Bang!

The heavy iron cell door swung open. In a dimly lit space, two guards stepped inside.

Their unfriendly faces look at the damned man chained inside the cell. Without wasting a second, they seized the man by his arms.

"Get up! Your ti has arrived."

The man in question was dishevelled and pale. He tried to resist but had no strength. Even his legs are too weak to support him properly.

The guards dragged him out of the cell.

They don't even bother to unbound his shackles. Therefore, it rattled with every step he took.

The corridor led to a staircase that spiralled upward, where a faint glimr of sunlight entered the dark place—a light he hadn't seen for so ti.

Due to his eyes getting used to the darkness, the sudden presence of light made him squint and turn his head away.

The three of them continue to climb before finally erging from what he assus is a basent of the governnt building.

The warmth of the day and the noise of the crowd poke his senses all at once.

He winced. For a mont, the world was a blur of colours and shapes.

It took him a few seconds to adjust to the brightness.

As his vision cleared, the first thing he noticed was the sea of faces.

Hundreds, no, thousands of eyes were locked onto him.

The crowd parted, creating a narrow path that allowed the guards to drag him forward to the centre.

His heart sank as his gaze further. There's a towering structure waiting for him.

Although he had never seen a guillotine, the blade glead in the sunlight was enough for his brain to send a warning.

Panic set in and he began to struggle. "No! Please! I promised I wouldn't do it again."

But his pleas fell on deaf ears. It's too late to regret. The king is going to use him as an example for the rest.

He caught sight of a group of civil servants standing together.

Their faces were pale too.

However, they have no intention of stepping up for him and keep watching.

The air grew heavier as the man was dragged onto the wooden platform.

He offered no resistance now but his legs gave out multiple tis along the way, forcing the guards to practically carry him.

The guards forced him to kneel and put his head into the lunette beneath the blade.

They carefully secured the wooden fra around his neck, locking him in place.

The man sobbed quietly. His tears soaked the wood beneath his face.

His voice that begs for rcy had faded into silent despair.

There's no escape from this. He can only lant his fate and his past stupidity.

Before the execution takes place, it is important to announce the cri of this man to the public.

This is to ensure that people won't have a bad perception of their monarch.

Let them have a clear picture of the situation and justification behind this punishnt.

The executioner, who was dressed all in black stepped forward. In his hand was a paper.

"Citizens of Ryntum," the executioner said, "Today, we gather here to uphold justice and ensure the sacredness of our laws."

He pointed to the man, "Before this sentence is carried out, I must present to you the cris of this criminal. The once a trusted servant of the crown, now a traitor to his people."

And so, the executioner begins to briefly tell about this man's past. From his forr position as a governor to the cri he committed.

Throughout the speech, there are many kinds of expression among the crowd.

"May this serve as a lesson to all."

The executioner ended his speech and walked toward the lever.

And then, with a single pull of the lever, the blade fell.

In an instant, blood splattered, painting the wooden platform in red.

The head was severed cleanly from the body.

This is the most traumatised scene the crowd have ever seen to date.

Those who sat in the front row saw every detail.

The impact of seeing a head falling was so strong that so civil servants fainted.

Those who didn't faint feel nauseous and ultimately puke.

Riz look at the chaotic ss below. He feels happy that the execution gives the effect he wants.

Yet, an unfortunate group of people vomiting caused a feeling of regret to surface.

"Maybe it is a bit too much."

In the end, Riz quickly dismissed the thought.

He's not going to do a public execution regularly anyway.

Given enough ti, they will recover from the shock. However, he doesn't think they're in a state where they can continue working.

And so he decided to graciously let them off from work.

As for the administrative operation for today? Just suspend it.

He's the king! He made the decision!

The secretary was surprised. She quickly objected, "Your Majesty, suspend operations? There are many backlogs..."

"Even if you keep working without pause, the work will never end. So, let them rest."

The secretary ultimately acquiesces. "Understood. I'll relay your order."

When the announcent reached the civil servants, their mood slightly recovered. But not so much.

The horrifying scene continued to linger vividly in their minds, replaying over and over.

They need to get away from this place and distract their mind by doing sothing else.

Everyone sort of has the sa thought.

Slowly but collectively, they began walking to get into the building.

They just want to quickly tidy their workspace, take their stuff and go ho.

Within half an hour, the building was nearly empty. Only a few lingered.

Inside Riz's office, the situation was different. He was seated at his desk with a pile of docunts.

"Are you not going ho, Your Majesty?" asked the secretary.

Despite her objection earlier, she was also tempted to leave like everybody else.

"Not yet. Maybe a bit later. I'm going to finish my work first."

"Then, I—"

"Just go ho."
