As Damon left the auction house, two won walked over and asked the clerk curiously. "What happened, Hila? Why are you so nervous?"
The clerk, Hila, looked up, visibly pale beneath the magical glow of the auction hall’s interface panels. His usually smooth, rchant-trained smile was nowhere to be found. He glanced toward the retreating figure of Damon and then back at the two won, both dressed in fine robes, marked with the emblem of the auction house.
"That guy who just left," he whispered, leaning forward, "he put up a legendary grade treasure chest for auction."
"What?" The two won gasped in unison. "What? Are you serious? That guy? Impossible. He looks like a beggar. How could soone like that co across a legendary treasure chest? Don’t be stupid."
Hila swallowed hard, his fingers still trembling as they hovered over the glowing console. "Fine. Whatever. I don’t have ti to talk to you both now. You can see for yourself when the auction is set up."
The two won frowned, not saying a word as they silently observed Hila. After a while, he took out the treasure chest again to transfer it to the main auction inventory. It was only for a second, but the two won’s eyes went wide as they noticed the glow of the treasure chest.
Their chests rose up and down as they started panting. It was really a legendary grade item! A legendary grade item! How could sothing like that have suddenly shown up in their auction house?
Their mouth beca dry as they stared dumbfoundedly at Hila. "What? You both believe now?" The clerk sneered and left the two gawking at him. He quickly stood up and walked away to take care of the other procedures.
The two won could only stare at him enviously. A single commission from a sale like this could set soone up for life. Even though the auction house took 15% of the sale proceeds, Hila would still get 5% as a reward.
The older woman finally broke the silence, muttering under her breath, "That bastard’s going to be swimming in gold..." Her eyes were still glued to the spot where the chest had been for a re heartbeat. "Why does soone like him get this lucky?"
The younger one nodded and silently walked away. She was also extrely envious of Hila, but she had other connections that mattered more. She quickly opened up her system interface and started ssaging.
Promptly, another reply ca back. "What honey? Are you missing already? Ten hours was not enough to satisfy your appetite?"
The woman’s face turned beet red. But she continued ssaging. "Soone just auctioned a legendary grade treasure chest."
The reply didn’t co imdiately. A few tense seconds passed before the tone in the ssages changed completely.
"Where? Which city? Who listed it? What kind of chest? Give all the details."
The woman gulped and filled him in on everything except for the player’s na. The system’s anonymous listing feature made sure Damon’s identity remained hidden, even from insiders.
Then ca another flurry of ssages. "Don’t tell anyone else. I’m coming myself. Keep your eyes on that auction board. If the bid rises or anything weird happens, you report it to first. I’ll make sure you’re rewarded."
The woman smirked slightly and closed her interface, her mind already running through possibilities. With this man personally interested, she’d just vaulted from a low-level staffer to soone who mattered. And all it took was eavesdropping at the right ti.
anwhile, across the city, word began to spread. Like fire catching dry grass, whispers flew from one player to another, from one shady clerk to a guild informant. Rumors of a legendary chest on public auction in a minor city were too crazy to ignore and too tempting not to chase.
Damon had only barely walked out of the auction house when he could already see a lot of movent. He chuckled under his breath as he had already expected sothing like this. "Let the chaos begin."
Ellora was still pouting behind him, displeased about such an aweso treasure being simply auctioned off. Kaelthorn couldn’t seem to care less while Riven simply looked around the city and walked nervously.
Just as the entire city started becoming more and more chaotic, the four of them slipped out of the city. Right after they left, Ellora gasped a little. "My Lord, I can already sense several powerful figures coming into the city. Peak C-rank experts and so even B-rank."
Damon didn’t stop walking. He gave a small nod, his hood still covering most of his face. "Good. Let them co. The more greedy fools show up, the better. They’ll fight each other over the bait, and we can reap all the benefits from the wreckage."
Ellora glanced back, her eyes narrowing as several teleportation lights flashed above the city gates. Riven scratched the back of his head, still a little overwheld. Kaelthorn let out a low whistle. "This is going to turn into a bloodbath."
"It was ant to," Damon replied. "They’ll waste their gold, their spies, and their strength trying to claim sothing that should’ve never been unsealed."
Damon still vividly rembered the death and destruction this simple-looking thing had unleashed. The ga had barely opened, and there were C-rank and D-rank experts who could even hide themselves from the leaderboard rankings.
This told him many things. These super guilds were full of mystery. They had several trump cards like that mutated wyrm hidden in their arsenal. He should never underestimate them.
Damon knew one thing for sure. They were still not serious about him, which was why he was able to survive and even co out on top in the previous exchange. But even that, he managed to only get out with a soul injury.
If they actually knew what he was capable of, then they wouldn’t simply let him off. This move from him was not just for revenge to knock them all down a peg.
It was also to turn their attention to sothing else. He needed so ti to repair his soul, and this gave him that opportunity.
And most importantly, it would drag these hidden monsters from the shadows and bring them front and center for all to see. It was easy to hide and fight from the darkness. What would happen once they were all forcibly dragged to the spotlight?
Damon wanted to see for once and for all just how powerful these damned super guilds were. He might as well see it while eating popcorn and watching them all burn down to crisp. He couldn’t help but feel a little excited for the days to co.
But all that was only after his soul was fixed. He let out a deep breath and adjusted his focus. It was ti to do so good old quest grinding. A soul fix was surely lying at the end of it all, he just needed to get on with the long quest and figure things out now.
"Ellora, here are the new coordinates. Can you make a teleportion circle to the spot?" Ellora nodded and quickly got to work. The next second, a crimson teleportation circle blood in front of them.
