5th Zone, City A
Jeremy Night and linda rejoined the group near the public square. The two Tier-5 Beast Tars, Frey and Theo, had been strolling around the place earlier.
They didn’t expect the Team Leader, linda, to return so quickly. Upon seeing Jeremy Night, they started looking down on him even more. They assud the Team Leader had rescued the kid.
Jeremy Night ignored their gazes. Instead, he observed the area around him. The public square was always filled with people.
He doubted anyone would appear here, but he also thought about the identities of the suspects. It was possible for criminals to have dual identities.
They were all wearing the uniform of the Red Moon Chamber. He thought the attire would definitely attract attention.
Even if the team weren’t looking for them, he believed the mbers of the illegal gang would definitely be monitoring them.
linda was speaking to her team. No one was looking at him. His gaze turned sharp, and his senses heightened.
Suddenly, he felt a pricking sensation at his back. Soone was watching him with a piercing gaze.
He turned around and casually moved toward the street hawker’s side. He sat down and ordered so noodles. The street hawker was an old man who imdiately started preparing the food.
Frey noticed Jeremy Night. Upon seeing his actions, she said, "Leader, look at him. You are seriously discussing things here, but he sat down to have food."
Theo and the other two Tier-5 Beast Tars saw this as well. The image of Jeremy Night in their minds fell drastically.
linda raised her eyebrows. She knew Jeremy Night wouldn’t do anything without a reason; she had already seen those corpses in the underground tunnel.
In a way, Jeremy had done his work already, so she didn’t take Freya’s words to heart.
"Don’t mind him. It’s his first mission," linda said.
Hearing that, Freya had no words to retort. Theo and the other two Tier-5 Beast Tars beca silent. Though they disliked the newcor, they didn’t have a credible reason to target him.
"Humph," Freya coldly snorted to herself.
The five of them continued their discussion. Although linda was talking seriously about the mission, in her heart, she had decided not to hunt down the criminal mbers anymore.
They had already handed over enough corpses to the city officials. It was proof that they had done their work. The underground tunnel in the park had already been marked as a suspicious place by the officials.
So, while she was putting up an act outside, the other mbers were reacting seriously.
On the other hand, Jeremy received his bowl of noodles. He was happy.
While eating the food, he started paying attention to the gazes around him because the piercing sensation on his back hadn’t left.
Soone was still watching them, specifically, soone was watching him.
At first, he thought soone was watching the group, but then he realized the gaze never left his back. After finishing the food, he paid the hawker and walked up to Senior linda.
"Senior, I’m going back to the organization. I’m feeling unwell," Jeremy said to linda.
This imdiately stunned her.
"This?" linda uttered, confused. She had thought Jeremy would accompany her until the end of the mission.
She then looked at Frey and Theo and understood sothing. These two were insulting him, and Frey was acting particularly rude.
What’s more, she thought, Jeremy Night is still just a young kid. Perhaps he simply didn’t like the team mbers.
"Okay, you can leave. The criminals are Tier-4 Beast Tars; your life would be in danger," linda made an excuse so the team mbers wouldn’t complain.
To her surprise, they agreed.
"Let him go. He will only be a burden to us," one of the Tier-5 Beast Tars said. Since the newcor was leaving voluntarily, they didn’t have to target him anymore.
The third Tier-5 Beast Tar agreed as well, and Theo and Freya were happy. They didn’t expect the newcor to leave on his own.
Jeremy nodded to linda before departing. He was actually headed toward the source of that piercing gaze. The gaze had lingered for so long but had vanished just now. Perhaps, seeing him approaching, the person decided to withdraw.
Jeremy was taking a gamble. If the person truly intended to target the Red Moon Chamber, they would target him because he was the weakest in the team. Whoever it was, they would appear before him soon.
He moved through the crowd before reaching another street. Then, he walked along the footpath slowly, wanting to see if the gaze would reappear.
Not long after, he felt it again. This ti, soone was looking at him from the front. His gaze fell on the path ahead, but he could see residential areas on both sides.
The gaze was coming from above, which ant soone in one of the buildings was watching him.
It was going to be tricky. He couldn’t attack or kill illegal mbers in a residential building. He could only give up for now. However, the information would be useful to Sister linda, so he took out his device and started typing.
After sending the ssage to her, he put his device away and resud walking. He planned to find an aircab soon to return to the organization.
Ten minutes later, just as he thought the gaze would be gone after leaving the residential area, he felt it on his back again. It had never left.
Jeremy understood the person was following him. His earlier theory was right: the person would target the weak link first.
He had yet to find an aircab, so he randomly asked a passerby about any abandoned buildings nearby.
The passerby saw his uniform and, having watched the news online, knew the Governor had commissioned Beast Tars to search the city.
The passerby didn’t hide any details and revealed information about the abandoned buildings in the neighborhood.
Jeremy thanked them. He hadn’t expected them to be so honest, realizing they must have been following the news closely.
