Yang i chuckled and said,
"Ahem, I misspoke, little Saozi, don’t mind . I’m just envious that you found such a good man. My man is ten years older than yours, yet his position is so much lower. Your man’s future is sure to be promising; you have good fortune ahead of you."
Nianyang replied coolly, "Thank you for your kind words, Yang Saozi, but I still need to clean up, so you should head back. We’ll chat so other ti when we have the chance."
Yang i’s forced friendly expression instantly fell apart. She had lingered for so long just to get Nianyang to share so food. But since Nianyang was showing no intention of doing so and even wanted her to leave, she decided to be direct,
"Little Saozi, I saw you brought so much stuff. It must all be yummy food from your ho. Since we’re neighbors, why not share a bit with as a welco gift?"
So, this was the real reason she had been talking for so long; Yang Saozi just wanted to take advantage of her!
No doubt she had seen Nianyang giving at to Dong Hu and was jealous.
Nianyang wasn’t a stingy person, nor was she lacking in supplies. If it were any other neighbor, she probably would have given sothing as a welco gift, but knowing Yang i’s rcenary nature,
she feared the saying "a favor received, a grudge repaid"—if she satisfied Yang i’s greed, Yang i would think she was easily manipulated and would keep trying to take advantage of her. That wouldn’t be good.
Although Nianyang wasn’t afraid of confrontation, this was the Fishern District—there were many people and lots of gossip, and her image as the Saozi could affect her husband’s interests. Nianyang didn’t want to get involved with soone as troubleso as Yang i.
To prevent future troubles,
Nianyang deliberately took out a big cabbage from one of her bags and handed it to her,
"Yang Saozi, this is a vegetable from my garden at ho, have a taste."
A big cabbage!
Yang i’s face turned green. She ate cabbage every day and was sick of it. Who would want cabbage? Her true self finally erged,
"Little Saozi, are you pretending not to understand? You just gave bacon and sausages to those two sailors, but you’re giving vegetables?"
Nianyang replied with a half-smile, "Ah, so Yang Saozi was after my at. But I gave the sailors at because they drove from far away to pick up at the station and helped carry my luggage. That was their compensation. Why do you think you deserve my at?"
Yang i’s face turned red, "My husband and your husband work in the sa company; we’re all one family. Why keep things so separate? It’s so hurtful!"
Nianyang’s smile widened, and her tone carried a surprising authority for her tender age,
"Yang Saozi, you’re mistaken. Although our husbands work in the sa company, your husband is technically a subordinate of mine.
Therefore, it’s not proper for to give you a welco gift. Instead, as the wife of my husband’s subordinate, you should be giving , the superior’s wife, a gift. That’s the way it should be."
Yang i was taken aback; this little Saozi’s words were too sharp for her to handle.
Nianyang continued calmly, "But our husbands are businessn and gifts aren’t their thing to avoid misunderstandings of favoritism. It’s not good for either of them, so let’s skip the welco gifts."
"You..."
Yang i was speechless, and for the first ti, this Saozi, known for her quarreling skills, was at a loss for words.
Seems she wouldn’t get any advantage!
"Just say you don’t want to share your at; why beat around the bush? Do you think I really crave your at?"
Yang i snapped angrily and turned away, slamming the door behind her.
