Though the Buddhist Sect may seem ordinary, Xu Fan knew well enough that if you truly underestimated this seemingly unremarkable mountain, you would end up dead with no place for burial!
A powerful Divine Sense silently emanated from his body, carefully observing. In the high sky, there was evidently a terrifying and dreadful restriction. If any cultivator dared to ascend recklessly, they would surely end up dead with no place for burial!
Similarly, the stone path below, built with rocks, appeared equally ordinary. Yet Xu Fan always felt there was sothing hidden within.
At the mountain gate, there were no pilgrims in sight. Monks inside the temple were in a hurry, their expressions grave, and they did not spare Xu Fan a single glance. When so monks turned their heads, seeing Xu Fan and Yunzhi, their faces would change drastically, hurriedly turning away as if afraid of provoking so disaster.
This scene caused a slight shadow to cast over Xu Fan's heart.
Previously, Xu Fan thought the reason the Buddhist Sect invited him was to obtain sothing from him, such as his Beast Taming Art or the Relic he obtained from the Golden Ape.
But now it seed that Monk Yunzhi's invitation to the Buddhist Sect was purely his own, or perhaps certain individuals', intention! It was not the decision of the entire Buddhist Sect at all!
At this mont, Xu Fan had a clear premonition that the waters of the Buddhist Sect ran deep! One careless move could lead to being subrged and swallowed!
"Please, Benefactor Xu."
"Master, please."
After so polite exchanges, Xu Fan followed behind Monk Yunzhi, striding into the Buddhist Sect, his expression already calm.
If you have co, you should settle down.
In the face of major events, one must remain calm.
The Buddhist Sect might have profound foundations, and their invitation might have impure motives, but so what?
Xu Fan did not fear the entire Taoist community, so why fear the Buddhist Sect? If the Buddhist Sect played by the rules, that would be fine, but if not, Xu Fan wouldn't mind causing a commotion within!
"Greetings, Master."
"Master has returned."
Strangely, countless monks saw Monk Yunzhi bringing Xu Fan along the way, their expressions changing, but so monks greeted him with smiles and directed courteous nods at Xu Fan.
They crossed the plaza and walked through several doors before Monk Yunzhi finally stopped at a hall entrance.
"Benefactor Xu, the old acquaintance is inside this hall."
An old acquaintance?
When Monk Yunzhi invited Xu Fan, he used the pretext of an old acquaintance. Xu Fan initially thought Yunzhi was just talking nonsense, but unexpectedly, after saying so, Yunzhi turned and left without any hesitation.
"Why can't I rember having an association with soone from the Buddhist Sect? Yunzhi brought all this way, only to leave after saying a word?"
Watching Monk Yunzhi's departing figure, Xu Fan's eyes filled with contemplation.
"Forget it, Yunzhi's plans will naturally reveal themselves in the future. Let's see who exactly this old acquaintance is!"
With that thought, Xu Fan withdrew his gaze and turned, striding toward the hall.
The hall was deep, with candles lit despite it being dayti. Around the hall, golden statues of Bodhisattva Vajra stood with angry eyes. The scent of incense filled the air, making one subconsciously want to relax and confide with the Bodhisattva Immortals inside.
The hall's space was vast, yet there were very few prayer mats. In front of a gigantic golden Buddha statue, there was only one prayer mat, and sitting on it was a sowhat familiar figure. They neither struck a wooden fish nor chanted sutras, rely sat quietly, back facing Xu Fan, like a statue.
Tap, tap, tap.
The sound of Xu Fan's footsteps echoed loudly within the silent hall. He instinctively lightened his steps, but the figure on the prayer mat still awoke.
"Benefactor Xu, it's been a while."
A sowhat familiar voice sounded. The figure on the prayer mat turned to reveal a slightly weary face—it was Monk Huitong, whom Xu Fan had t once before in the Huang Family hall!
"Master Huitong!"
Xu Fan had wracked his brains trying to figure out who the so-called old acquaintance was, and upon seeing Monk Huitong, he finally understood!
In the past at the Huang Family hall, Monk Huitong was one of the few strong ones in the Zhiwei Realm, whose will could change the course of a battle! Back then, Monk Huitong chose to stand by Xu Fan.
When leaving the Western World, Monk Huitong had warmly invited Xu Fan to visit the Buddhist Sect when he had the ti. However, Xu Fan had many things to do back then, so much so that he eventually forgot all about it...
And in doing so, he forgot about Monk Huitong entirely...
"Master Huitong, we haven't seen each other in a few days—why do you look so haggard?"
Looking at Monk Huitong's slightly haggard and sowhat apologetic face, Xu Fan's heart was as clear as a mirror, yet he feigned surprise on his face.
Long before, Xu Fan was well aware that the invitation to the Buddhist Sect was definitely not from Huitong!
"Benefactor Xu... alas!"
Monk Huitong had already lost his previous vigor from the Huang Family hall, looking like a tortured man. Seeing Xu Fan, the apology in Huitong's eyes grew deeper, and before he finished speaking, he sighed heavily and fell silent.
"Benefactor Xu, you... shouldn't have co!"
Xu Fan was not surprised by Monk Huitong's words; instead, he felt a slight warmth in his heart.
No matter how ruthless the Taoists and Buddhists were, or how fiercely they contended, one person should not tarnish the reputation of all. Though Xu Fan and Monk Huitong had only t once, Huitong was entirely sincere, even considering matters from Xu Fan's perspective.
"Master Huitong, what exactly happened in the Buddhist Sect?"
Xu Fan's voice was filled with calm, not showing a trace of panic despite Huitong's words.
Having already arrived, considering whether he should have co was utterly aningless!
Rather than living in fear, it was better to understand the Buddhist Sect's upheaval thoroughly and tackle the problem at its root!
"Benefactor Xu, you... already know?"
Seeing Xu Fan's calm deanor and gentle nod, it was evident he was already aware of the Buddhist Sect's turbulence. The apology on Monk Huitong's face transford into a hint of admiration.
Knowing there are tigers on the mountain, yet heading for it, is completely different from fearlessness due to ignorance! It takes more than sheer strength to confront a tiger; unparalleled courage is also needed!
And Xu Fan exemplified the forr!
"Benefactor Xu, the matters of the Buddhist Sect, I originally did not plan to tell you, for once you knew, you would fall into a quagmire and be unable to extricate yourself. But..."
Monk Huitong seed to have made a certain decision, or perhaps he was inspired by Xu Fan's courage. His expression changed from weariness to deep unwillingness, and... anger!
"The upheaval in the Buddhist Sect started with the sect leader's nirvana, with the Buddhist Sect splitting into three factions, each undermining the other."
"But the truth of the leader's nirvana was not an attainnt nirvana, but rather a murder frad by soone!"
