Because that place indeed experiences Insect Race invasions periodically, and during his ti in the Cloud River Realm, he was fortunate enough to partake in one such battle, gaining a large amount of battle rit and exchanging for much Soul Cleansing Water, which he has used ever since.
Previously, he wasn't sure where those invading Insect Races ca from, but if they were from the Insect Race Great Secret Realm, it seed plausible.
As far as he knew, everyone in that place would usually fall into slumber, only awakening when the Insect Race invaded, using a unique Undying Body to engage the Insect Race in battle.
Thus, this portal might not exist all the ti but appears at certain tis. It's not surprising the Nine Provinces cultivator army hadn't discovered it.

What era's Nine Provinces was this? Lu Ye was sowhat perplexed, especially since the environnt was so harsh. If the Nine Provinces had always been like this, not to ntion the group of cultivators, even ordinary people would struggle to exist.
