Xue Yang turned around and retorted, "Wang Doudou, if you have a clear conscience, what good would it do for to say anything in front of her?"
"You..." Wang Doudou was rendered speechless.
Indeed. Even after Wang Duoxin told Lin Xi that Xue Yang had once left a hotel with a woman, she still chose to trust him. Yet, if it were Wang Doudou, a single word from Xue Yang would be enough for Si Wen to believe the worst of him.
Why was that?
It was because no matter how well so people hide their true nature, the little details and the look in their eyes always give them away.
That day, Wang Doudou had a date with Si Wen at Imperial City. He acted like a perfect gentleman, catering to her every whim. He satisfied all her desires and even anticipated things she hadn’t thought of. But he was *too* much of a gentleman, which made Si Wen wary. Furthermore, whenever he looked at her, his eyes held an involuntary, aggressive quality that made her uncomfortable. This was enough to convince her that he must be accustod to dating many won.
"Miss Lin, I’m a man, and I know how n think," Wang Doudou said, deciding to go all out. "The only reason he’s with you is for your money. No man is immune to money. You’re beautiful and wealthy, which is why Xue Yang likes you. If you lacked either of those things, he probably wouldn’t spare you a second glance."
He wasn’t going to have an easy ti, and he was determined to drag Xue Yang down with him.
However, Lin Xi’s response nearly sent him plumting into an abyss.
"If my beauty and my money are what make Xue Yang like , then I’m very happy about that. Wang Doudou, don’t waste your breath slandering him. I like him, and I understand him. I certainly won’t turn against him just because of a few words from soone else. The ti I’ve spent with him has been more than enough to show that he is soone worthy of my trust."
"Miss Lin, I’ve said my piece. If you won’t believe , there’s nothing more I can do. When you get cheated on, don’t say I didn’t warn you."
With that, Wang Doudou stord off, feeling utterly aggrieved. He found that whenever he encountered Xue Yang, nothing good ever happened. There were no exceptions. It’s like he’s my nesis. Around him, I’m nothing but a clown.
Damn it, Xue Yang, just you wait. One day, I’ll make you realize that crossing was the biggest mistake of your life.
Wang Doudou still hadn’t realized that while he talked tough every ti he t Xue Yang, he always ended up being the one to tuck his tail between his legs and run.
"Xiao Xi, why don’t you believe what Wang Doudou said?" Xue Yang asked.
Lin Xi replied, "The one spending every day with is you, not him. Why should I believe anything he says?"
With a wife like this, what more could a husband ask for?
"Damn it!" one of Wang Doudou’s companions cursed after he returned to their table.
"Young Master Wang, who exactly is that Xue Yang? How can Miss Lin be so protective of him?" another asked. In high society circles, Lin Xi was a top-tier figure. People like them could only admire her from a distance and stay out of her way.
"If you’re asking , who am I supposed to ask?" Wang Doudou snapped. As long as Chairman Lin doesn’t acknowledge him, Xue Yang is a nobody.
"I’ve lost my appetite. You guys can eat without ."
With that, Wang Doudou turned and left.
Xue Yang and Lin Xi went to a VIP private room, where they each ordered the other’s favorite dishes.
After their al, Xue Yang escorted Lin Xi back to the villa. The things they had purchased arrived shortly after they got back.
At the sa ti, Xue Yang received so "love" from ho in the form of a fund transfer notification. It was a large sum from his father, Xue Yuanqing.
Xue Yang hesitated for only a second before deciding to video call him back.
"Dad."
Normally, whenever Xue Yang needed to discuss sothing, he would call his mother, Zhong Hailan. And if Xue Yuanqing wanted to tell his son sothing, he would have Zhong Hailan relay the ssage. Xue Yuanqing was a bit taken aback and unaccustod to receiving a direct video call from Xue Yang.
"Honey!" he called out, then again, "Honey!"
Holding the phone like a hot potato, he scrambled to find his wife.
"What’s all the shouting about?" Zhong Hailan asked.
"It’s a video call from your son."
Zhong Hailan shot him a sideways glance. "What do you an, ’my son’? Isn’t he your son, too?"
"Hehe, they always say a son is closer to his mother. Quick, answer it before he hangs up."
Zhong Hailan helplessly took Xue Yuanqing’s phone and pressed the answer button. Xue Yang’s handso face instantly appeared on the screen.
"Where’s Xiao Xi?" was the first thing she asked.
"Mom, where’s Dad?" he retorted.
He’s definitely her son, alright.
"Here, here. Your son is looking for you," Zhong Hailan said, stuffing the phone back into Xue Yuanqing’s hands before turning to continue cooking.
Taking the phone back, Xue Yuanqing beca extrely awkward.
"You got the money, right? Don’t be frugal with it. If it’s not enough, just let know, and I’ll find a way to send you more."
"Dad, you really don’t need to send any more. I can support myself now. I have enough money."
"I want to."
"..."
Instead of arguing further, Xue Yang sent a screenshot of his bank account balance.
"Dad, take a look at the picture I just sent you before you say anything else."
Xue Yuanqing, puzzled by his son’s actions, opened the picture. When he zood in, he nearly dropped his phone.
"Xiao Yang, you... you didn’t sell yourself, did you?"
?????
Xue Yang had considered several possible reactions from his father, but he never, ever expected him to say that.
"Dad, what are you thinking? I earned all this myself."
"You didn’t sell yourself? Then how could you possibly have so much money?" Xue Yuanqing had never seen a bank balance with so many digits in his entire life. If the screenshot hadn’t included the notification from the money he had just sent, Xue Yuanqing would have suspected his son had just found a random picture online to fool him.
The mont he received the fund transfer notification, Xue Yang understood. His mother, Zhong Hailan, must have been shocked by Xiao Xi’s spending power during their shopping trip. Because he had been focused on decorating the villa, he hadn’t given it much thought. He hadn’t expected them to take it to heart so much.
My parents must have really wrestled with the decision before sending that money.
It was at that mont that Xue Yang decided to stop hiding the truth from them.
"Dad, I haven’t told you this before because I was worried you’d think it would affect my studies. The truth is, I started trying to launch my own company last year. All this money is what I’ve earned from that company."
"What? You started a company?!" Xue Yuanqing could hardly believe that his son, who had just started college, had already founded his own business.
And from the looks of it, he’d succeeded.
"Yes, Dad. I can provide for Xiao Xi, so you don’t have to worry. I’ll transfer the money back to you in a bit. You really don’t have to worry about anymore."
