Without thinking, the two sprinted towards the window at the end of the corridor and looked outside.

The scene outside nearly made one’s heart stop.

"What happened?" Juan Ke, who had run after them, asked because there wasn’t enough room for him to look outside too.

Leng Pan felt the blood in her veins turn colder than ice and almost stop flowing.

Outside, the children who had been running around happily playing on the ice were now screaming for their parents to save them because for so reason, the ice had lted through all the way to the ground and turned into flood water.

It was as if there was another source of heat from the ground that had coordinated with the sun to lt the ice in an instant.

Leng Pan had thought that the ice might lt putting the children in danger, but she had assud that it would lt slowly, giving the adults enough ti to react and take the children to safety.

She had not expected the ice to lt without warning and start drowning the children.

Parents could be seen grabbing the children closest to them and swimming hurriedly towards the building.

Others were shouting together with the children and asking for help because they didn’t know how to swim.

So of the children and adults could be seen sinking into the water with their heads disappearing from view in just a few breathes.

In fact, it felt as if a current was pulling them down.

Those swimming towards the buildings could also be seen struggling to move forward with so abandoning the children they had grabbed.

It was a typical human sense of survival to drop dead weight when in danger to save oneself, but it also revealed the coldness of the human heart.

A mother or a father would abandon their own children when their own lives were threatened.

The children left behind scread for their parents but nothing could be done.

In less than five minutes, the screams stopped and the entire neighborhood beca as quiet as a grave once more.

Unfortunately, the lives that had been swept under the water were countless.

Leng Pan could imagine that the sa scene had been witnessed in many parts of the world with the human population further suffering a blow.

Before she could clear the image of the children screaming and sinking under water, the bodies started surfacing again, but this ti, they were lifeless.

Both children and adults began floating to the surface and a new round of screams began.

This ti it wasn’t the terrified cries of those sinking under water, but the family mbers left behind.

They were mourning their dead relatives who had struggled with them for so many days since the apocalypse started but were robbed of their lives just like that.

Listening to those cries of pain, Leng Pan wondered if she had done the right thing watching everyone perish when she could have helped at least a few.

A single tear fell from her right eye and slid down her cheek before falling to the ground.

It was heartbreaking and even though she wasn’t related to those people, she still couldn’t get the image of those drowning children from her head.

While she was lost in thoughts, she felt a familiar warmth envelop her and chased away the gloomy mood she was sinking into.

"You didn’t have a choice. You have to rember that. In the future, more sacrifices might have to be made. Don’t let it weigh you down.

If you could have saved them, you would have done it. So, stop beating yourself up over strangers." Lu Zhen’s voice ca beside her ear causing her to shiver.

Lu Zhen might sound cold-blooded, but he was thinking clearly and without emotions involved.

He knew all too well how human hearts could be. He didn’t want his wife to get involved with people who might endanger his wife.

They had a bigger mission and attracting attention to themselves at this ti was out of the question.

Lu Zhen turned his wife around and led her out of there.

Juan Ke, who had been ignored from the beginning to the end didn’t say anything and moved aside, pulling Janna, who had also followed them to the window.

Once Lu Zhen had led his wife to the apartnt their other family mbers lived in, Janna finally spoke.

"What happened to Sister Panpan? Why does she look so sad?"

"I guess she witnessed sothing heartbreaking.

Sothing she wanted to help with but couldn’t to protect all of us." Juan Ke replied.

Even though he hadn’t witnessed the scene of the children drowning outside, he had heard the screams too.

He also heard what Lu Zhen said and understood that Leng Pan had not taken action, most likely because of the team.

It was a heavy burden to have the lives of so many people on your conscience.

Unfortunately, they still knew too little about the aliens and traitors and couldn’t act rashly.

He thought that they should train harder to stop putting Leng Pan in such conflicting situations in the future.

"I hope she gets over it. It’s sad to see her looking so down." Janna also heard everything going on outside, but her imagination wasn’t very rich, so she still thought that it was children playing who might have been hurt.

Juan Ke chose not to say more and let the young girl continue in her ignorance.

After what she had been through, it was a miracle she could still remain so innocent and Juan Ke didn’t want to ruin that.

Just as he was thinking about this, Momo ca down the stairs from the upper floor.

"What are you two talking about?" She asked lightly as she didn’t think it was anything important.

"Nothing." Juan Ke replied. He didn’t think it was okay to discuss Leng Pan, so he decided to change the topic.

"Did you also co down for ice?" He asked Momo, who was very obviously heading to the freezer as well.
