"Please give us your tickets."
The bouncer at the gate didn’t even look Verso in the eye as he spoke.
He stood like a stone wall, blocking the entrance to the Erald Auction House almost intentionally targeting the kids because of their clothes.
Verso looked down at his hoodie and then back at the massive erald sign.
’I knew they wouldn’t just let in...’ He thought, a sigh already forming.
Just as he was about to explain himself, a panicked voice cut through the noise of the crowd.
"Young Master Han! We have been looking everywhere for you!"
A man wearing a sharp black suit and gold rimd glasses sprinted over, nearly tripping over his own feet.
He completely ignored the bouncers and skidded to a stop in front of the green haired boy standing next to Verso.
"Please co, we have prepared the private room as you requested!" the man yelped, bowing so low his forehead almost touched his knees.
Verso’s eyes widened. He stared at the side of Han’s head, the realization hitting him like a physical blow.
’He’s not just any idiot. He’s an idiot with a background.’
"Don’t worry." Han said, casually throwing a heavy arm over Verso’s shoulder.
He looked at the bowing man with a big smile as if he had so good news to give him.
"Another disciple will be joining us on this gathering. He is a fellow seeker of the path!"
The man in the suit glanced at Verso with his eyes narrowed, scanning the cheap fabric of Verso’s hoodie and his worn out trousers.
For a split second, his face showed pure disdain but he quickly masked it with a professional nod as he answered his master.
"Yes sir, as you wish."
The man turned to the bouncer and flashed a gold color VIP card.
Seeing the card, the bouncer’s posture straightened instantly as he stepped aside, clearing the path for the group.
As they walked through the main hall, the shock only intensified for Verso.
Countless well dressed n who looked like they owned half the city literally stopped what they were doing to bow toward Han.
It did not just look like a polite gesture from their side but instead looked like it was their way of showing respect.
’Is he an elite?’
Verso couldn’t wrap his head around it.
According to Han’s weird dialogue, he was here to take the sa exam as Verso tomorrow.
But the way he was being treated by the auction staff made it clear he was a way bigger deal than he had thought. Not even Xavier, who was part of the most elite family from ridian got this much recognition.
They reached a set of double doors guarded by two more suited n and Han’s butler signaled for Han to enter first.
As Han stepped through the doors and entered the luxury private suite, the butler moved with surprising speed and blocked the doorway, stopping Verso in his tracks.
The butler leaned in, his glasses glinting under the hall lights.
"If you are another assassin sent by the clans, you better count your days." He whispered, his voice as cold as a block of ice.
Verso’s heart skipped a beat but even before he could process the threat or explain how he was here just to sell so of his summons, Han’s voice drifted out from the room.
"Hmm? Where have you gone, Brother?"
Hearing the voice, the butler’s deanor flipped instantly.
He pulled back, the murderous intent vanishing as he opened the door wide with a polite bow.
"Please enter."
Verso walked in slowly, a feeling of impending doom settling in his gut.
’What the fuck did I just get myself into?’
He just wanted to make a few credits to buy a al and maybe a cheeky new summon.
And now, he was being threatened with his life by a butler of so high ranking family.
"Esteed brother, you have yet to reveal your na to ."
Han was sitting on a plush velvet sofa, looking at Verso with an innocent smile almost excited to hear his na.
"Uh, I am Verso. I’m from ridian City."
Han tilted his head, his green hair ssy and unkept despite his status.
"Brother Verso... do you not bear any clan surna?"
"A clan surna?"
Realization finally dawned on Verso. In this world, the surna was everything. If you did not have a clan na, you didn’t exist in the eyes of the elite.
He finally understood that this kid he was talking to was not so child from an elite legacy family but instead he was most likely from one of the Great Clans.
Verso debated lying for a second.
He could make up so clever lie, but then he rembered the butler’s cold eyes and the assassin threat.
If they did a background check, which they definitely would, this lie could get him killed.
"No." Verso said with a small shrug, trying to look as unthreatening as possible.
"I’m just a normal guy. Not a part of any clan."
Han’s expression shifted. He didn’t look disappointed or disgusted.
Instead, his eyes lit up with a happy and surprised glow.
"By the heavens... Brother Verso is my first humble peasant friend!"
The excitent in his voice was very obvious. It was almost as if Verso was exactly the type of person that Han was looking for.
Verso’s eyes twitched seeing his reaction. He had wished that Han would lose interest in him and let him walk away but what he got was completely different.
’Why do I always find such characters...’
