Now reading: Chapter 108: My Wife, My Heart Desire from Roman and Julienne's heart desire, a Romance novel by Midnightstar07.

"Roman," a soft voice floated down, gentle and unhurried, followed by the faint shuffling of slippers padding against the polished marble floor.

Denovan, seated comfortably in an armchair, took the porcelain coffee cup from the maid who had just served him. The rich aroma of the freshly brewed coffee wafted up, but his attention was swiftly stolen by the quiet figure descending the staircase.

"Who’s at the door?" Julie asked, her voice still clouded with sleep, delicate and not yet fully clear. She appeared on the staircase, wrapped in a pale milk-colored sleeping dress that fell softly around her. The early morning light filtering through the tall mansion windows touched her lightly, making her seem ethereal, as if she had accidentally stepped out of a dream.

Denovan’s gaze followed her every step, his coffee cup montarily forgotten as his lips curved into a slow, amused grin. He leaned back, eyes narrowing with playful appraisal, as though he were watching a rare and priceless painting being unveiled.

Lisa, seated across from him, didn’t miss a thing.

With a sharp flick of her eyes, she shot Denovan a look so knowing that it sliced through his grin. She didn’t speak, but her raised brow and slight smirk said everything: You see? She’s a good choice.

Denovan took a slow sip of his coffee, humming in mock thoughtfulness. "Hmmm... quite the morning view, isn’t it, my dear?"

Lisa’s smirk deepened, her fingers tapping rhythmically on the armrest. "Glad you’re catching up, old man. I’ve seen it since day one."

Julie, unaware of the silent comntary, reached the last step and spotted Roman standing by the grand entrance. A soft smile touched her lips. She padded toward him with a calmness that made everything else in the room dim in comparison. Stopping a few steps away, she dipped into a graceful bow.

"Good morning," she greeted, her tone polite, soft, yet inherently warm.

Roman’s expression didn’t change much, but his eyes told a different story. They softened, a rare gleam flickering as his hand reached out, almost instinctively, to gently guide Julie closer to his side.

She obeyed without resistance, standing beside him with a serene composure, her hand lightly resting on his sleeve.

""Grandfather," Roman said, his voice steady but carrying an unusual softness, "Allow to introduce you to Julienne."

He gave Julie a brief glance, his lips curving ever so slightly before finishing, "My wife... and the desire of my heart."

Julie’s cheeks flushed a delicate pink at the weight of those words, but she didn’t falter. She stepped forward and dipped into a graceful bow, her tone gentle, "It’s a pleasure to et you, Grandfather."

Denovan blinked, montarily thrown off by Roman’s rare sentintality. But the surprise was quickly replaced with a broad, warm grin. He set his cup aside, stood up, and strode over with the elegance of a man who knew exactly how rare this introduction was.

"So, you’re the one who lted the stone," Denovan remarked, his eyes twinkling with mischief as he extended his hand. "Welco to the madness, my dear. I see my grandson has good taste, after all."

Denovan let out a low whistle, shaking his head in mock disbelief. "Roman, my boy, where did you manage to find this gem? I’m beginning to suspect you raided a royal palace and forgot to send us the souvenir photos."

Roman’s lips barely twitched, but his eyes glinted, betraying his amusent.

Lisa, however, was already reaching for a throw pillow.

"Careful, Denovan," she warned sweetly. "You’re treading dangerously close to sounding like an idiot again."

Before Denovan could reply, the maid, Anna, stepped in, bowing politely.

"Madam, Sir, breakfast has been reheated and is ready to be served in the dining hall."

Roman gave a short nod. "We’ll be there."

He then turned his attention to Julie, his hand resting gently against her lower back as he guided her towards the dining hall.

"Co," he murmured, his voice so low it was almost private. "Breakfast awaits, Mrs. Thompson."

Julie looked up at him, still drowsy but smiling softly. The warmth of his touch was enough to steady her steps as they walked side by side. Denovan, watching them retreat, exhaled a long, exaggerated sigh.

"Lisa, you were right."

