are we getting there?"
"We’re flying there. Do you mind if I carry you?" Ning asked.
The tabaxi woman grabbed him. "Okay, let’s go."
Ning grimaced slightly. "Actually, it will be better if we fly from sowhere else. The terrorists shouldn’t see us coming."
"Oh!" the woman said before letting go of him. "Lead the way."
Ning walked away from the region and transford into a bat where no one else could notice him. The woman stepped a few paces back in surprise, unsure what she was to do.
"Let’s go," Ning said, grabbing her with his leg and flying high into the sky. The woman scread at first but slowly got her senses as she realized Ning wasn’t going to let her fall. They flew in a parabolic arc, coming down on the bank’s roof at an angle that no one else could see.
Ning found the location where the caras wouldn’t catch him and the suppression field wouldn’t reach him either. It was important that the suppression field wasn’t active for the tabaxi woman’s sake. She needed to see more.
She had already seen 35 hostages before and 8 terrorists. He let her use her powers from the roof and look down. The woman’s cat-like eyes turned white for a mont and she trembled a little as though she was pushing a lot into this.
After a mont, fatigue took over her. Ning grabbed her before she fell and laid her to the side, waiting for her to give him more information.
"There are 3 more hostages inside the vault room. One of them seems to be a manager. Two people with guns there. One is holding the hostages, the other is trying to break into the vault."
Ning nodded. "Any more?"
"None. The other rooms are empty. Everyone seems to have been pulled out of the other rooms."
Ning stared at her. "What about the control room? The caras?"
"Nothing," the woman said. "It was empty."
"Are you sure there is no one looking at the caras? What about the terrorists? Maybe they have a wireless device?"
"None," the woman answered. "Each one of them had a gun. I saw no monitor or screen of any sort."
"I see. What about the suppression?" Ning asked.
"I have no way of telling if it is active."
Ning frowned. "Well, one way to tell."
Ning stepped away from where he stood and walked out into the open. As he walked, he waited for the system to pop up. He had set it up in a way where it was to act as if he was a regular person of this world with regular powers.
If a suppression field was active, his bat form would disappear and he would get a ssage.
Since he hadn’t, there was no suppression field.
’No suppression field and no caras,’ Ning thought. ’This might be simpler than I thought.’
He took the woman back to the crowd where more heroes had gathered. The tabaxi gave away more of her information, and the lack of suppression field was happy news to everyone.
Ning wondered how he was going to take these people down without hurting them in the slightest given the fact that they were actors and he couldn’t just knock them out.
Before he could think of an answer, a man ran out from the barricade, screaming as he charged toward the bank.
It didn’t take long for everyone there to realize that the man was trying to ruin the mont for everyone, making the entire situation useless in the end.
Ning wasn’t going to let him. With not a single more thought, he dashed out of the group as well and arrived before the bank.
