Leona Grant nodded and skillfully took out disinfectant from the first-aid kit. Mrs. Grant glanced at her focused son, then turned away in satisfaction.

Once Mrs. Grant and Ashley Grant were a safe distance away, Annabelle Linton coldly snatched her hand back. "Go eat. You don’t have to worry about ."

Leona Grant froze for a mont, his brow furrowing. He took her hand again. "Let treat it. The cut is deep and it’s still bleeding. If you don’t take care of it properly, it’ll leave a scar."

He then carefully took out so dicinal powder and gently sprinkled it on her hand. The somber, focused look on his face gave Annabelle a strange, mistaken impression.

’Is he actually worried about ?’

’How ridiculous.’

"You can stop the act." Annabelle Linton snatched her hand back again, a mocking smirk on her lips. "There’s no one else here, Leona Grant."

It took a mont for Leona Grant to understand.

’She thinks I’m acting?!’

’Damn it!’

’This was the first ti anyone had ever dared to question him—to question his sincerity!’

’He was just trying to help her, purely and sincerely!’

Leona Grant’s face was livid, his body tensing as he gripped her arm. "Annabelle Linton, what heinous cri did I commit to make you despise so much? Do you have to keep fighting like this?"

Annabelle Linton sneered. "What, angry already? This is nothing compared to the humiliation you put through."

Once the words began to spill out, they couldn’t be stopped.

"’It’ll leave a scar?’" She held out both her hands, the various cuts and nicks standing out starkly. "In the two years we’ve been married, I’ve gone from a pampered young lady who’d never done a day of housework to a housewife who could cook a full al with her eyes closed. Have you ever once truly seen what I’ve sacrificed for you?"

"You don’t love , and I don’t bla you. You can’t return my love, and I don’t bla you for that either. But I’m begging you to stop acting. The person you’re pretending to be right now... that’s the man I used to dream of. And now, this act just serves as a constant reminder of how stupid I was, how hopelessly I was deluding myself!"

’In her past life, to please him, she had transford herself from a young lady skilled only in dicine to a woman who was proficient in everything.’

’Mastering the piano, perfecting her culinary skills, her dance, her smile... she had even deliberately practiced the way she ate, right down to the number of tis she chewed.’

’How pathetic... At this mont, her heart ached for the version of herself that had endured so much injustice.’

As Annabelle Linton spoke, her face remained impassive.

From the force of her clenched fist, the cut on her hand began to bleed again.

DRIP. DRIP.

Their eyes t, and all Leona Grant felt was a profound coldness.

So cold.

Her eyes were so cold, as sharp as blades.

In that hazy mont, he thought he could see a figure from the past—a figure that had been so diligent, so self-effacing.

Annabelle Linton coolly brushed his hand away, grabbed a couple of tissues to wipe the blood from her hand, then took out a bandage and applied it simply. She then stood up and walked toward the dining room.

’From now on, she would live for herself. That heart-wrenching past would only be a catalyst to make her stronger.’

Leona Grant watched her walk away, slowly realizing that ever since she had woken up, the things he saw most were her back and that cold, detached face.

So cold.

So rciless.

He stood rigidly in place for a mont, then finally followed her.

Back in the dining room, Annabelle Linton was already seated. Without sparing him a glance, she was busy putting food on Ashley Grant’s plate.

A faint, gentle smile played on her lips. She looked composed, serene, as if their earlier confrontation had not affected her in the slightest.

She was completely ignoring him.
