Now reading: Chapter 36: Strange Noises from Rotting Land: Survive, a Sci-fi novel by Kiwi 008.

The noise wasn’t loud, but in the dead of night, it was distinctly clear.

Initially, Tang Xiaoquan assud it was caused by Huang Yaru’s discomfort, but after listening closely for a few minutes, the furrows on his forehead deepened.

What on earth was this woman doing? First, there was a "creak," now there’s a "bang bang." Tang Xiaoquan originally wasn’t one for gossip, but as ti went on, he couldn’t help but have so peculiar thoughts arise in his mind.

Could it be that the guy really is fooling around with that person?

Recalling the glances between Du Jian and Huang Yaru that morning, Tang Xiaoquan couldn’t dismiss the possibility.

After a few more minutes of eavesdropping, the noises continued, the frequency unchanging.

Now Tang Xiaoquan was truly puzzled.

To knock on the door to find out or not beca a dilemma for him.

Go, and if Du Huang really is up to that, he’d look like a third wheel.

Don’t go, and letting those noises continue might attract zombies.

Weighing the options, Tang Xiaoquan bit his lip and chose the latter.

After all, compared to pride, staying alive was more important.

"Bang bang bang!" Knocking on the door, Tang Xiaoquan was still a bit embarrassed, so he didn’t knock hard.

"Bang bang bang!" From inside ca the sa knocking sound, echoing with his own.

Really? So lost in themselves?

Surprised, Tang Xiaoquan pressed his ear against the door, intending to hear so movents from inside.

But before his ear could fully touch the door, a large hand suddenly grasped his shoulder without warning...

Goodness, on a dark, windy murder night, this sudden black hand nearly scared Tang Xiaoquan out of his wits.

Instinctively, he jumped back a step, causing his body to slam heavily against the door with a thud.

"Hey, Xiao Tang, what are you doing?"

Still shaken, Tang Xiaoquan saw the large man standing before him, frowning tightly as he looked at him.

Wait, as if realizing sothing, Tang Xiaoquan took a deep breath, thinking to himself:

If the man is here, then what’s Huang Yaru doing in the room?

No ti for contemplation was given, as a collision sound quickly followed, startling him again.

"Yaru!" the man exclaid, his face full of tension as he pulled the blocking Tang Xiaoquan away.

Tang Xiaoquan, with his frail body, couldn’t withstand such force and was pulled forcibly half a ter away like a kite with a broken string.

The door wasn’t locked; the man just twisted it easily open, but unexpectedly, before he could push the door, it was pulled shut from inside.

By now, even a fool would know sothing was wrong inside. The man wasted no ti and put his strength into pushing the door open again, calling out urgently.

"Yaru!"

"Bang, thud, creak."

Three sounds: a door crash, a body falling, a bed board scraping.

Amidst these three sounds, the door finally opened.

The man rushed in first, his eyes quickly scanning the room, slightly relieved to see no one else there.

Then his gaze settled on a black shadow collapsed on the floor, and he imdiately cried out.

"Oh no, Yaru! How are you?"

Seeing his woman fallen, the man hurried forward to help, but just as he was about to reach, a figure blocked his path, holding him back a few steps.

"What are you doing!"

Noticing that it was the stealthy Tang Xiaoquan blocking him, the man naturally saw him as a threat to Huang Yaru.

So without any politeness, his words carried a strong murderous intent.

"Don’t go over, sothing’s not right with her." Frowning deeply, Tang Xiaoquan discreetly pulled out his phone from his pocket.

He turned on the flashlight function, shining its blinding white light onto Huang Yaru, who was lying face up.

Perhaps attracted by the light, the woman slowly lifted her head, and as it rose higher, Du Tang’s faces grew increasingly pale.

"This... how could it be?"

"Hey, what are you two doing ssing around in Yaru’s room?"

At this tense mont, Wang Qiang’s lazy voice disrupted the silence. He brushed past the stunned pair, half-asleep, and stepped forward.

"Damn! Get back here, Qiang!" Recovering, Tang Xiaoquan imdiately yelled out a warning, but it took a few seconds for his brain to command his mouth to make a sound.

And just those few seconds were enough to change many things, like a person’s life.

Huang Yaru suddenly lunged forward, her target being Wang Qiang right in front of her.

However, as she had fallen earlier, she could only lunge with half her body.

Though Wang Qiang instinctively froze upon hearing the cry behind him, in such close proximity, even a fool couldn’t miss such a large target.

"Slap!" The collision sound wasn’t very loud.

But as the sound faded, the scene in the center of the room, with its posed human and corpse, was quite... suggestive.

The corpse, Huang Yaru, was kneeling on the ground, while the human, Wang Qiang, stood upright, his face full of complex expressions.

Ti seed to freeze at that mont, everyone staring, mouths partially open.

However, one second later...

"Ah!" A shriek like a slaughtered pig exploded in the room, and Wang Qiang, as if punched hard, collapsed onto the ground.

Ignoring the burning feeling from his backside, he frantically scrambled backward on his legs.

Seeing her prey drifting away, Huang Yaru quickly crawled two steps, grabbing Wang Qiang’s calf, and without hesitation, bit down hard.

A numbing pain shot through his toes, making Wang Qiang feel his soul was about to flee his body.

Adrenaline surged in him, multiplying geotrically, as Wang Qiang summoned all his strength to wrench his leg back.

Perhaps his trousers were too slippery, perhaps his fate wasn’t sealed, but he luckily escaped her grasp.

At the sa ti, Huang Yaru sensed sothing was off with the taste in her mouth.

Looking down, she saw it was a mud-covered broken shoe!

"Roar!" With an angry low growl, Huang Yaru fiercely raised her corpse head, her murky eyes driving her to unleash her most primal bloodthirsty instincts...
