Lin Xiang couldn’t care less about the now frantic Aunt Lin and hurriedly checked Mrs. Lin’s injuries.

"Mom, are you okay?"

Mrs. Lin rotated her arm, "Luckily, I wore thick clothes, otherwise with this brick, I would definitely be hurt. Niuzi, are you alright?"

Lin Xiang shook her head, "You protected well, I wasn’t injured."

Lin Xiang helped Mrs. Lin to stand up.

By this ti, Aunt Lin was already pinned to the ground by Fifth Aunt and several other aunts and ladies.

Even though she was pinned down, she didn’t stop moving, her body kept wriggling in the mud, splashing mud all over a few aunts.

"Oh dear! My new clothes made especially for the New Year, now they’re splattered with mud, how am I going to celebrate New Year like this!"

Mrs. Lin looked at the clothes on the person speaking, which had been washed to a faded white, and waved her hand, "Dirty clothes are nothing to worry about. Co to my house later, I’ll give each of you a few yards of fabric, take the cotton from inside, and make new clothes!"

"Your house is in such a state, and you still have fabric to give us? You’re not joking, are you?"

Mrs. Lin put her hands on her hips, "When have I, Zhao Xiuli, ever not kept my word? Yes, my house might have been destroyed, but I still have the fabric. You all co to Fifth Uncle’s house this afternoon, I will personally cut the fabric for you."

Hearing Mrs. Lin say this, the aunts felt assured and pinned Aunt Lin down even harder.

After making sure Mrs. Lin was all right, Lin Xiang began inspecting the condition of the house.

Thanks to Fifth Uncle’s diligent oversight, the foundation was laid well, otherwise, it wouldn’t have just been a few collapsed walls.

"Niuzi, don’t worry, these walls can be rebuilt by finding a mason later. It’s just that so bricks are broken, and we might need to replace a few."

"Fifth Uncle, thank you so much for your help."

"What are you saying? It was my fault for not watching the house properly, giving your aunt an opportunity. Sigh." Fifth Uncle shook his head and sighed, "What a ss! From now on, your mom might really have no family to return to."

Lin Xiang didn’t need Fifth Uncle to explain further; she had already guessed what happened.

Yu Yuan had been taken away by the police, which ant he really was involved in Huang Jiayun’s case.

Even if he wasn’t the one who stabbed her, he must have hard Huang Jiayun in so way.

Without concrete evidence, the police wouldn’t take soone away so rashly.

Aunt Lin knew it was Lin Xiang who reported Yu Yuan’s situation to the police and thought it was Lin Xiang who hard Yu Yuan, so in anger, both she and Uncle took advantage of the rain while the construction site was unguarded and smashed the house the Lin Family had not yet completed.

Lin Xiang glanced at Mrs. Lin, who was standing there with a hunched back, unsure of what to say. She slowly walked over, putting her hand on Mrs. Lin’s shoulder, "Mom, should we make her pay for the house?"

As long as Mrs. Lin said yes, Lin Xiang would report it to the police, use the law to protect her rights, and ensure Aunt Lin received the punishnt she deserved.

But if Mrs. Lin said no, Lin Xiang wouldn’t pursue Aunt Lin’s responsibility since the loss wasn’t too great, and she could bear it.

Aunt Lin’s situation was different from Yu Yuan’s.

Destroying private property can be diated.

But the other case involved a life, which is a criminal case.

Lin Xiang left the scene for Fifth Uncle to manage and helped Mrs. Lin back to Fifth Aunt’s house.

Dong Sheng had gone out to play with friends, and only Chunya, who was making clothes, was at ho.

"Second Mom, Sister Niu, you’re back." Chunya put down her needlework and ca up, "How’s the house?"

Mrs. Lin shook her head, went directly into the room they slept in at night, and closed the door.

Lin Xiang looked at the closed door, feeling uneasy inside.

"Sister Niu, what’s wrong with Second Mom?"

Lin Xiang shook her head, "It’s nothing, you go on with your work."

Lin Xiang sat on a stool, watching the dripping eaves, her heart unrestful.

She didn’t know if she had done the wrong thing.

From the perspective of the Lin Xiang of the future, she didn’t see anything wrong with informing the police about Yu Yuan’s clues.

Because that was how she was educated from a young age.

But from the standpoint of the 1970s Lin Xiang, Yu Yuan was, after all, her cousin. Although she didn’t like that family and didn’t want to have any dealings with them, they were, after all, Mrs. Lin’s family.

She divulged the clues to the police without informing Mrs. Lin or gaining her approval first.

Although Yu Yuan was caught because he deserved it, Mrs. Lin was right; whether Yu Yuan committed a cri or not, their grudge with Aunt Lin’s family was now irrediably cented.

Lin Xiang might disregard Aunt Lin, but clearly, Mrs. Lin could not.

Lin Xiang sat lost in thought for a long ti until Fifth Uncle and Fifth Aunt returned.

"It’s been settled." Fifth Uncle said, "Although you decided not to report it to the police, we still inford the team leader. The team leader criticized your aunt and requested her to compensate for the damages to your family, but judging by her personality, I doubt she’ll pay."

Fifth Aunt snapped, "She’s already blaming Niuzi for everything. Did you see how ruthless she was just now? She ant to strike seriously. If Second Sister-in-law hadn’t reacted quickly and hugged Niuzi out of the way, that brick would’ve hit the back of Niuzi’s head."

Aunt Lin even wanted Lin Xiang’s life; there’s no way she would pay.

"It’s okay, Fifth Uncle, we’ll handle the expense ourselves. Once the weather clears up, please gather a few people to rebuild the house quickly; I hope we can move in before the year ends."

Firstly, even though Fifth Uncle and Fifth Aunt don’t mind us staying, it’s sowhat inconvenient living in their house.

Secondly, Mrs. Lin has always longed for the new house, and maybe once moved in, she might feel a bit happier.

Fifth Aunt talked for quite a while before realizing Mrs. Lin wasn’t around.

"Niuzi, where’s your mom?"

Lin Xiang pointed to the bedroom, "Fifth Aunt, let cook today."

Fifth Aunt knew there was so tension between the mom and daughter, so she didn’t argue with Lin Xiang.

The preserved pork and sausages that Fifth Aunt brought over beca slightly damp from the rain, needing to be dried once the sun ca out, but so were still edible.

Lin Xiang wasn’t frugal and selected a sizable piece of preserved pork and a whole sausage to cut.

They had been eating at Fifth Aunt’s house, and the rice jar they brought from ho hadn’t been touched by her.

Lin Xiang simply cooked a pot of white rice.

Mrs. Lin enjoyed eating that.

When the food was all laid out on the table, Fifth Aunt exclaid, "Niuzi, are you crazy? Are you planning to live like this?"

"Life will, of course, go on, but improving it occasionally won’t hurt. Fifth Uncle, Fifth Aunt, you and Chunya, Dong Sheng, go eat. I’ll bring so in for my mom."

Lin Xiang picked a large porcelain bowl, filled it halfway with rice, laid a few slices of sausage and preserved pork on top, and took it to Mrs. Lin.
