Damon’s [Howl of Terror] tore through the air like a sonic boom laced with malice, flooding the area in a wave of fear-infused energy. Ghost gritted his teeth and in the end resisted the fear effect, not fully succumbing to it like a newbie but the split second gap was all Damon needed.
He instantly arrived behind Ghost, his claws digging deep into the man’s neck. Then without hesitation, he ruthlessly slashed the assassin’s throat, drawing blood energy from the madman himself.
In his final monts, Ghost stared at Damon with a face full of shock and astonishnt as the life drained out of his eyes. His lips moved, trying to speak... but no sound ca out. Only a quiet gurgle of disbelief.
Damon held his gaze the entire ti, watching the light fade from Ghost’s eyes. That sa unstoppable legend, reduced to a bleeding corpse in under thirty seconds. Even the impossible was possible with right skillset!
A couple of seconds later, Ghost’s body went limp and daggers clattered from his hands, both vanishing into shadow before they could even hit the ground. Then a slew of notifications popped up.
[Ding! Bloodline Extraction Initiated]
[Target: A Creature of the Shadows]
[Ding! You have extracted the ability: ’Umbra’s Lesser Shadow Magic’]
[Ding! Notoriety 300]
[Ding! Shadow Affinity 1]
[Ding! You have gained experience points.]
Damon stood motionless, letting the notifications wash over him like a wave. "Umbra?" It was his turn to be shocked. Wasn’t Umbra the na of one of the greater gods? He had co across this na from the lore for one of the quests.
Umbra was the "Shadow Sovereign" whose followers were wiped out in the First Great Catacalysimis Cycle and whose power had been sealed by the golden league of greater gods. This was the only tidbit of information available.
And now Ghost had a skill that was terd Umbra’s Lesser Shadow Magic? Just like Damon that guy might have also unlocked so ancient legacy. Or worse, considering how he was no longer a human being and was classified as a creature of the shadow by the ga system.
Ghost, the rogue everyone thought was just a freakishly skilled player, might’ve been sothing else entirely. A hidden follower? A direct vessel? Or maybe even... a fragnt of Umbra’s will, walking around in player form?
Damon had debated quite a bit about killing Ghost. The guy was a powerful recluse and common sense would call for him to build a strong relationship with him but at the sa ti, soone like Ghost could not be controlled. The guy breathed and lived for himself and only for himself.
Besides he had a feeling Ghost would appreciate this form of treatnt more.
And just like he thought, Damon received a ssage the next second. He had know idea how Ghost managed to bypass the respawn ti but from the looks of it the guy was already out and about.
[Thanks for the lesson mate! You did a favor and showed a flaw. I owe you one, Blood God. Until next ti!]
It was a short ssage and there was a friend invitation attacted to it. He did not probe any of Damon’s secrets and neither did he reveal about any of his.
Damon chuckled. He had guessed it right. This guy’s temperant was weird indeed. Anyone else would have been pissed about getting killed and would have been on and on about getting revenge but Ghost was clearly different.
Damon accepted the friend request without hesitation, a grin tugging at the corner of his lips. Still, the bigger question lingered like smoke in his mind.
Umbra.
Was this the reason why Ghost had completely disappeared in the future?
It looked like overpowered legacies had their own price to pay. If so what price was he going to pay in the future?
Damon took a deep breath and shook it off. There was no point in worrying about possibilities and assumptions. The road to power was in front of him and for now it was all about how far he could walk on that road.
He looked at the dungeon portal in front of him. With [Lesser Shadow Magic] in his grasp, he could potentially grind out a lot more skills and perhaps even improve the proficiency of level of many shadow elent skills.
Without any more hesitation, he stepped into the portal. The plan for the day was to grind so skills, attribute points and mana cores.
anwhile...
Players started spawning one after the other in the local graveyard. The first one to spawn was Aurora. Her erald eyes looked absent-minded as she silently started walking away from the spawn point.
The next one to spawn, Bertram ran behind her, trying to catch up to her. "Aurora, wait!"
Aurora didn’t stop. Her white robes swayed as she walked, silent, graceful, and eerily calm.
"Aurora, please," Bertram called again, panting slightly as he jogged after her. "You know I didn’t expect all of that to happen. I was just... he manipulated the fight. You saw it, right? He used Elias against us. It wasn’t—"
Aurora finally stopped walking. Her back straightened, and for a mont, Bertram thought she would turn around and say sothing.
She didn’t. Instead, she spoke in a cold, quiet voice that seed to echo in the graveyard fog. "We lost because we were arrogant. We lost because he was just that good."
Her hand inexplicably reached her neck and she rubbed the spot where Damon had held her with a slight blush on her cheeks. She once again started absent-mindedly walking away.
"Aurora, what about our guild? What are we doing now? Can you give so sort of statent?" Bertram shouted after her, only to get nothing back.
"Fucking bitch." He muttered angirly under his breath. "Let’s see how long you are acting so arrogant and cocky. Once we get married, the first thing I will do is put you in place. Fucking bitch! I will raw dog you like a cheap whore and throw you to my friends and underlings. You santomonious fake cunt!"