Lisa’s eyes sparkled with triumph as she folded her arms. "I usually am. What took you so long to admit it?"

Denovan chuckled. "I suppose it takes a little ti to process such elegance this early in the morning."

As Roman and Julie entered the expansive dining hall, Anna was already arranging the final touches on the table. The aroma of freshly baked bread, rich butter, and delicately brewed tea filled the air. Roman pulled out a chair for Julie, guiding her to sit before taking his own seat beside her.

Julie, still adjusting to the mansion’s rhythm, blinked in slight surprise at the formality.

"You don’t have to be so formal, Roman," she whispered.

Roman leaned slightly closer, his voice tinged with a teasing edge. "In this house, you’re the lady. Get used to it."

Julie’s cheeks tinged with a faint blush, which did not go unnoticed by Lisa, who was now entering the dining hall with Denovan, both observing the couple with interest.

Denovan, always ready for a quip, muttered to Lisa, "See that? The girl even makes Roman look human in the mornings."

Lisa smirked. "That’s called a woman’s touch. You wouldn’t understand."

Denovan shot her an offended look. "Oh, I understand plenty. I married you, didn’t I?"

Lisa pretended to mull it over. "You did. Best decision you ever made. Second best was keeping quiet after."

Denovan barked a laugh as he sat down across from Roman and Julie. The family atmosphere was light, teasing, yet filled with unspoken bonds.

As Anna served the breakfast, Julie instinctively murmured a thank you, bowing her head slightly. The gesture, though small, made Lisa’s heart warm with pride.

"She has manners, Roman. Keep her," Lisa said with mock seriousness.

Roman didn’t respond verbally, but the subtle upward curve of his lips spoke volus.

Julie, feeling the attention on her, glanced shyly at Lisa. "Mrs. Thompson, I hope I didn’t intrude this morning."

Lisa waved it off. "Nonsense. You woke up at the perfect ti. Any later and Denovan would’ve finished all the croissants."

Denovan raised his coffee in a mock toast. "Guilty as charged."

The table filled with soft laughter as breakfast began. Roman, true to form, remained mostly silent, though his hand occasionally brushed Julie’s whenever she reached for sothing, a quiet but intimate exchange that didn’t go unnoticed.

Denovan, watching them, leaned slightly toward Lisa and whispered, "Tell again how you saw this match coming? Because I’m starting to think you have a crystal ball hidden sowhere."

Lisa smirked. "I don’t need a crystal ball, dear. I have eyes."

As breakfast continued, Denovan couldn’t resist adding one final jab, leaning toward Julie with a playful gleam in his eye.

"Julie, if Roman ever gives you trouble, you just co to . I’ll sort him out for you."

Roman, calm as ever, responded without looking up. "You can try, Uncle."

Denovan laughed heartily, raising his cup again. "See? He’s already defensive. That ans he knows I’m right."

Julie giggled, her laughter soft but infectious. The breakfast, simple as it was, beca a mont of ease, filled with playful banter and the quiet strengthening of bonds.

As the al ca to an end, Lisa, ever the scher, leaned back with a satisfied sigh.

"Alright, Roman. You can take her for now. But bring her back before lunch. I’ve got plans for her."

Julie looked up, curious. "Plans?"

Lisa’s smile turned mischievous. "Don’t worry. It involves cake, tea, and a very, very nosy photo album."

Denovan chuckled. "Be warned, Julie. Lisa’s photo albums are legendary traps."

Julie laughed, glancing at Roman who rely stood, offering her his hand.

"Co. Let’s escape while we can."

And with that, he guided her out of the dining hall, his touch firm yet gentle, as Denovan and Lisa watched them go, exchanging satisfied glances like two master matchmakers who had just sealed a perfect deal.

Julie placed her hand in his, and with a subtle smile, Roman guided her out of the dining hall.

Denovan and Lisa watched them go, sharing a knowing glance—the kind only true matchmakers wore when they knew their work was done to perfection.

Denovan exhaled in content. "Well, Lisa, you were right."

Lisa leaned back, victorious. "I always am."
