Inside the shifting landscape of the Mirror Dinsion, Ethan sat in a deep ditative state. Hours had passed since he went into seclusion and He hadn't eaten a morsel.

His entire focus was centered on a single goal—replacing borrowed energy with his own, learning to harness his life force, his ki.

The Ancient One had already guided him through the basics earlier, explaining the path of channeling internal energy, rather than relying on mystical forces drawn from external dinsions. And now, alone, he was walking that path.

Ethan's eyes opened slowly. He raised one hand and summoned the Shield of the Seraphim.

A glowing red shield flared into existence before him.

He blinked. "Red...?" he muttered under his breath. Previously, the shield had always been golden. Now, with his own energy behind the spell, the color had changed—richer, more intense, and sohow more alive.

He stood up and began testing more spells—runes, bindings, sigils. Each one manifested in vibrant crimson rather than the standard golden hues. The energy was his own now. No longer a channel for borrowed power, Ethan was becoming a true source of magic.

"Interesting..." he whispered.

From behind, a familiar voice echoed through the space. "Congratulations, Carter. You've succeeded."

Ethan turned to see the Ancient One standing a few steps away, her expression calm but proud.

He offered her a light smile. "Didn't think you'd be watching."

"I always observe when soone walks a path few dare to tread," she replied.

A sudden idea struck him. "Mind stepping back a bit?" he asked with a hint of mischief in his voice. "I want to try sothing."

The Ancient One raised a brow, clearly curious, but complied as she stepped back a few paces, "Very well. But don't do anything too reckless."

Ethan smirked, raising both hands to his sides. "Too late for that."

Ethan closed his eyes again. He focused on the raw, unbridled Phoenix Force that simred within him—a power he had learned to control over ti. Slowly, orange flas began to dance around him, growing brighter and more intense with each heartbeat. His concentration deepened as he attempted the unthinkable: to combine his personal life energy with the ferocious, ancient Phoenix Force.

His red aura flared and began to intertwine with the Phoenix's fire.

A thunderous cry echoed through the Mirror Dinsion—the cry of a cosmic bird. The sound reverberated off the dinsion, shaking the very fabric of that realm.

The Ancient One's eyes widened in alarm. "Carter! Stop! That's dangerous!" she shouted as her voice echoing like a warning bell.

But Ethan didn't stop. His body hovered off the ground, flas encircling him like a solar storm. His clothes burned away in seconds, leaving only the enchanted pocket watch around his neck, glowing furiously as it absorbed the surrounding energy.

Alard, the Ancient One's voice reached him, "Carter, stop! Using the Phoenix Force is one thing, but You're combining the Phoenix Force with your own life energy?—it's madness!"

Ethan, lost in his reverie, ignored her warning. The flas surged, burning brighter, pushing her back as she attempted to approach him and rushed forward, but the intensity of the flas forced her back. Even she, with centuries of experience and mastery, couldn't get too close. The force was pushing her away like a wall of fire and will. The heat was overwhelming; even the air shimred with raw intensity.

The force of the combined energies stripped his clothes away in a matter of seconds, leaving him naked except for the omnipresent pocket watch—his Omni-Watch—now glowing and charging at an alarming rate.

anwhile, Ethan found himself elsewhere—floating in what felt like the vacuum of space.

Before his eyes, a gigantic phoenix composed of intermingled gold and red flas appeared. A colossal phoenix of gold and red fla stared him down with its eyes locked onto his soul. There was no hostility in its gaze—only curiosity, and sothing else... recognition.

Ethan raised his hand gently. The phoenix lowered its head, its fiery body pulsing with ancient power. Without warning, it let out a deafening cry and unleashed a wave of flas directly into him.

Yet, rather than causing him harm, the flas seed to rge with him, a sensation of warmth and power flooding his veins. It was as if a part of the Phoenix Force was rging with him—not as a host, but as an equal.

Ethan slowly opened his eyes to discover that he was still in the Mirror Dinsion—the vivid orange and red flas now danced freely around him.

The Ancient One stood a few feet away with her eyes still wide, "Carter... are you alright?" she inquired in a tone filled with concern.

With a re thought, he dismissed the wild flas, restoring calm to the turbulent space.

Ethan then glanced down at himself. Apart from being completely naked, he felt incredible. Stronger. Steadier. Changed.

