Now reading: Chapter 21 — The Groom the Sky Desired from SSS-Rank Brides: The Hunter Who Married Dungeon Queens, a Fantasy novel by Didas312.

The sky was still tearing itself apart when the fortress commander burst into Ethan’s quarters without knocking.

"Evacuation order!" the man barked, armor half-fastened, face pale. "All non-combatants to the inner chambers imdiately!"

His voice died the mont he saw Lyssara standing there — barefoot, silver hair drifting in a frost-laced current that did not obey the wind.

And Ethan beside her.

Hand in hand.

The commander swallowed hard.

"...My Queen."

Lyssara didn’t look at him.

Her gaze remained fixed upward, as if stone ceilings ant nothing.

"Seal the lower gates," she said calmly. "Anyone who flees into the open will die before they take ten steps."

"Yes, my Queen!"

He hesitated.

"...What of him?"

His eyes flicked toward Ethan.

Not with disrespect.

With fear.

Everyone in the fortress had felt the resonance.

Humans didn’t glow with sovereign mana unless they were already half legend.

Lyssara answered without pause.

"He stays with ."

The commander bowed so fast his helt nearly slipped.

Then he ran.

Outside, another shockwave rolled across the mountains. The fortress groaned like an old beast refusing to fall.

Ethan exhaled slowly.

"So... two calamities want ."

"Three," Lyssara corrected.

He frowned.

"Ignivar wants to take you."

"Aeralis wants to claim you."

Her eyes lowered slightly.

"And now the world knows you exist."

The system pulsed.

Global Awareness RisingSovereign Interest Expanding

"...That doesn’t sound survivable."

"You are alive because you are mine," she said.

Then, quieter—

"And because you are stronger than you believe."

A thunderclap cracked so violently the windows shattered inward.

Wind roared through the chamber.

Feathers drifted in the gale.

Silver.

Sharp-edged.

Aeralis had descended closer.

Her voice cut through the storm — not shouted, yet heard by every soul within miles.

"Frost Queen... I tire of waiting."

Ignivar laughed sowhere above the clouds, heat flaring so intensely that the frost on the walls hissed into steam.

"Then stop talking and take him, Sky Tyrant."

Lyssara’s aura exploded.

Ice surged outward, sealing the broken windows instantly.

"No one takes what is bound to ."

Ethan squeezed her hand.

"Is there a version of this where nobody tries to abduct ?"

"No."

"Great."

For a mont, the chaos paused.

Then—

A single figure stepped down from the storm.

Not falling.

Walking.

Each step ford a platform of condensed wind beneath her feet.

Aeralis.

Up close, she was less beast than divine execution.

Tall.

Lithe.

Silver-white hair stread endlessly behind her like a banner.

Her wings were partially folded now, but even restrained they radiated lethal elegance — feathers tallic, edges gleaming like drawn blades.

Her eyes found Ethan imdiately.

Gold eting mortal.

And sothing inside his chest tightened.

Not fear.

Recognition.

The system reacted violently.

Sovereign Compatibility Detected

WARNING: Attraction Vector Active

"...Lyssara," Ethan muttered, "tell that notification is a glitch."

Her jaw hardened.

"It is not."

Aeralis landed lightly on the frost-coated stone balcony beyond the sealed window.

The ice parted for her.

Not broken.

Yielded.

Interesting.

Even winter respected the sky.

"Frost Queen," Aeralis said, voice smooth as honed steel. "You hide sothing radiant."

Lyssara stepped forward.

"You trespass."

"I inspect."

Golden eyes returned to Ethan.

He felt suddenly... visible.

As if every flaw and strength had been weighed in an instant.

"You are smaller than I expected," Aeralis said.

"Sorry to disappoint."

The corner of her mouth lifted faintly.

"He speaks without trembling."

"I do a lot of things without trembling."

Ignivar’s molten silhouette shifted above the clouds, watching like an amused god.

Lyssara moved closer to Ethan — not blocking him, but unmistakably claiming space.

"State your purpose and leave."

