Even before the elite undead knights could take a step, the ground suddenly trembled beneath their feet.
RUMBLE!
Zich paused, eyes narrowed. A second tremor ca right after, much stronger than the first.
RUMBLE!!! RUMBLE!!!
The cracked stones around the square moved slightly, and the warm air from the tunnel suddenly beca thicker. He slowly turned his gaze toward the hole again.
For a brief mont, he said nothing. Then his expression beca strange.
"Seems like soone found it already... well, this makes things even easier."
Inside the cavern itself, the situation had already turned terrible.
The Devouring Bone Giant stood at the center of the soul stone channels with red light burning through its ribs. Every ti it moved, the entire cavern trembled.
Helen stood near the left side of the battlefield with flas gathered around both hands.
Her breathing had grown heavier, and sweat slid down the side of her face. She had already launched several attacks, but the giant’s body kept healing after it devoured more soul stones.
"Do not let it reach the pile!" Varok shouted.
The giant Velhari roared and threw himself at the bone giant’s arm.
His massive hands caught the wrist just before it reached another pile of soul stones. Muscles bulged beneath his armor as he tried to hold the arm back.
For one second, it worked, but the Velhari’s expression changed as the bone giant twisted its arm.
CRACK!
The giant Velhari’s armor bent inward, and his body was forced down to one knee.
"Damn it!" he roared.
Jayden rushed in from the side and slashed at the bone giant’s fingers. His sword cut across one joint, but the wound barely went deep enough to matter.
Varok followed imdiately. His spear stabbed into the sa place Jayden had cut.
CLANG!!!
The impact made sparks burst across the bone, causing the joint to crack slightly.
Helen saw the opening and fired a compressed fireball toward it.
BOOM!!!
The flas burst against the joint, forcing the bone giant’s hand back for a mont. The giant Velhari used that mont to roll away before the hand slamd down where he had been kneeling.
BOOOOM!!!
The ground collapsed inward, leaving a crater several ters wide.
The giant Velhari staggered back while coughing blood.
"This thing is ridiculous."
"It keeps healing," Helen said, her voice strained. "Every ti we damage it, the stones fix it."
Varok’s expression beca darker after hearing her words because she had spoken the exact thing everyone was already thinking. Fighting this monster while the soul stones continued feeding it was like trying to empty a river with bare hands.
The Devouring Bone Giant lowered its head again, red light burning inside its chest as another line of soul stones rolled toward the mound. The couriers moved faster now, crawling over broken channels and dead bodies without stopping, each one pushing more stones toward the giant as if their own existence did not matter.
"Cut the channels!" Varok shouted, his spear flashing as he rushed toward one of the stone paths carrying soul stones.
The short Velhari moved at almost the sa ti. His twin blades struck down toward another channel, and the stone cracked apart under his attack, sending several soul stones rolling across the cavern floor.
However, the victory lasted only for a mont.
The broken channel trembled, and several nearby couriers imdiately crawled toward it. They used their own bones to bridge the gap, lying across the broken section while more soul stones rolled over their bodies and continued toward the mound.
Jayden’s face changed after seeing that.
"They are replacing the channels with themselves! These things are troubleso!"
The giant Velhari roared and smashed both fists into a group of couriers, crushing them into white fragnts. But more crawled out from nearby holes, carrying stones, bones, and broken pieces of armor as they repaired the route.
Helen raised both hands and released flas across the nearest line.
FWOOSH!!!
The fire burned through dozens of couriers, but the soul stones continued rolling through the flas, glowing brighter as they passed. So even absorbed part of the heat, turning redder before dropping into the mound.
"This is not working," Helen said, her lips pressed together.
The Devouring Bone Giant reached down again.
Varok’s eyes widened. He rushed forward, spear held with both hands. Jayden followed from the right, while the short Velhari crossed from the left, all three attacking the giant’s fingers before they reached the stones.
CLANG!!! CLANG!!! CLANG!!!
Their attacks landed together, sparks bursting across the massive bones. Several cracks spread over one finger, but before the damage could deepen, the giant swept its other hand across the ground.
BOOOOM!!!
The strike caught all three at once.
Varok blocked with his spear but was still thrown backward, his boots tearing two long marks across the stone before he crashed into a pillar. Jayden rolled across the ground, blood spraying from his mouth as his body struck the side of a broken channel.
The short Velhari twisted midair and landed on one knee, but his arm hung loosely afterward, clearly injured.
The Devouring Bone Giant grabbed another handful of soul stones.
CRUNCH!!! CRUNCH!!!
The cracks across its fingers closed at a visible speed.
The giant Velhari cursed loudly and charged again, trying to tackle the monster’s leg. His shoulder slamd into the thick bone with enough force to shake the cavern floor and make the Bone Giant stagger slightly.
The giant Velhari grinned through blood. "Fucking bastard!" he roared triumphantly.
But then the Devouring Bone Giant lifted one foot and kicked him directly in the chest.
BOOOOM!!!
The giant Velhari flew backward and smashed into the cavern wall. Cracks spread behind him in a wide circle, and his body dropped heavily to the ground, armor dented inward.
He tried to stand, only to realize that his arm was half destroyed. The joints in his knees exploded with a loud crack, and he was forced back to the ground.
"Damn... it," he growled, blood pouring from his mouth.
Helen’s eyes trembled when see saw that the front line had collapsed!
Varok forced himself up using his spear. His face was pale, but his golden eyes were still fixed on the bone giant.
"Retreat toward the upper tunnel," he said hoarsely. "We cannot win here."
