They stood outside the door and talked for quite so ti.

The patient’s relative had asked a lot of questions, all of which Annabelle Linton answered with professional and ticulous care, a testant to her expertise.

After exchanging smiling goodbyes, Annabelle Linton’s gaze shifted, and she instantly saw Leona Grant standing at her desk, casually flipping through her patient files.

In a flash, the faint smile on her face vanished, replaced by the cold indifference she reserved just for him.

Leona Grant noticed the change, too. And he was certain she wasn’t faking it.

That kind of deep-seated distance and disgust couldn’t be faked.

For a second, he hesitated, wondering if he should continue to test her.

"Why are you here?"

Annabelle Linton walked into her office and saw him sitting on the sofa. Her brows knitted in displeasure. "Didn’t I tell you not to co bother ?"

’Bother her?’

’He had a mountain of work waiting at the company. A single missed signature could cost tens of millions, yet he’d left before his own workday was over to pick her up. And this was what she called "bothering her"?’

’Even if he did have ulterior motives, he wouldn’t let anyone belittle his efforts like this!’

The smile vanished from Leona Grant’s face, replaced by a grim, ominous expression.

"I ca all the way to the hospital to pick you up from work, and this is the attitude I get?" His face was as dark as a thundercloud. "There’s a limit to how ungrateful a person can be!"

’Pick up from work?’

’Hah.’

"Thank you for coming all this way, but I’m just that ungrateful. Please leave. And don’t show up here again." Annabelle Linton walked around him and started tidying the patient files he had disarranged on her desk.

She frowned.

’She hated it when people ssed with her things.’

A flash of impatience crossed Leona Grant’s eyes, but then he seed to recall sothing.

A wicked smirk played on his lips as he slowly closed the distance and wrapped his arms around her from behind.

In her white coat, Annabelle Linton looked exceptionally pristine and fair-skinned.

From his angle, he could see her thick, curled lashes give a slight tremor at his touch.

That tiny movent sent Leona Grant’s heart racing.

The sudden touch sent a jolt like an electric current through her body, and Annabelle Linton’s back went rigid.

With the familiar scent ca a pain that felt etched into her very bones.

Annabelle Linton shoved him away as if she’d been shocked.

Leona Grant was surprised by the sheer force of her push, but to no avail. She couldn’t break his hold.

Annabelle Linton’s gaze darkened, and she said in a low voice, "Let go if you don’t want to die."

Leona Grant froze, taken aback by her tone and her words.

’Was that really Annabelle Linton who just said that?’

But her feeble struggles and that ridiculous threat made Leona Grant laugh out loud.

His searing body heat and the burning touch made her breath catch in her throat.

Leona Grant leaned in, resting his chin on her shoulder. "Darling," he murmured, his voice deceptively gentle, "I ca all this way just to pick you up from work. Don’t be like this, okay?"

’Darling?’

’Ca all this way to pick up?’

A cold sneer escaped Annabelle Linton.

As far as she could rember, this was the first ti Leona Grant had ever spoken to her so gently. The first ti he had ever called her "Darling." The first ti he had ever gone out of his way to pick her up from work.

Annabelle Linton suddenly found it deeply ironic. Back when she had hung on his every word, he wouldn’t even deign to spare her a glance.

Now that she despised and hated him, he was suddenly starting to be gentle, to be nice to her.

’How ridiculous is that?’

But Annabelle Linton didn’t believe for a second that he was genuinely starting to be good to her.

’What is he really after?’
