"Mom, I’m leaving, but before I leave, I want to talk to you because you and Dad seem to have forgotten about sothing," Rachel said cautiously.
Hearing her daughter, Cassandra frowned, but soon gasped before Rachel could say anything. She stood up and ran upstairs to her bedroom to inform her husband. Before she could open the door, it swung open, and she bumped into her husband. Before he could say anything, Cassandra quickly shook off her shock.
"We’re in trouble," Cassandra exclaid, her voice laced with worry. "Did you forget about Logan’s family?" Cassandra asked, looking at her husband, who remained silent. She quickly added the most troubling aspect: "the engagent."
"Oh my, what are we going to do now?" Lewis asked, his face etched with concern. Rachel watched her parents curiously as they contemplated their next move.
"Let’s just go to their house, apologize, and explain what happened," Cassandra suggested.
"No," Lewis said imdiately after Cassandra stopped talking. "We can’t do that. You know we should do sothing. We should not go there empty-handed, you know," Lewis said, looking worried about what was happening, as if he was going to lose sothing big.
"So, what are we going to do? Wait, why are you looking so worried?" Cassandra asked, raising an eyebrow as she looked at her husband. Cassandra had lived long enough to know that sothing was wrong with her husband.
"There’s nothing," Lewis replied. "I just think it won’t be respectful to go like that without giving compensation to them, you know," Lewis said with a tight smile.
"Oh, seriously, co on," Cassandra said. "You shouldn’t be hiding anything from , okay? Just tell ."
"Hmm," Lewis murmured, closing his eyes before opening them to look at his wife. Cassandra looked at him with reassuring eyes. Taking a deep breath, Lewis revealed, "Logan’s family will invest in our company."
Lewis explained, revealing what the Logans had promised him if he gave his daughter to their son. Looking at the concerned expressions on his wife’s and daughter’s faces, which gave him the go-ahead, Lewis continued, "It’s like this: after giving them Julie’s hand in marriage to their son, they will invest in my company, you know."
Lewis’s voice sounded happy at the prospect of the Logan family becoming one of his shareholders. What kind of father would do such a thing to his daughter? It was almost like selling her to secure the family’s investnt in his company. Could anyone imagine that?
"Oh, that’s good," Cassandra said, "but unfortunately, the beach ruined everything for you, didn’t it?" Cassandra placed her hand on her husband’s back.
"Yes," Lewis replied, "that’s why I was saying we shouldn’t go like that. After promising such a thing, I seriously don’t want to lose such a favor, you know. And now we’re going to lose such an opportunity," Cassandra said, shaking her head.
Rachel looked at her parents, a faint smile on her face. This was all she needed now to be sothing they would take as compensation.
"Mom, Dad, what are we going to do now?" Rachel asked, her expression concerned.
"How can I help you, Mom, Dad?" Rachel offered. "You should tell if there’s sothing I can do for you." Rachel’s eyebrows seed to hug each other, and her eyes looked at her parents with warmth and worry.
"Are you willing to help us, dear?" Lewis asked, anticipation in his voice.
"Yes, Father, what is it?" Rachel asked, her voice obedient, as she moved forward on the couch and rested her elbows on her lap.
"Rachel, I know you’re my obedient daughter," Lewis said. "Please, do a favor." Lewis’s voice sounded almost like a plea.
