Now reading: Chapter 29: Incident at the Cafeteria from SSS Awakening: Starting With Infinite Soul Copy, a Fantasy novel by MPrincelygance.

Silence followed after her question as each student fell into deep thought, White included.

The popular belief of the descent of the Apexialdoom Rift was God’s punishnt.

When you pull up the scene of carnage that has happened in the past, no other words will co to your mind apart from that.

In his past life, White had never debated it, but he also never concerned himself with it.

He was anything but a godly person.

Perhaps, it was better to say he saw life from different viewpoints.

Supernaturals are at war with humans; kill the Supernaturals.

Simple.

That was his past life philosophy, better put, what had been drilled into his head by the United Earth Federation.

"This question..."

The instructor continued, pulling her glasses.

"May look trivial. After all, you all aren’t here to listen to so philosophy question on your first day of class."

"But will you still consider this trivial if I ntioned that 2 billion of humanity’s total loss of 5 billion was lost solely due to one of these beliefs?"

She said, and breath paused.

"When the Apexialdoom Rift appeared, sudden as it was, humanity’s governnt was prepared."

"We Humans were once Apex for a reason, and we used it."

"Underground bunkers lined up with the most powerful destructive forces that even Supernaturals wouldn’t want close were set up all over Earth, yet we still lost so much."

"You know why?"

She asked, and then she looked up to the sky, and the students’ gaze followed.

"Because so foolish humans believed that this was God’s punishnt and that if they simply prayed to God, the Supernaturals would return and leave them alone."

White’s eyes widened in shock, his heart pounding loudly, and he wasn’t the only one.

Up in the sky, the holograph displayed an image:

Bodies and corpses strewn all over the benches and tiles of buildings.

And what was more unnerving was that the majority of the buildings were religious places.

"Instead of taking the governnt advice and retreating to the bunkers, many humans sought solace in religious places, and naturally, when the Supernaturals ca, they were carrots in a farm, simply waiting to be picked up and eaten."

She said, allowing her words to sink in as the students stared up at the corpses and the destroyed religious buildings.

The holograph constantly changed, each scene more disturbing than the last.

White’s heart thudded at first, but soon enough it steadied, and he didn’t react.

After five minutes of endless images of chaos, the holograph disappeared.

"For those who believed this was all just a recurrence of the past, who believed it was simply nature doing what it had done years ago, testing humanity’s capability..."

"Those who see this as a test of evolution for humans to beco greater by subduing their enemies and climbing their way back to the top, like they once had..."

"Their belief led to this..."

What the holograph showed next were corpses, but this ti not the corpses of humans.

The majority of the corpses were those of Supernaturals.

There were images of humans being the only ones left standing on a ruined battlefield, images of large walls being built, keeping the Supernaturals away.

Images of prosperity and power.

"When you start to believe that this is but a repeat of the past, it gives you strength. It opens your mind, and you ask the second question."

"What do I need to do to win? What must be done for Humanity to climb back up to the top of the food chain?"

"Your belief will lead to hope, and where there’s hope, then surely there is a way."

"So, what will you believe, Xybers?"

"That what will co for you soon is God’s punishnt, or a chance to prove to nature that you’re deserving of a new, unfathomable evolution?"

DRIIING

DRIIIING

The runic watch on White’s wrist glowed as he poured out along with the rest of the students.

The class had taken about five straight hours, with the instructor expatriating on the second belief, answering questions, and explaining the ways that had been implented to stop the phenonon.

In a way, it was a class introducing them to what Xtrecyber stood for as a powerhouse.

It wasn’t boring; if anything, it was eye-opening.

There was a new notification on the watch, and it was one he loved.

[You’ve attended the class, hence completing the mission.][You have been rewarded 20 points][Total points: 270]

It flashed.

’Seems like attending classes was another way to get points.’

DRIIIING!

A new notification.

[Head to the Cafeteria.][Location: Cafeteria Hall]

It said.

White wasn’t really sure where that was, but with the aid of his map, he quickly narrowed it down, and it beca easier when the majority of the students were also moving in the sa direction.

Soon, he ca across a building, the first that wasn’t a skyscraper or a long castle.

It was a mini one-floor building made into a restaurant.

There were round seats spread through a wide hall, and White quietly walked to one of them. The second he sat at the table, his runic watch glowed.

[Link Established with Cafeteria.][Choose what dish you would like to be served.]

It said, and he felt amused that he could choose his dish from the screen of his watch.

The als, as expected, weren’t free.

The cheapest al was 2 points, and it was a simple soup.

There were about fifty dishes on the list, the most expensive costing 350 points, more than White had.

In the end, he decided to go for sothing decent, just around 15 points.

The second, he chose what he wanted,

He was given a waiting ti of 2 minutes for the dish to be served, and exactly 1 minute 30 seconds, a lady dressed in purple attire, that of a chef, walked towards him and silently placed the tray on his table.

They were part of the Xtrecyber Academy, though in unofficial roles such as cooking.

According to the rules, laying a hand on them would cost an instant deduction of 50 points.

With his dish before him, White’s stomach growled, and his hand imdiately reached for his soup, digging in.

But digging in was different from eating.

White put his spoon in the thick soup, but before he could return the soup to his mouth, a hand clamped down on it, stopping it inches away from his lips.

"Not so fast... Hero!"