He laughed lightly. "Aside from the wardrobe malfunction? Never better."

With a simple gesture, new clothes materialized on his body—clean, dark, and comfortable. He looked at his hands, then raised a palm, conjuring Phoenix fire without any effort. The flas obeyed him like they were a part of his very being now—because they were.

The Ancient One stepped closer now that the flas had dimd. "You've done sothing unprecedented," she said cautiously. "You didn't just host the Phoenix Force... you've rged with a fragnt of it. That's not a path ant for mortals, Carter."

Ethan nodded. "I didn't plan on it. I just... wanted to see if it was possible."

She studied him for a long mont. "Be very careful. The Phoenix is not a pet to be tad, nor a power to be hoarded. It is one of the most dangerous entities in the multiverse and is a power that represents life, destruction and rebirth. Even with your... unique resilience, you're treading a fine line."

"I understand," Ethan said. "But it didn't hurt . It didn't resist. It helped ."

"That may be," she replied as her voice beco calm again. "But rember, Carter. The universe is always watching... and it rarely gives without taking in return."

With a final glance, she opened a portal behind her. "Just be careful." And then she stepped through, leaving him alone.

Ethan stared at the now-quiet space. He raised a single hand, conjured the Phoenix flas again, this ti glowing in a deep reddish-orange. They felt stronger, fiercer than before—but entirely his. The rge had worked.

Combining life force with the Phoenix had been reckless—maybe even insane. But he couldn't die, he could adapt, and he could evolve. If he couldn't take risks, then what was the point?

And, more importantly, the Phoenix seed to like him. It had accepted him—gifted him a part of itself which he could nurture, grow, and refine. Now, he wasn't just a host... he was a wielder.

Ethan then began to experint further. He conjured flas that danced in bright reddish-orange hues—stronger, more focused. The reason for his experintation was simple: having learned to harness his own life force, he could combine it with the Phoenix Force to generate a power that was entirely his own.

Then he tested it's power and found it flows through him as naturally as his own life energy.

With this ability, he could channel the Phoenix Force more easily—a tool to not only defend, but also to evolve. He was excited by the endless possibilities that lay ahead.

From his comics knowledge, he knew that Jean Grey, when wielding the full power of the Phoenix Force, could rival the Scarlet Witch.

Now, with a fragnt of that force becoming his own, Ethan could nurture and grow it from within—no longer just a host, but a true wielder. At this pace, he would soon be able to rival, or perhaps even surpass, her power.

Lost in his thoughts, Ethan's eyes flicked to the Omni-Watch dangling from his neck. He noticed its display had surged—it was now charged up to 60 percent. A small, wry smile crossed his face. "Maybe I should call the Phoenix Force my personal battery charger," he joked to himself.

With that thought, Ethan's excitent gave way to a gentle resolve. He would return ho to see Anna and hear what she had discussed with Jean.

Quietly, he opened a portal using the sling ring and stepped back into the real world.

....

A portal shimred open in the middle of the living room as Ethan stepped through, sling ring is still on his fingers.

The scent of popcorn and the low murmur of a TV greeted him, a stark contrast to the cosmic chaos he'd just left behind. It was Sunday, a lazy day, and there on the couch sat Anna and Jean, sprawled out with a bowl of snacks between them. The screen flickered with so mindless sitcom, laughter bubbling from the speakers as the two won glanced up at him.

"Welco ho," Anna said with a stretch.

Jean offered a small wave and her expression softening into a shy smile, Anna then added softly, "Perfect timing. We were just about to pick a new movie."

Ethan smiled back. "Guess I showed up at the right ti, huh?"

Since moving out, the three of them had taken to attending classes at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, a decision born of necessity.

Mutants were still feared in the public eye, and Ethan understood that it would take ti before they could walk freely without judgnt. Until he had enough influence, he figured it was wise to remain close to Xavier's protection and guidance.

As Ethan was about to sit down beside them, he suddenly stopped. His smile faded. His eyes widened as Anna's voice echoed—not from her lips, but from sowhere deeper. 'I wonder if Jean's still nervous about agreeing to share him... She seed okay with it this morning.'

Before he could process it, a floodgate burst open. Thoughts—dozens, hundreds—poured into his skull like a tidal wave, overlapping and clashing in a cacophony of voices.

