Ying Yimei jumped up at Mrs. Ying’s words.
“What? What do you mean it’s not around anymore?”
“After you left for overseas, I thought that since the house was rent out for so little money, I sold it and invested in a pany. I suffered a loss in the end. I was just about to tell you.”
Ying Yimei felt crushed.
The house was not theirs now.
Where else could she find the money to pay back the Li family?
Ying Yimei asked her mother in dismay, “What shall we do now?”
Mrs. Ying hesitated. “There is still a way out. If someone is willing to invest in our pany, we can still turn it around. I have been trying to find an investor but it’s not easy to look for a suitable one.”
“Mom, why did you do this? You’ve never cared much about me the past few years. I don’t need you to support me financially. What have you been spending your money on?” Ying Yimei felt that it was a hopeless situation. “I have said earlier that the house was our only backup.”
Mrs. Ying tried to defend herself. “I was just trying to make ourselves look more presentable. My job pays so little. Once I have enough, you would be able to marry well…”
“They want us to move out.”
Mrs. Ying realized that the situation now looked awful.
“We can rent a house for the time being. Once I find an investment pany, we’ll be alright. Didn’t you graduate from abroad? Surely you have some rich friends who can help us, right?”
Mrs. Ying thought about it for a while.
“If not, then…”
Ying Yimei was curious. “Then what?”
“Go to Grandma Li as a last resort. I am sure she has money. She can definitely spare us a few million dollars. You can persuade her to give it to you. It’s her fault you’re even in this mess.”
“Grandma Li has a nurse.”
Ying Yimei fumed as she thought of the nurse.
“So what? The nurse would not dare meddle into the old lady’s private matters.”
Ying Yimei thought about it again and felt it was a good idea.
She had to think of a way out. They could not possibly be wandering in the streets during New Year.
“Let me think about it.”
Mrs. Ying continued to press her. “What’s there to think about? Just do it. Don’t overthink it.”
“Qingcang, don’t kneel. It’s not your fault. Your dad and I are not that unreasonable. It’s not your fault this happened.”
Li Qingcang had knelt in front of Xie Xuning and Ye Linlang the minute he stepped into the Xie residence.
Ye Tianxin’s heart ached for Li Qingcang.
“Get up.”
Ye Tianxin helped Li Qingcang up.
Wu Tong’s eyes were filled with kindness. “It’s a good thing that Qingcang was alert and prepared. It would’ve been fortunate otherwise. I cannot imagine how that old lady can be so silly…”
“It’s natural for old people not to think clearly as they get older. Wu Tong, don’t blame yourself.”
“I feel bad for Tianxin. Her engagement banquet was ruined.”
Ye Tianxin held Wu Tong’s arm and consoled her.
“Mom, it’s all right. It’s only an engagement banquet, not the wedding. As long as that man is not Qingcang, I don’t care.”
Wu Tong found herself liking Ye Tianxin more and more. She was very endearing.
“Qingcang, listen to me. Tianxin is such a sweet girl. you’d better treat her well.”
