Now reading: Chapter 22 — Lethal Convergence from Shadow Ascension system, a Action novel by Nazareth.

The arena went still.

Not because the fight paused…

But because everyone understood sothing without being told.

This next exchange would decide everything.

Reyn stood at one end of the shattered platform.

Wind no longer moved casually around him.

It obeyed.

Dense.

Focused.

Deadly.

Kael stood at the other end.

Shadow no longer spread outward randomly.

It gathered.

Silent.

Controlled.

Alive.

The instructor’s voice ca out lower than before.

“…Both fighters are entering final state.”

Lyra didn’t blink.

“…Final state?”

The instructor didn’t look away from the arena.

“…Where intent replaces restraint.”

BOOM.

Reyn moved first.

But this ti—

There was no buildup.

No warning.

Just impact.

Wind compressed into a single line.

A cutting force that erased distance itself.

Kael reacted instantly.

Shadow Step—

But the attack followed him.

Not physically.

Predictively.

Kael’s eyes narrowed sharply.

“…Tracking?”

System flickered violently.

====================

WARNING!!!

Target Lock Adaptive Technique Detected

Evasion Probability Decreasing

====================

Kael adjusted mid-motion.

Instead of dodging forward—

He dropped backward into shadow space.

WHOOSH!

The wind strike passed above him, carving the air where he would have been.

BOOM!

The platform split open behind him.

Kael reappeared, sliding slightly.

Blood already dripping from his arm.

Reyn exhaled slowly.

“…You’re still reading.”

Kael replied quietly.

“…I’m still surviving.”

Reyn smiled faintly.

“Then survive this.”

Reyn lifted both hands.

The wind around him stopped spinning randomly.

It aligned.

Layered.

Structured.

Like a collapsing domain.

BOOM.

The entire arena pressure dropped.

Students at the edges felt their knees weaken.

Lyra widened her eyes.

“…He’s compressing the entire battlefield…”

The instructor stepped back half a step.

“…That technique shouldn’t be usable in first-year combat…”

Reyn’s voice was calm.

“…Lethal Convergence.”

The air tightened.

Space itself felt narrower.

Kael stood still.

Watching.

The system reacted instantly.

====================

Danger Level: EXTRE

Area Effect: Full Platform Lockdown

Escape Routes: 0

Recomndation: Survival Mode Engaged

====================

Kael exhaled slowly.

“…So you’re closing the arena.”

Reyn nodded slightly.

“Yes.”

“So you can’t run.”

Kael tilted his head.

“…I never planned to.”

Silence.

Then—

Reyn moved his hand downward.

BOOM!!!

The wind collapsed inward.

Not outward.

Inward.

A crushing convergence field ford.

Everything inside it was being forced toward a single point.

Kael’s feet slid slightly.

Stone cracked beneath him.

CRACK—CRACK—CRACK!

Lyra’s eyes widened.

“…That pressure is insane…”

Kael’s body began to resist.

Shadow barrier ford—

CRACK!

It fractured instantly.

Kael narrowed his eyes.

“…So brute force compression.”

Reyn appeared in front of him instantly.

Close.

Final distance.

“…End.”

BOOM!!!

The strike landed.

The entire arena exploded outward with wind force.

Dust and debris rose into the sky.

Silence.

For a few seconds…

Nothing moved.

Reyn stood at the center.

Breathing slightly heavier.

“…It’s over.”

A few students swallowed hard.

“…Did he…?”

Lyra didn’t speak.

Her eyes stayed fixed on the dust cloud.

Then—

Sothing moved.

Slowly.

From inside the broken center.

Shadow.

Reyn’s eyes narrowed.

“…No way.”

Kael stepped out.

Staggered slightly.

One knee almost touching the ground.

Blood at the corner of his mouth.

But still standing.

Still conscious.

Still looking at Reyn.

The arena went completely silent.

Lyra whispered.

“…He survived that?”

The instructor’s eyes sharpened.

“…No.”

“That wasn’t survival.”

A pause.

“…That was adaptation.”

Kael exhaled slowly.

His voice ca out quieter than before.

“…I understand it now.”

Reyn frowned slightly.

“…Understand what?”

Kael lifted his hand.

Shadow condensed—but differently now.

More structured.

Less chaotic.

Like a blade finally being sharpened.

“…Your convergence.”

System flickered violently.

====================

Adaptive Model Complete: 89%

Shadow Prediction: Stabilized

New State Detected: Combat Clarity Mode

====================

Kael stepped forward.

One step.

Then another.

“…You compress everything into one point.”

Reyn narrowed his eyes.

“…So?”

Kael replied.

“…Then I don’t resist it.”

A pause.

“…I redirect it.”

BOOM.

Kael moved.

Shadow Step.

Not away.

Not back.

Into the convergence flow.

Gasps erupted instantly.

“What is he doing?!”

“He’s going inside it?!”

Lyra’s eyes widened.

“…That’s suicide…”

But Kael didn’t hesitate.

He moved with the pressure.

Not against it.

With it.

Reyn’s eyes widened slightly.

“…You’re riding the collapse?”

Kael appeared within the convergence field itself.

Barely stable.

Barely alive.

But positioned.

Perfectly.

“…Shadow Break.”

CLASH!!!

The convergence point fractured.

Not destroyed.

Interrupted.

The field destabilized instantly.

BOOM!!!

The arena pressure collapsed outward violently.

Reyn was forced backward for the first ti in this phase.

His feet skidded across stone.

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Then—

Reyn laughed softly.

“…You’re insane.”

Kael stood trembling slightly.

“…I prefer efficient.”

Reyn raised his head.

Wind gathered again.

But slower now.

Respectfully.

“…Then let’s finish this properly.”

Kael nodded slightly.

“…Agreed.”

The arena held its breath again.

Because now—

Neither of them was testing anymore.

They were deciding who would break first.
