"You’re able to attend our family gathering, imagine how many invisible benefits this would bring if it ca out!"

"Wang Lijing, oh Wang Lijing, I thought of you as my best friend, but in the end, you used ?"

Zhang Maoting has a fiery nature. Earlier, she could make things difficult for Lin Xiang on behalf of Wang Lijing. Now that she knows what kind of person Wang Lijing is, she naturally wants to expose her true colors.

So, Zhang Maoting dragged the continually resisting Wang Lijing to the gate of the family compound.

"Wang Lijing, I never thought you could be so scheming! Grandpa said having a deep mind isn’t necessarily a flaw, but you shouldn’t have sched against . I’ve always considered you a good friend! But after this matter, I’ve seen your true face clearly. From now on, we are done. I don’t want you as my friend anymore!"

Many people living in the Foreign Language University family compound saw Zhang Maoting exposing Wang Lijing’s true face.

Wang Lijing felt she couldn’t stay any longer. As soon as Zhang Maoting turned to go back inside, she fled imdiately.

Today really was a case of trying to steal a chicken only to end up losing the rice used to lure it!

As soon as Zhang Maoting entered, she heard Lin Xiang say to Zhang Maoyan, "Senior sister, the other day you went to school looking for , saying the number I left you didn’t work? I think I know the reason now."

Zhang Maoyan quickly realized, "Is it related to that Wang?

"Mmhm!" Lin Xiang replied, "Wang Lijing’s mother runs a small shop with the only public phone in our alley, so I left the landline number. You got through, but were told there’s no Lin Xiang, clearly they didn’t want to answer."

Lin Xiang will have to call so old acquaintances once she gets back, so they don’t worry if they couldn’t reach her these days.

She hadn’t thought about this initially, as making phone calls isn’t convenient these days.

But seeing Wang Lijing today and hearing her distort the facts imdiately made Lin Xiang think of the crucial point.

It was truly a petty move, like the behavior you’d see in children quarreling.

A pyrrhic victory indeed!

Zhang Maoting wanted to say sothing while watching Lin Xiang and Zhang Maoyan chat cheerfully, but every ti she opened her mouth, she couldn’t say anything.

Lin Xiang saw her standing there pitifully and expressed her willingness to forgive her.

"This matter isn’t entirely your fault. After all, you’ve known Wang Lijing for years, it’s natural to take her side first. She would beautify herself and badmouth , so it’s understandable you had a bad impression of and wanted to stand up for her."

Zhang Maoting was moved to tears.

She thought Lin Xiang would get mad and ignore her.

It’s not that she cared deeply about Lin Xiang, they had just t today, and the friendship hadn’t ford yet.

But the problem is, Lin Xiang is Grandpa’s only student!

The Zhang family is thriving, with Grandpa having many grandchildren, but Lin Xiang is the only one who drank the traditional tea for students!

She was not as exceptional in studies as her cousin Zhang Maoyan, nor as well-behaved as her sister Zhang Maoqin. For Grandpa, picking between her and Lin Xiang was an obvious choice!

She didn’t expect Lin Xiang to be so kind. Just as she was moved and wanted to befriend Lin Xiang, Lin Xiang suddenly changed her tone.

"But we are adults. We should have our own opinions and judgnts instead of believing whatever others say."

"You’re lucky to be in the Zhang family; those people scheming against you only want benefits from you without much impact directly on you. If you were in an ordinary family and got sched like this, you might have ended up as the scapegoat!"

"But being in the Zhang family doesn’t an you can be brainless. If they affect the teacher and the uncles or aunts through you, that would be a big problem! The Zhang family is a big group, one pull affects everything, we can’t afford to be sched casually!"

Zhang Maoting: I was moved for nothing!

And, who says you’re part of our Zhang family!

But upon thinking again, Lin Xiang has a point; she’s too innocent and naive. If she did end up involved in so bad things because of being sched against, impacting the family, she would be the sinner of the whole family!

"Boo hoo... I know I was wrong! Grandpa, Grandma, can you forgive ?"

After all, she was their granddaughter; Grandma Zhang couldn’t really get angry at Zhang Maoting, especially seeing her crying like this, she pulled her closer and spoke earnestly, "If you’re easily sched again, don’t say you’re my granddaughter. I’m old, I can’t afford such embarrassnt!"

"Grandma?" Zhang Maoting broke down.

"Pfft..."

Lin Xiang couldn’t help but laugh.

No one told her that her teacher’s wife was so adorable!

The matter temporarily ca to an end, thankfully not delaying the family feast.

At the dining table, Lin Xiang was arranged to sit beside Mr. Zhang Sr. That seat was even higher than Uncle Zhang, Zhang Maoyan’s father.

Lin Xiang was at a loss and refused, "Teacher, I’ll just sit with my senior sister."

"Sit beside ."

"But..." Lin Xiang really didn’t want to, although the atmosphere in the Zhang family was harmonious now, she was an outsider and a junior. Sitting next to the main seat was rather inappropriate.

Grandma Zhang glared at Mr. Zhang Sr., "Utter nonsense! Letting Xiangxiang sit here, are you trying to help her or harm her? I know you want the children to see how important Xiangxiang is to us, but it should follow proper norms!"

"Xiangxiang, listen to Grandma, sit with Maoyan!"

"Thank you, Grandma!" Lin Xiang sweetly thanked and nestled with Zhang Maoyan.

Though Zhang Maoyan didn’t talk much, sitting beside her felt surprisingly secure.

The seat to her right was empty, and Zhang Maoting ca over with her dishes, cautiously asking, "Can I sit here?"

"This is your house. You can sit wherever you want; why ask ?"

"But this is your side, should I not ask your opinion first?"

Lin Xiang squinted at Zhang Maoting, "Did you secretly do sothing against again?"

Zhang Maoting: ?

Why does that sound strange?

"Nothing of the sort, don’t wrongfully accuse !"

"Then sit; I’m not so terrible beast who would eat you!"

After those words, she stopped paying attention to Zhang Maoting and turned to Zhang Maoyan, "Senior sister, it’s unlikely we can get the gift for the teacher ready in two days, so I’ve just started on it. Give a few more days, and I’ll deliver it to you as soon as I finish."

"No hurry, a few days won’t make a difference."
