Vivian Yates bit her lip and briefly explained what had happened last night.
Leona Grant’s brow furrowed. "You’re saying they beat you by mistake because of your friend?"
"...Yes."
Leona Grant’s frown deepened. She took out a first-aid kit, pulled Vivian onto the sofa, and began to apply the ointnt herself. "I’ll get to the bottom of this for you. I won’t let you get beaten for nothing."
Vivian gave a touched smile, though a cold glint flashed in her eyes. "Thank you, President. There’s just sothing I wanted to tell you..."
Leona Grant replied coolly, "What is it?"
Vivian bit her lip, looking aggrieved. "I saw Annabelle yesterday when I was being beaten. Wendy King knows Annabelle, too. I don’t know if Annabelle got dragged into this, and I’m really worried about her. Can you help check on her? She’s not answering my calls..."
Leona Grant’s hand paused. A strange glint flickered in her eyes. "You’re saying Annabelle Linton was there yesterday, too?"
"Yes..."
"Mm, I see. I’ll ask her for you."
She stood up with an air of indifference, clearly not taking the matter to heart.
Vivian’s lips curled into a cold smile. ’So what if you’re the Grant family’s Young Madam, Annabelle Linton?’
’Doesn’t Leona still treat you like dirt?’
She’d seen the news about Wendy King and felt that this incident had to be connected to Annabelle Linton.
’This was her goal—’
’She wanted Leona Grant to investigate. If the investigation dug up anything useful, she would take full advantage of it. She would use Leona to do her dirty work and utterly destroy Annabelle Linton.’
’And even if this incident had nothing to do with Annabelle, it didn’t matter.’
’She had just acted so worried about Annabelle Linton in front of Leona Grant. If Leona investigated and discovered that Annabelle had simply stood by and done nothing, she would only despise Annabelle even more.’
’She had done her research. As soon as Annabelle Linton’s brother’s birthday passed, they would get a divorce.’
’What she feared was that delays would bring complications. Only by making Leona Grant hate Annabelle Linton even more would Leona be able to harden her heart and go through with the divorce!’
"Well then, President, I’ll get back to work. Make sure you get so rest." She didn’t linger, doing her best to project the image of a diligent and reliable employee.
Leona Grant pressed the ointnt into her hand. "Mm, take this with you. Don’t forget to apply it."
Vivian was very touched. "Okay."
The mont Vivian closed the door, Leona Grant’s expression darkened. She picked up her phone and imdiately called Annabelle Linton.
’She was still injured. If soone was bullying her too, she’d have no way to fight back.’
’Then, everything would be her fault.’
She tried calling for a full five minutes, but it wouldn’t connect.
The look on Leona Grant’s face could no longer be described as rely grim. She pressed the intercom and summoned her assistant, Chase.
"Find out where Annabelle Linton is, if she’s hurt, and who attacked Vivian Yates," Leona Grant commanded, her voice low.
"Yes."
After agreeing, Chase shot Leona Grant a surprised glance.
’Usually, the President couldn’t care less about the Madam’s well-being. But today, she probably didn’t even realize it herself; she wasn’t just concerned for the Madam, she had even prioritized her over Miss Yates.’
Chase pursed his lips and left. ’The President is becoming more and more difficult to understand.’
A short while later, he had the results.
Chase briefly summarized what happened yesterday. "President, the Madam is uninjured. She’s currently eating at a restaurant. Manager Yates was indeed caught in the crossfire. The attackers were a group of unregistered migrant workers who have already scattered, making them impossible to track down. However, we did find out who hired them. It was the first wife’s mother, Mrs. King of the King Group."
