The pungent scent of blood clashed violently with the holy and solemn atmosphere of the Buddhist Sect, accompanied by panicked cries and screams. Even Yunzhi felt an unsettling sense of chaos.
He had just gone to participate in a trial, which took only half a day. Everything was fine when he left, so how had everything unfolded before he even returned?
Yunzhi's complexion changed dramatically, as a terrible premonition arose in his heart. He hurried towards the Buddhist Sect.
From a distance, things were unclear, but upon entering the Buddhist Sect, Yunzhi was stunned at the sight.
Half of the sacred statues had collapsed, as though a massive dragon had brutally wreaked havoc from one end to the other. The structures on both sides remained intact, giving the illusion of a sacred place, but the middle was in ruins.
For so reason, Yunzhi was reminded of the Snowy Mountain Peak, and the masked person who struck Luo the Superior Immortal with a spear.
If that spear had landed within the Buddhist Sect, would the consequences have been equally terrifying?
"Master Yunzhi! You've finally returned!"
"Zen Master! If you had returned any later, the Buddhist Sect might have been gone!"
A group of monks finally caught sight of Yunzhi, and in their frenzy, they seed to have found their pillar of support. They wept and sought solace from the similarly distressed Master Yunzhi.
Yunzhi suppressed his inner turmoil and agitation, sternly asking, "Do not panic! Tell what exactly happened?!"
Yunzhi commanded respect within the Buddhist Sect. Seeing his serious expression, everyone held back their tears and reluctantly spoke through their grief. "Zen Master, a quarter of an hour ago, a man wearing a silver mask suddenly barged in, claiming he missed a target and ca back to take that person's life. The sacred ground of the Buddhist Sect cannot tolerate outsiders speaking nonsense! Several senior monks were furious and attempted to expel the masked man. However, the masked man suddenly acted as an assassin, catching the monks off guard and gravely injuring them."
"The disturbance the masked man caused was imnse. The Buddha hurried over after hearing the commotion, asking who the masked man was and why dared not respect the Buddhist Sect. The masked man coldly laughed and questioned the Buddha's identity within the sect."
"The Buddha was fearless and revealed his identity, but the masked man attacked again, killing the Buddha with one strike and leaving our sect in ruins! Countless disciples suffered heavy casualties!"
"After slaying the Buddha, the masked man laughed loudly, claiming he initially intended to kill an unknown junior. But having seen the Buddha, he naturally chose the more valuable target. He talked about exchanging one life for another to complete a task..."
At this point, the monks were overwheld with grief, bursting into tears, "Our sect has never been humiliated like this. Master Yunzhi, you must avenge the Buddha and our sect!"
Yunzhi's face was already ashen.
It wasn't that he was particularly close with Pu Xian Buddha; the sudden bad news was not devastating. In fact, Yunzhi had long wished for Pu Xian's death, because once Pu Xian died, Yunzhi would be the only one left capable of taking over and connecting with the previous regi.
Yunzhi wanted Pu Xian dead, but not in this manner, or at this ti!
What chilled Yunzhi to the bone was the involvent of the masked man, who was one of Xu Fan's subordinates. What exactly did this represent?
An obvious answer: it was a demonstration of strength!
And this demonstration made Yunzhi face a reality he least wanted to confront.
Previously, even when Yunzhi was in a dire situation with Xu Fan, he believed he held the advantage in the situation.
Yet this scene was like a slap to Yunzhi's face.
Indeed, Xu Fan couldn't conveniently appear to contact Yunzhi directly, but Pu Xian's death was a wake-up call to him.
Yunzhi could choose to exploit or speculate, to wait and see or even stomp on Xu Fan when in peril, as long as... Yunzhi wasn't afraid to die!
The power of the Mysterious Light Realm seed too weak in this level of conflict, completely mismatched with Yunzhi's expansive ambitions!
It had now beco Yunzhi's greatest weakness!
What exactly was behind Xu Fan? How terrifying was this so-called Li Long? Yunzhi knew nothing about today's Xu Fan! In contrast, Xu Fan had a firm grip on Yunzhi.
"No wonder you traveled so far to the Buddhist Sect, to have attend a trial, as everything had already been planned!"
Yunzhi's face was deathly pale, "With the world as your chessboard and heroes as pieces, Xu Fan, you are beyond !"
Pfft!
Suddenly, Yunzhi spat out a mouthful of blood, his body shook, and he collapsed unconscious.
"Uncle! Uncle, what's wrong? The sect can't be without you!"
The monks were startled by Yunzhi's collapse. Having suffered a great disaster with Pu Xian Buddha dead, and the sect's host being an unreliable Xu Fan, their reliance was solely on Yunzhi! If anything happened to Yunzhi, the sect would be nearly extinct!
"Uncle is too agitated, his emotions unstable. Quick! Elixir! Quickly take uncle for recovery!"
The monks hurriedly carried Yunzhi into a room for treatnt. After much chaos, they finally watched the slowly stabilizing but still unconscious Yunzhi, and breathed slightly easier.
So gazed at the ravaged sect and burst into tears.
Others admired Yunzhi, quietly expressing admiration, "Master Yunzhi, you're a good man! Truly a figure unmatched in loyalty and honor!"
Upon hearing these words, everyone nodded in agreent with these sentints.
Ordinary folks, seeing their superior dead, would likely be delighted! But not Yunzhi; instead, his grief was so intense that it caused him to vomit blood and faint!
This level of loyalty exceeded what was common!
The monks looked at the unconscious Yunzhi in reverence, all quietly leaving the room and carefully closing the doors and windows for him.
With Master Yunzhi here, sohow, everyone felt reassured.
However, for Master Yunzhi, who labored so tirelessly for the sect, under no circumstances should he be disturbed during his rest.
The group dispersed, leaving Yunzhi lying quietly on the bed, his brow furrowed as though still in a dream, worrying and laboring for the sect, exhausting his spirit and heart.
Suddenly, a cold shiver spread through Yunzhi's body, as the room's temperature unexpectedly plumted to a terrifying level.
A woman in white had appeared in the room, her expressionless gaze fixed upon the unconscious Yunzhi...
