We had just gained an upper hand on Temple Saber when Rina's ssage echoed in my head. And at that mont, Renandal-senpai launched a powerful attack.
"Do not look down upon us! «Peerless Knight» is more than that! «Human-Horse Oneness»! «Peerless - nacing Storm»!"
The «Human-Horse Oneness» was a buff skill that enhanced stats by a large margin while riding a horse. However, since its active duration wasn't long, this was the type of skill saved for critical monts.
Renandal-senpai seed to be staking everything in this confrontation.
I already was privy to the opponent's big moves, so I had inford Rika to prepare to counter as soon as he had started this skill.
On the other hand, «Peerless - nacing Storm» was a 4th order offense skill. Renandal-senpai held the spear high in the air, horizontally, and spun it like a helicopter's propeller, generating a fierce tornado ant to blow everything away in the surrounding area. It was a wide-area skill.
Rika buffed herself with «Vangarud's Charge», a skill that granted resistance against knockback and closed the distance between Renandal-senpai and her.
"You’re not doing it! «Charged - Disruption Strike»!"
"Aarg—W-what did you do!?"
She used a buff negation skill. It invalidated the newest buff, erasing Renandal-senpai's trump card into oblivion. This skill was capable of erasing more than one buff, scaling with the skill's level, but at its present level, the limit was one.
A startled outlook covered Renandal-senpai's face as he realised he just lost his trump card. However he didn't let it stop himself.
"It's not over yet! Haaaa!"
He kept his skill «Peerless - nacing Storm» and jumped at our rearguard.
"Lacritta!"
"Pon! The Great Shield of Wall - «Gigantic Wall»!"
I swiftly warned Lacritta. Within a mont, she materialised a huge shield, blocking the raging storm from dealing damage to them.
Alas, it only served to slow him. The storm continued to shave off the huge shield. It was clear the shield wouldn't last long.
anwhile, the stalemate between «Crusader» and Celia's Ignis saw a change.
"«ga Bash»! «Impact Rush»!"
Crusader suddenly made a move, activating an advanced version of «Shield Bash» and «Rush» skill. He smacked his shield against Ignis.
"! Ignis-sama!"
Ceclia's astonishnt filled voice echoed. The repeated shield strike had blown Ignis away. It didn't deal much damage, but it freed Crusader from her pursuit. The latter imdiately broke into a rush, his target being—our buffer, Noel.
"Wait—wah! «Live Song Impact»!"
"«Crushing Shield Bash»!"
Noel defended herself by using a shockwave attack with knockback effect, but it didn't work on Crusader. Presumably due to knockback resistance. He kept on his sprint and slamd his shield against Noel.
"Kyaa!"
"Noel-chan!"
It threw off Noel, putting her into Downed status.
"It's my chance! «Rock Crushing Spear»!"
Taking advantage of the situation, Renandal-senpai activated another strong skill, and threw his spear.
With trendous montum, the spear sliced through the air and close-in to Noel. Lacritta's «Gigantic Wall» was still active, and that prevented her from providing any help in ti.
The spear struck Noel squarely, bringing her HP to zero.
"N-Noel-chan?!"
"Aah! ...Uh-huh, I guess that's it for m—"
She exhaled in regret and was teleported out of the field.
For Renandal-senpai, his persistence had won this round.
I left «Templar Knight» to Aegis, and charged at Renandal-senpai, the latter wide-open having just used a skill.
"Payback ti!! «Brave Slash»!"
"!! Gaaan?!"
My attack registered substantial damage.
Noel had to retreat because of him. It was our ti to get revenge for her, so prepare yourself, Renandal-senpai!
To be frank, it was impressive how he managed to bring down Noel, even if we were one advanced job mber short. They're great at it. But this was the end. I pursued Renandal-senpai.
"Unique Skill—«Brave Heart»! «Sonic Shield»!"
"Argh... not from behind."
Renandal-senpai sohow managed to turn his horse to face , but unfortunately for him, he was an open book to . Knights were more vulnerable at their back. After all, they couldn't dexterously turn around.
I used «Brave Heart» to buff myself, slid behind him utilising «Sonic Sword», and slashed at the armoured horse.
During «Riding», any damage to the horse was borne by the equipper. In short, any damage to the horse would also affect Renandal-senpai's HP.
nacing Storm was one of the skills that could've thrown off—since the said skill covered every blind spot of the user—but he had already invoked it a mont ago, and failed.
Now, he only had the option to move forward.
"Tch, then about this—«Horse Driv——"
"I am still here! «Lightning Slash»! «Battle Intent»!"
Sure enough, Renandal-senpai tried to escape out of my range, but Rika blocked him.
"Rgh, «Legion Charge»!"
"«Repel»!"
"«Lightning Slash»!"
He tried to break through using charge skill, only to be interrupted by Rika's two swords. I aid at the timing and delivered another slash.
The damage was substantial enough that it took out a huge chunk out of Senpai's HP bar. Knights were typically tanky, but even they're invincible against strong skills. He was now at 30% HP.
We were this close to finishing him off for good. Alas, it wasn't that easy.
"I can not—and will not go down here! The guild's fate hangs on this!"
Woah?! In an unexpected turn, he jumped out of his horse, removing it from his equipnt slot.
Oh well, my previous strategy was no longer effective. But, seriously, I never knew you could do that while stuck in confrontation?!
"Graaah!"
And the direction he jumped was... toward . He held the spear from earlier in his hands—equipnt would return to the owner's hand when thrown—as it glowed in effect. It's that skill again.
"What the hell, you could use it even while jumping too?!"
"«Thousand Spear Bloom»!"
It was the fifth order skill from earlier. A skill capable of delivering a nearly limitless hit.
Crap. I honestly didn't see it coming, but that posture was hella coo—Oh wait, not now!
"«Thunderbolt»!"
"Aargh?!"
I faced it with a magic attack.
Ordinarily, «Thousand Spear Bloom» would've torn it apart amidst its flurry of attack, but the spear was re inches away from . There was not enough space for it to change the target, and that's what I was hoping for. I tried to pull a skill fumble, and—it worked.
It still dealt so damage to , but the attacks stopped before it could deal any serious damage, and in the aftermath, it blew Senpai away.
But to my surprise, he didn't let it break his stance, and just flipped in the air and landed on his feet. ...You know what, maybe I should try it soday too. Those moves were so cool.
So far, so good. However, it all ends now. Rika was at the tail of Renandal-senpai, while I faced him square. To Renandal-senpai, he would've liked to put into distance and face Rika.
"This is the end!"
"Bring it on!"
Senpai's voice echoed and his spear lit up once again.
"«Spear of Destruction»!"
It was a fourth order skill, boasting superior piercing effect. Alas, he was facing .
"«Defense»!"
I opted for a second order skill. Of course, the defense skill was re paper in front of it.
However I knew «Spear of Destruction» like the back of my hand. It had been one of my favourite skills in the ga as a fact. As long as I match my timing and made a follow up—
"Parry!"
"Wha—!!"
—I pulled it!
It was obvious Renandal-senpai weren't expecting to counter his skill in just the first face off. His face explained it all.
As soon as the spear ca into contact, it flipped out of his hand. It was a perfect defense.
Now, it was my turn.
"Renandal-senpai, it was fun facing you——«Holy Sword»!"
"Rrrgh! ......ggh, so this... is the end. I failed......"
It was a clean hit, slicing away the remaining HP of Senpai.
With a mournful expression, he departed from the field.
