The offer was enticing. To be able to work closely with the governnt on a project this important was no different than being first in line to know and maybe even be a part of all the new developnts that ca out of it.
Very few heroes would want to reject such an amazing opportunity.
"I do not require an imdiate answer. You can think it over and let know afterward. There is nothing more to discuss, so why don’t we head out for dinner? You all must be extrely hungry."
The president took them to a luxurious restaurant for dinner in the city. The private dining room was elegant, with crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, fine china used for everything, and many servants walking around serving expensive wine and cheese for all.
There were multiple tables set up, and Ning sat at one with Godhood and two other heroes he did not recognize.
One of them was a female drow called Bladesoul. She was a master with bladed weapons, who primarily used a sword. Her powers apparently allowed her to send out sword slashes, which she used to defeat all evil.
The other hero was a satyr who could alter the elasticity of every object he touched, going by the na of Rebound.
The two heroes were both interested in Ning as the most powerful awakener in recent history, so they asked him a few questions, trying to understand how it was that he awakened so late.
Ning gave them a few non-answers, getting the conversation moving along.
"What are your thoughts on people getting powers, Sir Blackfang?" Bladesoul asked. "Do you think it’s right?"
"I’m not sure. I haven’t really given it much thought at the mont," Ning said.
"What about you, Sir Godhood?" she turned toward the angel.
Godhood took a mont to think before answering. "I think it’s great. It would solve a lot of issues with our society," he said.
"Really?" Rebound chid in. "Do you not think it would be better if powers weren’t made free to everyone out there?"
"What sort of trouble would there be?" Godhood asked.
Rebound blinked. "Well, I’m sure you don’t see the lot you fight as dangerous, but don’t you at least consider them troubleso? That’s already just a fraction of the people that awaken normally. If the ability to awaken was available to everyone, wouldn’t we see a lot more dangerous people?"
Bladesoul nodded to the side. "Yes. I don’t want the world to beco any more dangerous than it already is," she said.
"The bad guys are not the only ones that will awaken," Ning spoke up. "When everyone awakens, there will also be a large number of people willing to be a hero as well. Isn’t that a good thing?"
Bladesoul laughed a little. "While I will say that’s good for the people, I’m not sure I want any more competition. I struggle just as I am already."
Ning smiled. "Seriously though, having more people with powers won’t change the dynamic of the world all that much. First of all, the majority of all powers that awaken are weak and not that useful. Even if they are useful, those people won’t necessarily want to be a hero or a villain. They will live their normal lives."
"We will still need bakers, barbers, chefs, drivers, and every other profession out there. Honestly, I don’t think life would change all that much."
Godhood gave a gentle nod as a smile ford on his face. "I am more than inclined to believe what you believe too. Things won’t change all that much, and even if they do, we will still be there to stop the bad things from happening."
He turned to look at the other heroes. "I trust myself enough to do that. Do you?"
Bladesoul and Rebound did not have many more things to say. They gave a few nods and diverted their attention toward the food.
There were a few such conversations happening at every table, the heroes trying to determine what the other heroes thought about the situation. Everyone spoke in hushed whispers.
Ning watched them, noting the different reactions. So looked excited, others troubled. Everyone seed calculating, already weighing the implications of what they’d seen and how they felt about the situation.
President Mosterll sat at one of the tables, eating calmly as if this were a routine business dinner. When the al finished, she set down her napkin and addressed them.
"Tomorrow morning, we’ll have a more official eting," she said to the group. "I’ll explain what roles I wish for everyone to play. The world is changing, gentlen and ladies. I just hope you won’t be caught off-guard by it all. Rest well tonight. Think carefully about what you’ve seen and been told. I’ll see you all tomorrow."
The president left first. Then, a group of well-dressed n in black suits arrived to escort them from the restaurant and back to their hotel. The heroes went out in silence, returning to the hotel.
Ning sat with Frostveil, Lightspeed, and Bloodborn in a van on the way back, where they too talked about how everyone felt.
They had all co to the sa conclusion that they were going to help the president with her task. Safeguarding the transport of Aullazire was a very important task that they believed they had a duty to take care of.
The danger that ca from missing Aullazire was so great that Ning could understand their feelings. A single piece the size of a fist was enough to suppress an entire mall with the right technology.
If those things were to get into the wrong hands, the heroes would have a lot of trouble coming their way. Just for that alone, they were willing to work as guards.
Given the number of heroes willing, they would likely work in shifts, maybe once a month at most.
Ning had already pretty much decided to help them, so he didn’t need any more convincing at all. He was just waiting for the order now.
