The sound of a gunshot startled them both.
Annabelle Linton looked over. Leona Grant was standing in the doorway, pointing a pitch-black gun at Aaron Wyatt.
A surge of panic shot through her, and she imdiately threw herself in front of Aaron Wyatt, staring at Leona Grant in alarm. "What are you doing?!"
"What am I doing?" The corners of Leona Grant’s lips curved, but her eyes were glacial. "Nothing much. Didn’t I say I was letting you see your new lover? Now that you’ve seen him and had your wish, there’s no reason to keep him around."
’If anyone so much as glanced at the person she liked, she’d think they had ulterior motives.’

"Leona Grant! Don’t go too far!"
A sharp glint flashed in Annabelle Linton’s eyes, and she couldn’t help but raise her voice, roaring, "Do you have to do this? What did we ever do to you? Why won’t you let us go?! If you find us so unsightly, we’ll just take a detour whenever we see you from now on. That should be enough, right?! Can’t you just leave everyone alone?!"

Leona Grant’s icy eyes stared at her, a flicker of anguish in their depths.
That one word was undoubtedly piercing.
’She and him are "us," so what am I to her?’

Her heart ached, but her face remained impassive, as if she felt nothing at all. She gave a light, breezy laugh. "Heh. I’ve said it before. In this world, no one dares to touch , and certainly no one dares to challenge again and again. Do you take for a pushover?"
Leona Grant’s lips curled into a faint smile as she nonchalantly spoke the truth in her heart, her tone tinged with resentnt. "Besides, wouldn’t it be better to kill him, put a stop to your fickle ways, and have you stay obediently by my side so I can dote on you? We’re the ones who should be together!"

Annabelle Linton looked at Leona Grant as if she were a deranged, cold-blooded animal. Her gaze was frigid.
Reborn into this life, she had finally seen Leona’s true face and realized just how blind she had once been.
She couldn’t understand why she had loved such a person for twenty years, only to die a tragic death in the end.
She also couldn’t understand what it was about Leona that had made her so devoted in the past, willing to do anything without a second thought.
Now, she knew.

Annabelle Linton let out a sneer, her deanor calming.
She used the most ornate language to describe the stark reality, piercing the weakness of human nature.
She chuckled softly—a graceful, confident, and icy laugh. "Leona Grant, you think that just because you’ve decided you like , I’m obligated to accept your love, is that right?
You think that because you like , I have to be eternally grateful, so overjoyed I lose all sense of self, and happily accept your affection like a dog wagging its tail, begging for a scrap from its master, is that it?
And if I don’t accept it, then I’m the fickle and promiscuous one, hmm?"
Annabelle Linton looked at her mockingly, as if she had already seen through everything. Without a hint of hesitation, she continued.
