"Two hours after seeing these words, this island will collapse. Now, you have a choice."
Leona Grant’s expression darkened as he read the words. ’It seems taking out this notebook triggered a trap.’
He turned a page. "Press the deep blue brick on the third wall. A bottle of dicine will appear. One of you must drink it. The person who does will die within one minute. Imdiately after, this door will automatically open, and the survivor will be able to leave safely. You have twenty minutes from the mont the brick is pressed to make your choice. Otherwise, this place will explode."
Leona Grant and Annabelle Linton exchanged a look, their eyes both falling on the deep blue brick on the third wall.
They both started walking toward it. The brick did indeed stand out; its color was a shade darker than the rest.
Their expressions were grim. If the island collapsed in two hours, they would surely die.
They stood in silence for ten minutes, examining the walls again, but they found nothing.
After a mont of thought, Annabelle Linton reached out to press the brick.
’There’s no ti to waste. I have to see what’s behind this blue brick.’
Leona Grant stepped in front of Annabelle Linton and said seriously, "We don’t know if there’s a trap or sothing. Don’t touch it. I’ll do it."
"I’ll do it."
Leona Grant chuckled. "I know you’re worried about , but this is a man’s job. Don’t ruin my image."
"..." ’I could just kill him,’ she thought. ’Making jokes at a ti like this.’
Seeing Annabelle Linton lean against the wall with her arms crossed, Leona Grant knew she had given in.
It didn’t matter who retrieved it; nothing would change.
He reached out and ruffled her hair, but Annabelle Linton swatted his hand away.
He chuckled again, but the mont he turned away, his expression beca impossibly cold.
’I already examined these walls earlier. There’s no way to break through.’
’Maybe... everything written here is true...’
Leona Grant walked over and pressed the brick.
Sure enough, three seconds later the brick slid back into the wall, and a bottle of red liquid erged.
The liquid was held in a transparent glass bottle. Its color was vibrant, yet it was terrifyingly similar to blood.
At the sa ti, a twenty-minute countdown tir appeared beside it.
Leona Grant’s gaze hardened. He took the bottle and turned to face Annabelle Linton.
Annabelle Linton stared at the countdown on the wall, her expression grave.
’I don’t know if this is real,’ she thought, ’but watching those numbers tick down feels like a hand gripping my heart.’
It was the fear of death, exactly the sa as what she’d felt just before she died in her past life.
Leona Grant put the bottle in his pocket. Seeing Annabelle Linton’s deeply furrowed brow, he reached out and pulled her into his arms.
’I checked the countdown tir. It’s real. There’s no way to disable it.’
’There’s no way out.’
Leona Grant held Annabelle Linton. ’I still love holding her so much.’
He cupped her face, and before Annabelle Linton could react, Leona Grant leaned down and kissed her.
It was brief, but very gentle.
He pulled her back into his arms and said in a low voice, "Annabelle Linton, I know I wronged you terribly in the past, and I went too far. I won’t make any excuses for myself, but in the future... please promise you’ll live well, okay?"
Annabelle Linton wanted to push him away, to ask him what he ant.
Leona Grant held her tightly, refusing to let go. His tall fra was bent, his face buried in Annabelle Linton’s hair as he inhaled her scent.
’Soon, I’ll never be able to sll it again...’
Annabelle Linton hit him hard a few tis, but he didn’t let go. "What do you an?"