Anna's thoughts were the loudest at first, full of mories and reflections on her conversation with Jean about... sharing him.

He staggered slightly, grabbing his temple with one hand. Emotions followed—fear, joy, anger—swirling into a chaotic stew that drowned his senses. "What the hell..." Ethan whispered under his breath.

"Ethan?!" Jean shot up, rushing to his side. "What's wrong?"

"Talk to !" Anna added, her expression shifting into panic as they both helped him sit down.

"I—I can hear your thoughts," Ethan said, his breathing uneven. "Yours... and so many others'. It's like soone just blasted my brain open."

Anna's eyes widened before a gasp escaping her. "You're hearing thoughts?" she echoed, exchanging a startled glance with Jean.

Jean's brow furrowed, "That's telepathy," she said, "And empathy too, if you're feeling their emotions."

Ethan nodded as another wave of voices battered his mind—I'm late for work... Did I lock the door?... That movie was terrible...—until sothing shifted.

His brain adapted, the chaos sorting itself into manageable streams, like a radio tuning to a clear frequency. The thoughts didn't stop, but they beca less suffocating, more bearable. He exhaled heavily before slumping back against the couch. "Okay, that's better," he said before rubbing his face. "It's still weird, hearing them all the ti, but I can handle it now."

Anna sat beside him as her hand resting on his knee as she studied him with concern. "How did this even happen?" she asked as her tone laced with curiosity.

"Yeah," Jean chid in before perching on the armrest. "Telepathy doesn't just co out of nowhere. Did sothing happen with the Ancient One?"

Ethan frowned, searching for an answer. "I don't know how the hell I got it," he admitted. Then it clicked, a spark of realization igniting in his chest. "Wait—the Phoenix Force. That's got to be it." He looked between them as the pieces fell into place. "When I fused with a fragnt of it earlier, I figured it'd just boost my flas. But maybe it gave this too—telepathy and empathy. It's the only thing that makes sense."

Anna tilted her head, "So the Phoenix Force just... handed you mind-reading powers?"

"Seems like it," Ethan said with a faint smile tugging at his lips. "I didn't expect it, but I'm not complaining. It's kind of a nice bonus."

Jean leaned forward and her expression shifting to one of practical focus. "If it's telepathy, I can help you control it," she offered. "I've had help from professor on how to control it. It's all about building ntal walls—filtering what you let in."

Ethan t her gaze, "Let's do it," he said before sitting up straighter. Jean guided him through the process—visualizing a barrier, focusing on his own thoughts to anchor himself. It took a few minutes as his brow creasing with effort, but soon the clamor of external voices faded to a blissful silence. He let out a long, relieved breath. "That was chaotic," he said, "Now it's peaceful. Thanks, Jean."

"Anyti," she replied with a small, proud smile breaking through her usual reserve.

Anna leaned back with a playful smirk. "Okay, but seriously—how did you not know you had this coming?" she teased. "You're ssing with cosmic forces, and you're surprised it rewired your brain?"

Ethan chuckled while shaking his head. "Fair point. Guess I should've read the fine print on the Phoenix package."

He then turned to Jean with a teasing smile tugging at his lips. "Well then, Jean Grey... looks like you're officially part of the family now."

Jean blinked. "Huh?"

Then it dawned on her. Her cheeks flushed bright pink.

Anna laughed, nudging Ethan with her elbow. "So you read my mind, huh?"

"I couldn't not know," Ethan said before chuckling. "It was the loudest thought in your head."

Anna mock-pouted. "Now I miss my brief mont with mind-reading powers. No secrets with you anymore."

"Don't worry, Your secret snack stash under the couch is still safe."

He winked at her, then turned to Jean, his tone shifting to sothing lighter, more earnest. "Hey, how about we go on a date tomorrow? After classes at Xavier's. Just you and —and Anna, if she's up for it."

Jean's blush deepened, but she t his gaze with a shy smile breaking through. "I'd like that," she said softly despite the flutter in her chest. "Tomorrow sounds good."

They smiled, the tension finally easing from the room. For a mont, things felt light again—normal, even, despite their extraordinary lives.

...

AN: After reaching for soti a got to know that the phoenix force can grant it's host telepathy, empathy, telekinesis etc. so, I introduced it this way. Hope it sounds reasonable.