Aeralis tilted her head slightly.

"You bonded him."

"Yes."

"Without council."

"I require none."

"Selfish."

"Territorial," Lyssara corrected.

The air between them tightened.

Then Aeralis did sothing unexpected.

She stepped closer to the glass.

Closer to Ethan.

And placed her palm lightly against the frost barrier.

Power rippled outward — not forceful, just... undeniable.

The system chid again.

Bride Candidate Resonance Increasing

Passive Bond Invitation Detected

Ethan blinked.

"...She’s flirting."

Lyssara’s temperature dropped another ten degrees.

"She is posturing."

Aeralis spoke again, gaze never leaving Ethan.

"Tell , Groom... did she give you a choice?"

Lyssara’s eyes flashed dangerously.

"He chose."

"I would hear it from him."

Ethan stepped forward before Lyssara could stop him.

"Yeah," he said simply. "I chose."

Aeralis studied him.

Long.

Searching.

Then—

"Good."

The single word carried approval that felt heavier than praise.

"You should know sothing, human," she continued. "Sovereigns do not compete for scraps."

"..forting."

Her wings shifted softly.

"But we do compete for rarity."

Lyssara’s voice sharpened.

"You will not court him."

"Court?" Aeralis echoed, amused. "Is that what you believe this is?"

The sky tyrant leaned slightly closer.

"If I wished to take him... you could not stop ."

Frost scread across the balcony.

"Try," Lyssara said.

For a heartbeat, the world held still.

Wind versus winter.

Altitude versus eternity.

Then—

Ethan stepped between them.

"Okay," he said loudly. "Before this becos a natural disaster — can we talk like semi-reasonable immortals?"

Both sovereigns looked at him.

The pressure should have crushed him.

Instead...

The Dragon Mark burned steady.

He endured.

Aeralis’s gaze sharpened with interest.

"You stand between queens without kneeling."

Lyssara’s voice softened almost imperceptibly.

"He always does."

Ethan rubbed the back of his neck.

"Look — nobody’s kidnapping anyone today. Agreed?"

Ignivar snorted above.

"Boring."

Aeralis ignored him.

Instead, she asked Ethan directly—

"Are you content... belonging to winter alone?"

The system flared violently.

Critical Choice ForeshadowedMultiple Bride Route Potential: Confird

Lyssara went utterly still.

Not angry.

Not panicked.

Waiting.

For his answer.

Ethan t Aeralis’s golden gaze.

Then he said—

"I don’t belong to anyone."

A pause.

Then he intertwined his fingers more firmly with Lyssara’s.

"I choose."

The Frost Queen inhaled slowly.

Not relief.

Sothing deeper.

Aeralis watched the gesture.

And smiled.

Not offended.

Intrigued.

"Then grow quickly, Sovereign Groom," she said softly.

"Because the day will co when your choosing reshapes this world."

Her wings spread.

Stormlight gathered.

"But for now..."

She looked once more at Lyssara.

"Guard him well."

Then her gaze dropped back to Ethan.

"...or I will."

With a single beat of her wings, she rose into the screaming sky.

The storm pulled upward with her.

Ignivar’s laughter faded soon after, molten glow retreating beyond the clouds.

Silence fell.

Heavy.

Unreal.

The crisis...

Had passed.

For now.

Lyssara turned toward Ethan slowly.

"You defied a sky sovereign without hesitation."

"You sound surprised."

"...I am proud."

The words were quiet.

But they ward more than fire ever could.

The system chid gently.

Bond DeepeningDragon Bride Emotional Trust Increased

Far above, the clouds began to close.

Yet Ethan couldn’t shake the feeling that sothing vast had just shifted.

Not a battle.

Not yet.

But a declaration.

The sovereigns had seen him.

Desired him.

Marked him.

He exhaled.

"...I’m going to need a much bigger bed, aren’t I?"

Lyssara stared at him.

Then — unbelievably — a small laugh escaped her.

And for the first ti since the sky broke...

Winter felt almost gentle.
