Holy Dragon City.
As the capital of the Dragon Soaring Empire, Holy Dragon City doesn’t have the largest population, but its location at the heart of the Empire and its perpetual spring-like climate make it unmatched in prosperity by any other city. It is practically the economic hub of the entire Empire, with countless large and small rchant groups passing through daily and boosting the economy here.
Beneath the prosperous exterior of Holy Dragon City lies a darkness that disgusts people, such as the rampant behavior of nobles large and small, with factions under each noble openly and covertly struggling for power.
The Dragon Soaring Empire has existed for 3,700 years. Even though the Royal Family managed the Empire well and the threat of war significantly extended the Empire’s lifespan, it has existed for too long. Like an ancient tree, it seems lush and thriving, but its roots beneath the soil are largely decayed, ready to topple at any mont.
Setting aside the conflicts among nobles, the fact that the Old King has ruled for 60 years alone is cause for concern.
The appointed Prince is nearly 50 years old, an age by which he should have long since succeeded to the throne. But two years ago, the Old King deposed him and appointed a new Prince, who at 30 is the youngest and most diocre of the Old King’s offspring. There’s even a rumor that he’s not the Old King’s offspring at all.
So clever nobles have already guessed what the Old King intends to do. It’s obvious he doesn’t want to step down from the throne, but at 83, the Old King is like an elderly lion reluctant to let go of its territory. Even with the support of a Magic Potion, he won’t live past a hundred.
The front line is tight, and the Royal Family is also in chaos, but thankfully there are the Five Dukes and Seven Princes to support it. Otherwise, the Empire’s situation would have been in turmoil long ago.
Even so, trying to topple this ’ancient tree’ of the Empire is not sothing that can be done overnight. Moreover, the state of the Tribal Alliance is not much better than the Empire’s, with severe fragntation of power alone sufficient to be fatal, not to ntion the constant conflicts among various races within the Tribal Alliance.
Dong, dong, dong...
The clock tower of Holy Dragon City rang, the pedestrians bustling on the clean stone-paved roads as rchants ca and went in an endless stream.
Underneath Holy Dragon City, there are hundreds of labyrinthine underground passages connected with four surrounding cities, serving as escape routes for the Royal Family or great nobles in critical monts. Commoners have absolutely no access here.
The originally deathly silent underground passage echoed with footsteps as a dozen n and won darted through it at high speed, raising a trail of dust as their figures vanished.
These dozen n and won had just dashed past a corner when a sound of chaotic footsteps ca from behind.
"Where did they run off to?"
"This way."
"We must retrieve the World Core. If they escape to the surface, it’ll be trouble."
The people fleeing ahead were contractors from Apocalypse Paradise, while those pursuing need no introduction — they must be contractors from Reincarnation Paradise.
At this mont, Bubu Wang was mixed in with the Reincarnation Paradise contractors, its nose twitching as it quickly caught a distinct scent — the scent of an enemy.
On Bubu Wang’s dog face, there were faint traces of scratch marks, making its originally handso face look as if it had been clawed by a cat.
That’s right, Bubu Wang had indeed been scratched by a cat. Although the other party was a breathtaking Beauty Cat and a female at that, Bubu Wang wasn’t interested in her. It just wanted to find her and show that pesky ow Star why the flowers are so red!
"Brother Dog, don’t be mad, it was our mistake before."
A young contractor tried to console, but Bubu Wang ignored him, focusing solely on tracking that cat’s scent.
"I thought it had defected before. Never expected such a move, that’s amazing."
A contractor mused, having apparently witnessed sothing mind-blowing.
"Woof."
Bubu Wang barked at a passage and dashed into it, with Bubu Wang’s words being: ’It already slls the enemy’s fragrance.’
In a passage dozens of ters away from Bubu Wang’s team, a cat was running swiftly through the underground passage, followed by a dozen Apocalypse Paradise contractors.
This cat looked sowhat like a Ragdoll, with eyes like blue gemstones, appearing ’refined and elegant.’
"That damn dog."
The cat spat out human speech, her fur bristling furiously, clearly enraged. The reason was that her sleek fur was covered in drool, as if sothing had had her in its mouth — and indeed, that was Bubu Wang’s doing.
"Besnie, don’t be mad. It’s a blessing we got the World Core back — that dog is simply everywhere."
The Apocalypse Paradise contractors were still reeling from the shock. After finding the World Core, they discovered it couldn’t be stored in any storage space or device, and had to be carried openly.
This wasn’t an issue at first, but right when they were about to flee, the World Core was lost, and they didn’t even know how it happened!
Thankfully, Beauty Cat Besnie noticed so abnormality and snatched the World Core back from Bubu Wang’s mouth, though she ended up being swirled dizzy in Bubu Wang’s maw as a result.
Thus began their ’struggle for dominance’ — now with the Cat Star People having the upper hand, while the Dog Star People closely pursued.
"I don’t believe that even if I swallow the World Core, that damn dog could still... ow!"
A shadow of black and white darted from a corner, biting Besnie’s head and taking off without a mont’s pause.
"Save ow!"
Besnie’s voice trailed down the passage. The Apocalypse Paradise contractors were montarily stunned, everyone’s thought being: ’It seed like sothing just whizzed past.’
A few seconds later, Bubu Wang’s Divine Skill ’You Can’t See ’ wore off.
"Chase!"
A tall and thin man roared hoarsely, his voice breaking from the strain. The Apocalypse Paradise contractors sprinted away, their legs stretched wide. While Bubu Wang’s combat ability wasn’t impressive, its escape speed could only be described as lightning-fast.
Ahead, the cat Besnie, pinched by the head in Bubu Wang’s mouth, was almost in tears. She scratched Bubu Wang’s face with her claws, causing Bubu Wang to shake its head left and right in pain. Seconds later, Besnie’s fluffy little claws drooped weakly.
"Help~"
Besnie dared not scratch Bubu Wang again, as she was reconnaissance-oriented and far inferior in physical attributes to Bubu Wang.
Victorious, Bubu Wang didn’t let up, swinging Besnie around left and right a few more tis.
"Woooo~ I was wrong, ugh~"
Tears welled up in Besnie’s big blue eyes; she wanted to vomit, but with the fingernail-sized World Core inside her stomach, she didn’t dare to.
Bubu Wang regained the World Core, taking along a Beauty Cat in the process.
"Dumb dog, dare you to a fair duel!"
Hearing Besnie’s words, Bubu Wang, who had run far, stopped in its tracks and swung Besnie toward the wall.
Bang!
Besnie let out a pitiful cry as she hit the wall. No sooner did she land than she tried to flee, but a pair of large paws already pounced on her.
"ow!"
"ow Star Paws Combo!"
"Woof!"
After a cacophony, Bubu Wang continued to flee with Besnie in its mouth, now with a few more scratch marks on its face. Besnie had obviously beco much more subdued, with tears streaking down her furred cheeks as she was thrashed into tears by Bubu Wang.
"Wooo~ Master, save , I can’t beat this dumb dog, help!!"
Bubu Wang strode away like a triumphant rooster, stepping lightly. It wasn’t going to find those agile contractors in its own camp; those people weren’t to be trusted. Bubu Wang would only hand the World Core to one person.
