"Ying Ying, when are you coming back to campus? Oh, after the Lantern Festival? Okay... How do you manage to stay at ho for so long? I can’t even stand it for a day. Alright, you get so rest then."
After hanging up, Wu Xiaoya walked alone through the university grounds. If she could, she would have loved to stay at ho for a few more days. But recently, she’d been surviving on scraps, so she decided it was better to use the excuse of returning to school early to preserve what was left of her pitiful mother-daughter relationship.
This was the typical experience for contemporary college students. Before the holidays, their parents would call every day asking when they would return. For the first few days ho, they couldn’t wait to shower them with good food and all sorts of fun. But after a while, they would start to find fault with everything. Wu Xiaoya suspected that if she had stayed for another two or three days, she would have been kicked out of her own ho. She let out a long sigh.
Since the sester wouldn’t start for over a week, the campus was nearly empty, making it feel even more desolate. Wu Xiaoya rubbed her arms against the cold and quickened her steps toward the dormitory. One of the great things about college dorms was that you could stay in them even during the holidays, unlike in high school where you had to wait for the sester to start before moving in.
As she was walking, a luxury car suddenly drove past her. Wu Xiaoya stopped in her tracks. Do rich kids have troubles during the New Year, too? Is that why they co back to school early?
The thought had barely crossed her mind when the luxury car pulled into a spot in the parking lot. Then, she saw Xue Yang get out.
Her pace slowed as shock rippled through her. Xue Yang? How can it be him! Didn’t Ying Ying say his family was ordinary? That they were even less well-off than hers? How could he be coming to school in a luxury car?!
After Uncle He dropped Xue Yang off at school, he departed.
Xue Yang went to the parking lot to get his car. It had been sitting for so long that it took a while just to start the engine. Fortunately, the temperature wasn’t as absurdly low as it had been before the New Year; otherwise, he probably wouldn’t have been able to drive off at all.
Xue Yang leaned against the car with his arms crossed. He was already handso, and posing next to a luxury car only amplified his charisma. If school were in session, soone would have definitely snapped a picture of this scene to use in the university’s promotional materials.
I should have found a covered parking spot. Then I wouldn’t have to be standing out here in the cold wind, he thought.
While the engine struggled to turn over, Xue Yang got bored and logged into King’s Ga to kill so ti. The holiday season was always a peak period for player activity. However, as the start of the sester drew closer, many students who had been playing nonstop began to reduce their online hours. This inevitably led to a dip in traffic, which ant it was ti to run promotions to attract new players.
"Junior Xue Yang?"
Hearing the voice, Xue Yang looked up and saw Wu Xiaoya standing not far away, her expression a mixture of surprise and disbelief.
"Senior Xiao Ya, Happy New Year!"
"The New Year is over, and you’re still wishing a happy New Year?"
"The celebrations aren’t over until the fifteenth day, so it still counts as the New Year."
"I suppose you’re right. What are you doing here, Junior Xue Yang?"
"My car’s been sitting for too long; it’s taking a while to start."
"This car is yours?"
"Yeah."
"You bought it yourself?"
"Yes."
"You’re impressive, Junior! It’s only been one sester, and you’ve already bought yourself a car."
She still rembered how, just last sester when school started, Xue Yang would always follow Chen Ying around, constantly calling her ’Senior.’ He would often ask her things like, "Senior, when will you accept my confession?" "Senior, when will you be my girlfriend?" "Senior, would you like so milk tea? I bought you one." "Senior, please don’t be mad. I really like you." The mories were still vivid.

He’s the perfect model for the modern young man. What on earth did Ying Ying not see in him? Maybe she never expected he’d beco so successful? Well, it’s too late for regrets now.
"I had no choice. A kid without an umbrella just has to learn to run faster in the rain."
Wu Xiaoya’s lips twitched. "Junior, it’s not right to lie."
"I’m not lying."
"But I clearly saw you get out of a Bentley just now. The license plate was five eights."
"I deliberately ca to campus when I thought no one would be around, but I guess I couldn’t escape your notice, Senior."
"So you admit it? You’re actually a rich kid, right?"
"No, that was a friend’s car. He was just giving a ride. Anyway, why are you back at school so early, Senior?"
Wu Xiaoya didn’t try to hide it. "I had no choice. After a while at ho, it feels like even breathing is a mistake, so I had to co back early. What about you, Junior? Are you here early for that studio you ntioned?"
"Yeah."
"Well, since I’ve got nothing else to do... Junior, could I maybe see your studio? I’m just curious. I played your ga over the holiday—it’s so much fun!—and I’d love to see where it’s made."
Just then, the engine finally roared to life.
Xue Yang opened the door. "Alright, hop in, Senior."
Wu Xiaoya reached for the passenger door handle, but then she rembered Xue Yang had a girlfriend. She hesitated for a second, stepped back, and opened the rear door instead, sliding into the back seat.
"It’s freezing outside; it’s so much warr in here," she said. "Junior, how did you manage to afford a car like this in just a few months?"
Even though I don’t know much about cars, I know Audis aren’t cheap. And this one seems way more high-end than any other Audi I’ve ever seen.
How did I do it? Does having a rich girlfriend count? Then again, she already handed over her entire fortune to , so I guess it doesn’t really matter whose money it was anymore, Xue Yang mused.
Wu Xiaoya watched as Xue Yang pulled a pink purse from his pocket and placed it in the glove compartnt. It looked like a small wallet.
"Is that your girlfriend’s?" Wu Xiaoya asked casually.
"Yeah. She’s busy with school and doesn’t need to carry much cash, so she left it with for now."
That girl must really trust him to just hand over her wallet like that! Shouldn’t she be holding onto her own wallet and making *him* hand over all the money he earns? With his current ability to make money, tons of girls will be throwing themselves at him. Soone could easily steal him away.
