Samuel smiled, "We are here to end this war, not joining it."
Jean was a bit disappointed when he heard that. The war will be a breeze for Inver if they can borrow Ryntum's strength.
Alas, stopping a war would be a nice outco as well. Since Ryntum had made it clear about their intention, there was nothing Jean could do. This mayor doesn't seem like soone who can be swayed by words.
"Is there anything I can help you with, Mayor Samuel?" Jean asked.
As he didn't have a chance to get his ideas included in the negotiating term, Jean thought it would be better for him to leave a good impression of himself in front of Samuel.
A friendship with soone of Samuel's stature will help him a lot in the future.
"There is sothing Sir Jean can help with."
"What is it? You can consider it done as long as it was within my power."
"I need to borrow your flag. That's it," said Samuel.
"Flag?" Jean looks at this foreign mayor with a perplexed expression. His face silently expresses the question, 'What do you need a flag for?'
The simple request from Samuel's request left Jean montarily puzzled. However, he was quick to recover. The minister imdiately ordered so of his n to get him Inver's flag.
Once the purple flag got into Samuel's hand, he offered his gratitude to Jean for the swift response to his request.
With the borrowed flag in tow, Samuel led the one hundred soldiers he had brought toward the city gate. The mayor leaves Jean with no explanation whatsoever.
He rely told the war minister to stay here and wait for the result.
Having been treated like an errand boy, Jean was slightly displeased. But he was not in a position where he could complain. The other party ca to Larkish at Inver's request.
In the end, Jean only nodded his head as he watched the Ryntum's soldiers exit the gate. He would make sure to report this to the king.

At the outskirts of Larkish, a contingent of a hundred soldiers leisurely walk toward Inverloch's camp. Their face shows no fear of being attacked.
It's all thanks to the red flag they carry that acts as a deterrent.
Under the banner of Ryntum's flag, none of Inverloch's soldiers has a gut to attack. The flag truly worked like a charm. They simply watched the foreign soldiers pass by them and head straight to the command centre.
On the opposite side, the higher-ups of Inverloch were well aware of foreign soldiers who broke into their camps. Making such a bold move requires confidence and bravery. It inevitably draws so attention.
But because there's no hostility present, Inverloch opts to wait and see.
"Hello, my Inverloch friend. I ca here with a proposition. To whom I can speak?" Samuel went straight to the point, disregarding any pleasantries he was supposed to do.
"What a rude man. Do you think this is your house where you barge in and out as you please? There's sothing called 'formality,'" remarked one of Inverloch's commanders.
From the look on his face, it was evident that this man possessed an uptight personality and rigid ntality. Samuel simply shook his head, silently thinking how challenging it must be to work with soone like that.
Ignoring the man, Samuel repeats his question. "Is there soone with authority I can talk to?"
Since the topic he wants to talk about involves two countries, he needs to discuss it with a person who has power not limited only to the battlefield. Clearly, these commanders won't fit the description.
"You can talk to ." said the sa commander who made a tasteless remark on Samuel.
"No, thanks. This matter extends beyond the scope of your military authority. Just bring a person who is not from the military but has a lot of political power. I know you had soone like this in your camp."
While many in the military do have decision-making abilities, their thought process is a bit different from those who are involved in court politics.
If Samuel were to talk with them, they would certainly not agree.
"Tsk, call Sir Lucas here! There are people from Ryntum who want to talk with him."
The commander was not happy but there's nothing he can do. Chase Samuel and his soldiers away? Ryntum will not like it.
Shortly after called for Alexander Lucas, he arrived at the command centre. Imdiately, he recognized Samuel. After all, the person in front of him made a lot of contributions to Ryntum during their war with Barlia.
As a diplomat who often travels to foreign countries, it is his job to keep an eye on many important figures.
Alexander politely greets Samuel before asking about his purpose. "Mayor Samuel, what is soone of your status doing here?"
"It appears that Mr Lucas recognised who I am."
"How could I not? Your feat during the war with Barlia is praiseworthy."
"I'm truly honoured by your kind words, Mr Lucas. Back to your question, I'm here, on behalf of my king, want to discuss with you the war you are currently in."
When Alexander Lucas heard about Samuel's reason for being in Larkish, he straightened him back. With a frown on his face, the diplomat asked, "What do you an? There's nothing to discuss since this war is unrelated to you guys."
Samuel nods, "That is true. Supposedly, Ryntum shouldn't get involved in the affairs of foreign countries and I assure you, we don't have that kind of hobby either. However, this ti, the Kingdom of Inver has asked for our help."
Alexander's face turns ugly. He had previously confird Ryntum's attitude about this war. Their king had no intention of joining in. So, why change their decision now? Do they want Inverloch to do the heavy lifting for them and simply reap the benefits?
'Did I get a trick? Their king doesn't look like a scheming type of person.'
