But even though the black hole had moved so fast, and at such a mont, the reason still seed so clear; it was White avenging.
It was obvious the horned man wasn’t really after him.
He didn’t even seem like he knew that he had asked Leo not to help him, or there would have been a sign of anger in his eyes when he was talking to him, but there was nothing.
"Still, his power..."
Old Grey muttered with creased eyebrows, and in the next mont pulled out a disk, tapping at its center.
It vibrated for a while, then all of a sudden floated from Old Grey’s hands before a holograph appeared, bearing the image of a dark-robed figure.
If White had been here, he would have recognized the man to be none other than the Supre Commander who usually sat at the lead table during the etings.
Ultimate Commander Err.
"Old Grey."
His voice echoed out.
"I don’t think you know what you’ve created, Err."
Old Grey replied.
"Did sothing happen with White?"
The man asked.
"We faced one of the Su Brothers."
"Oh, those Dark rogue rcenaries?"
He asked.
"Yes."
"My squad was able to push them back, but on their leaving, they decided to target White, delivering their ultimate task to try and bring him down with them, deal us damage of so sort, and I didn’t interfere."
He explained, but then paused, saying:
"Can you guess what happened next?"
"I can."
The Supre Commander replied, and Old Grey’s ear perked.
The next words that were uttered, he couldn’t believe.
"At least one of them died."
Err said, and Old Grey froze.
"How did you..."
"I can see his body floating down the Void."
Err said as Old Grey looked down.
The rcenary’s body was still floating down.
"Do you know what this ans, Err? That... thing one-shot a Late Cosmic Rank to death!"
"Even if it wasn’t his own power, I have never seen anyone from the Limitless Family being able to use Limitless Collapse on such a level."
"His comprehension is bordering on the Galaxy level!"
Old Grey claid, but he didn’t get the reaction he wanted from the Supre Commander.
Even if he couldn’t see his face or any features, he still expected a shake of so sort from shock or surprise, but there was none.
"You don’t know what you’re doing."
"On the contrary, Grey."
Err replied.
"We, the Supre Commanders, know perfectly well what we’re doing. Do what you’re told. Anything else, especially with him, is none of your business."
The man made it clear before the holograph disappeared.
The disk moved back into Old Grey’s palm, but then his hand folded around the device, crushing it into pieces.
He turned his head down, seeing the disappearing corpse, and in that mont, the words rang in his head:
__________
"At least I got my power from taking on missions. You, slaves of Humanity Ascension, survive by being dogs to the upper hierarchy of an organization."
__________
Even being at the late stage of the Cosmic Rank, infinitesimally close to the Galaxy Rank—the absolute top of power on Earth, he was still being told so things were none of his business, and he should simply do what he’s told... like an obedient dog.
But then, Old Grey took in a deep breath, his clenched fist relaxing once more.
He opened his eyes, and a dangerous gleam crossed through them.
"Soon..."
He muttered beneath his breath, watching as the tower fully collapsed and they all began returning.
"Very soon..."
____________
"So... how did it go?"
The words resounded through the hall as White appeared in the room.
It was the room where the Supre Commanders were all gathered, but this ti, there were only three people.
"Boring..."
White replied simply.
They had returned from the mission, and apart from one of those rcenaries that he had taken down with a flick, he did more or less nothing else but watch the others destroy the organization.
He had hoped that within the organization, he could find sothing interesting. After all, Humanity Ascension wouldn’t have chosen to destroy them if they did nothing.
But all he found were scripts and scripts of chemical formulas, and so footage of drugs being used on awakeners, forcing them to mutate into weird creatures or lose control of their essence and explode into gore.
Essentially, the Ludwig Company was trying to create a drug to enhance awakeners’ power.
But for the drug to be successful, it required test subjects, and those could only be awakeners.
They were killing a lot of awakeners, sothing that was the lifeline of Earth, and the Ludwigs weren’t taking the warnings from Humanity Ascension to stop.
So they decided to simply destroy them.
That was the reason for the mission, and White didn’t find it interesting at all. It sounded cliché, if anything.
"The leader of the squad left a word about your performance."
The Lead Commander said.
"Don’t tell it was being a troublemaker again?"
He asked.
He had almost blown off the hands of Old Grey with that black hole flick of his. What else could it be again?
"Actually, no. It was a good complint."
A blue-haired commander said, a panel before him. He grinned slightly at it before wiping it away.
"So... does that an my cannon fodder position has been revoked?"
White asked.
"Yes."
The Lead Commander said, and White couldn’t say he expected it, but still he followed.
"And my position as a possible Sergeant has been reinstated?"
"No."
He added, as the light in his eyes dimd.
"Tsk. Not like I had my hopes up."
He said, appearing unbothered.
"Actually, we might have a position for you in Humanity Ascension..."
The Lead Commander said, managing to pique White’s curiosity.
"A position... and what is that?"
"A mber of the EGES."
The Lead Commander voiced out, and White couldn’t say he had heard of that before.
"Okay... so what does EGES an?"
"Elite Galaxial Exploration Squad!"
