The cars arrived in front of the gate and stopped one by one.
First, the three vehicles were led by Biaozi, Scar’s subordinate, making up the "Militia" convoy. They were fifteen people strong, the largest of the groups on this mission.
In second place was the squad of adult n, numbering only five, whose vehicles were sandwiched between those of the militia at the front and back.
Bringing up the rear was naturally the Survivor Squad. Though they only had one more person than Team 2, their overall strength was the greatest among the convoys.
Luo Yi had started leading the soldiers in removing the obstacles that had been set up in front of the sports facility. As the barriers were progressively cleared, the long-closed towering iron gate was finally, slowly opened by the collective effort of the n.
With the gate gradually opening, the five eager "steel beasts" roared excitedly.
The rumble echoed through the air above the sports facility.
Sitting in the leading vehicle, Sang Biao slapped the roof with his palm and yelled, "Move out!"
The five vehicles then drove through the gate, but the Survivor Team at the end appeared to be moving suspiciously slowly, as if their vehicle had a malfunction. To be precise, it seed they intentionally lagged behind the other two convoys.
Tang Xiaoquan kept silent, intently watching the vehicles ahead, his fingers repeatedly fidgeting with his bangs.
Undoubtedly, the strange behavior of their convoy was entirely orchestrated by him.
And the reason he did this was quite simple: to avoid Sang Biao’s group!
After all, compared to zombies, human nature is the most terrifying thing in a post-apocalyptic world.
You see, in the base, under the military’s constraints, Scar might restrain his nefarious intentions due to fear.
But in a crisis-filled abandoned city, who could guarantee he wouldn’t stab you in the back?
Therefore, for safety’s sake, Tang Xiaoquan thought it was wise to keep a certain distance from them.
Upon leaving the side road to the facility, the first three vehicles turned left onto the main road heading east.
To adhere to his initial plan, Tang Xiaoquan decisively instructed Old Zhao to "drive to the right" after seeing the other three vehicles disappear at the end of the road.
Old Zhao had no objections to this and imdiately followed the instructions, turning the wheel.
Thus, the three groups parted ways, heading in opposite directions, and Tang Xiaoquan’s heart finally eased.
So far, things were going smoothly. Thankfully, despite leaving the main convoy for safety,
their planned route remained unchanged, which was a stroke of luck.
After all, for the Survivor Team unfamiliar with the roads, leaving the main convoy was not a handicap; they still had enough strength to continue their mission.
But if there was an error in their route, they would be essentially blinded.
According to their pre-arranged plan, the Survivor Team’s destination was not far from the sports facility.
Of course, this was thanks to Yan Hua’s local knowledge. According to him, upon leaving the facility, driving about 8 kiloters west along the main road would lead to a forked alley. There was a small vegetable market there, but due to years of disrepair and chaotic managent, the governnt had designated it for renovation.
However, since a concrete plan had not yet been officially implented, so shop owners continued to operate inside the market out of self-interest. These "persistent" traders were the Survivor Team’s primary targets for this supply search.
Let’s hope the results don’t disappoint, Tang Xiaoquan silently prayed.
Honestly, Tang Xiaoquan wasn’t too sure about Yan Hua’s information.
After all, he’d never been there, and he chose that location for two reasons.
Firstly, the market was close to the sports facility, only 17 or 18 kiloters round trip, allowing them to complete the task within an hour if everything went smoothly.
Secondly, the area was secluded, and being a site designated for governnt reconstruction, it wasn’t likely swarming with zombies.
Considering these factors, the market was set as the Survivor Team’s ultimate destination for this journey.
The urban managent vehicle drove steadily on the road, and the returning Survivors looked joyful.
Nearly two weeks of being cooped up behind high walls had left them filled with pent-up frustration.
Wang Qiang squinted his eyes slightly, enjoying the strong wind on his face, as his flapping garnts drumd like thunder.
The other Survivors remained silent, looking out the windows at the quickly passing cityscape, their hearts as passionate and excited as the scenery.
Soon, Old Zhao in the driver’s seat spotted the forked alley Yan Hua ntioned. Without any hesitation, he drove down it.
As the vehicle turned, the target location gradually ca into view for the Survivors.
Just as Yan Hua described, the alley was indeed secluded, with only a few lonely large trees on either side of the deteriorating asphalt road.
The market was situated midway down the alley. Now it was surrounded by plywood, with a large character for "Demolition" painfully eye-catching, and signs like "Construction Site, Beware of Falling Debris" foretelling its "fate".
But the Survivors didn’t care about this; they weren’t there to witness a demolition.
Old Zhao surveyed the area and finally decided to park at the entrance of the market.
The reasons for his choice could be summarized in two points:
Firstly, using the urban managent vehicle as a gate, it could prevent external zombies from interfering.
Secondly, to prevent a horde of zombies blocking the gate in a rush, making their escape difficult.
Once the vehicle was parked, the Survivors in the rear quickly jumped out.
Since all tasks had been diligently planned beforehand, the Survivor Team’s execution was calm and collected.
According to their plan, Old Zhao would remain with the vehicle, responsible for street vigilance and keeping the vehicle ready so they could escape at the quickest possible mont in the event of an ergency.
The remaining Survivors were assigned critical roles in searching and transporting supplies. Though their numbers were fewer than before, they had to risk it for survival, to maintain a place at the base.
Everything proceeded as the Survivors had cautiously planned. After Tang Xiaoquan briefly reiterated the mission requirents, he finally issued the order to advance into the market...
