Now reading: Chapter 2: I’ve been alone as long as I remember from Roman and Julienne's heart desire, a Romance novel by Midnightstar07.

In the private hospital ward, a man sat on the couch, away from the bed, staring at the person laying peacefully and breathing slowly. Roman’s phone rang, breaking the silence. He stood up, walked to the window, and answered with a deep, commanding voice, "Speak."

"Sir, your grandmother was worried and tried calling you, but you didn’t pick up. So She asked to reach out to you," his assistant said hastily.

Roman’s response was curt. "Tell her sothing urgent ca up. I’ll see her when I’m done here." He hung up without waiting for a response.

As he turned back to the bed, his eyes darkened, lost in thought. mories of the past two hours flooded his mind – canceling his engagent in front of his family and friends, driving away in a fury, and then the accident. Julie had jumped out of nowhere, and he’d ended up crashing into her.

Julie stirred, her voice barely above a whisper. "Don’t...don’t disown , please."

Roman’s frown deepened. Why would she say that? He didn’t respond, instead watching as she slowly ca to. Her eyelashes fluttered, and her eyes opened, locking onto his.

"You’re awake," Roman said, his voice low and even.

Julie’s gaze drifted around the room, taking in her surroundings. Her eyes were still hazy, but as they t Roman’s, she felt a jolt. He was stunningly handso, but there was sothing intense about him, sothing that made her feel uneasy.

"Who are you?" Julie asked after a minute, her voice barely above a whisper.

Roman’s response was enigmatic. "A male figure."

Julie’s eyes narrowed, unsure how to respond. "How did I get to the hospital?" she asked instead.

Roman’s expression turned cold. "You don’t rember what happened on the street?" His tone was accusatory, and Julie felt a surge of defensiveness.

As she tried to sit up, a sharp pain shot through her head, and she fell back onto the pillow with a wince. Roman rushed to her side.

"Are you alright?" he asked, his voice softer now.

Julie held her temple, wincing in pain. "What are you talking about?" she asked, confusion etched on her face.

Roman’s expression darkened, but then he seed to collect himself. "Never mind," he muttered under his breath, taking a deep breath to calm down.

"Let’s get the doctor," Roman said, pressing the button beside her bed, a task he should have done as soon as she woke up.

Two minutes later, a doctor walked in with a nurse. "You’re awake," the doctor said, approaching the bed. After checking her pulse and making so observations, he left, asking Roman to follow him.

"Is she the girl you hit?" Harry, the doctor, asked Roman in the hallway.

Roman nodded, and Harry continued, "She’s doing well, but she needs to be taken care of. If the wound on her head isn’t properly cared for, it may open up again."

Harry’s expression turned serious. "Roman, what were you thinking, driving recklessly like that? And congratulations on your engagent, by the way. Sorry I missed it."

Roman raised an eyebrow. "Quit it, Harry. You know I canceled the engagent."

Harry chuckled. "Of course, I knew. It’s the hottest gossip in town. But seriously, Roman, what happened? You’re not usually reckless behind the wheel."

Roman shrugged. "She just appeared out of nowhere. I didn’t have ti to react."

The two friends chatted for a few minutes before Harry excused himself. "I need to check on my other patients. Let’s catch up later."

Roman returned to the luxurious hospital ward, which resembled an exquisite room in a palace. The room was elegantly decorated in various shades of white, including the plastic wall-mounted television.

Roman sat down on the chair beside Julie’s bed and picked up his phone. "Tell your parents’ phone number," he said, ready to dial.

Julie’s eyes welled up with tears as she thought about her past. "I don’t have their number," she said, her voice heavy with emotion.

Roman’s eyes narrowed, his expression unreadable. "What do you an you don’t have their number?" he asked, his voice low and even.

Julie’s eyes dropped, and she fidgeted with the hospital sheets. "I just don’t, okay?" she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Roman’s gaze lingered on her, as if trying to read her thoughts. After a mont, he nodded and stood up. "I’ll get soone to help you contact them," he said, his voice softer now.

Julie’s eyes flashed up to his, a spark of determination in her expression. "No, I don’t want your help," she said, her voice firm.

Roman’s eyebrows rose, surprise etched on his face. "Why not?" he asked, his tone slightly curious but keep a black expression.

Julie’s gaze dropped, and she whispered, "I don’t have a ho. I don’t have anyone to contact."

The room fell silent, the only sound the soft beeping of the machines. Roman’s expression changed, a flicker of surprise and curiosity crossing his face and He took a step closer to Julie, his eyes locked on hers. "What do you an?" he asked, his voice low and gentle.

Julie’s eyes welled up with tears as she looked away from Roman. "I an, I’m alone," she said, her voice cracking. "I don’t have a family, no ho, no one to take care of ."

Roman’s expression softened, and he took another step closer to Julie. "What happened to your family?" he asked, his voice gentle.

Julie shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "I don’t know," she lied. "I’ve been on my own for as long as I can rember."

Taking a step closer he held himself back from consoling her he never console anyone so he don’t actually know what to say or tell.

’She looked pitiful and helpless’ Roman said in his mind looking at her pitifully.

Roman looked at with a frown ’Why is she crying since she said it as long as she rembers’ but he didn’t say anything.

Julie don’t know what to do if not to lie she don’t know what to do no where to go so her choice is only to lie and wait to be discharged from the hospital and before that she will think about how she will live.

Roman’s eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched in a mixture of anger and compassion. He looked like he wanted to say sothing, but instead, he just nodded and sat down in the chair beside Julie’s bed.

They sat in silence for a mont, the only sound the soft beeping of the machines. Then, Roman spoke up. "You can’t stay here forever," he said. "You need to have a place to go, people to take care of you."

Julie looked at him warily. "What are you saying?" she asked.

Roman’s eyes locked on hers. "I’m saying that you can co with ," he said. "I have a place you can stay for so ti,"

Julie’s eyes widened in surprise. "Why would you do that?" she asked.

Roman’s expression was unreadable. "Let’s just say I have my reasons," he said.
