-----

"Fuck!! It’s that bitch, the Red of War!!"

The Daemon cursed and its body flashed through the mountains, moving at a speed that turned the terrain into a blur, rock faces and ridgelines disappearing behind it before they could fully register.

It wasn’t just afraid of her.

That wasn’t the right word for it.

Traumatized was closer. A thousand tis over, across a thousand different encounters, across deaths and returns and deaths again. The treaty between corruption and the divine kingdoms held firm on paper, both sides bound by agreents that kept full scale war at a specific distance.

But so of the monarchs’ children were shaless.

They would cross those lines and dare soone to say sothing about it, absorb the punishnt after the fact and consider it a fair trade.

Victoria was the most notorious of all of them.

It would rather face the punishnt waiting for it on the other side than stand in front of that woman for another second.

The mountains blurred past.

It pushed harder.

"Where to?"

A cold voice landed directly in its ear.

The Daemon’s next blink collapsed before it completed, direction dissolving mid-movent as a wonderland surged up around it and swallowed the space it had been trying to escape into. The domain warped everything. Up. Down. Left. The sense of where it was trying to go kept shifting the mont it committed to a direction.

"Fuck."

It tried to blink again.

The domain distorted the read imdiately, pulling the destination sideways just enough that arriving there ant nothing.

"You’re not as strong as that guy."

Enzo’s voice ca from sowhere in the void, unhurried.

He stepped through the dark space of the domain with his void cutters already out, reading the movent inside it the way soone reads a current in water. The Daemon was fast. That wasn’t a question. At the divine stage its blink ability allowed it to move from one fixed point to another in an instant, no gap between departure and arrival, as long as there was no obstacle blocking the line between.

High tier.

Constant.

Even standing still it was never actually in the position it appeared to occupy, shifting perpetually, using movent itself as a defense, making a still target into a lie.

Enzo watched the pattern.

He didn’t chase it.

—slash

His cutter moved through the line the Daemon had committed to a half second before it arrived there.

The arm didn’t have ti to not be there.

The Daemon scread, the sound raw and instinctive, and lurched sideways inside the domain, trying to fold the pain into montum, keep moving, keep the pattern going.

’I have to get out of here. I have to!!’

It blinked. Arrived sowhere else. Blinked again. The domain caught the second one and bent it slightly, enough to put it six feet from where it intended.

Not enough distance.

Never enough.

It made a decision.

Pulling a spear from its person, skull-tipped, dense with channeled ability, it stopped trying to escape clean and started calculating sothing different.

All it needed was one committed line.

Channel everything into the spear. Full force. Blink the spear itself halfway through the domain wall and let the energy do the rest, blow the opening wide enough to step through before the domain could seal it back.

It was a last option.

The kind of plan that required everything at once.

It started channeling.

The spear head began pulling light toward it, the skull at the tip darkening as the energy compressed into it, building toward the throw that would either work or wouldn’t.

It thought through the timing.

Commit to the line. Throw. Blink behind the throw. Move through the gap before....

Slash.

Enzo had watched it thinking.

He had watched the Daemon stop moving in the specific way sothing stops moving when it’s preparing to commit to one direction. The stillness of soone choosing.

He picked the vertical line. The one it would have to blink through to reach the throw’s trajectory.

He cut through it before it got there.

The blade opened a deep line across its side, not clean, not quick. Deep. The kind of cut that changed the body’s math imdiately.

The Daemon lurched.

Enzo didn’t stop.

—grip

A chain ca out of the dark and wrapped around it while it was still processing the wound, pulling tight before the next blink could form properly.

Caught.

It felt the chain settle and knew.

It threw the spear anyway.

One last committed action, everything still loaded into it, the plan enacted because there was nothing else left to enact.

Enzo didn’t allow it.

The cutters moved.

[You have slain a Daemon]

[You have received a Divine Spark]

[Harnessing Void Energy]

The Daemon didn’t see the final cut coming.

Its head ca apart before the notifications finished arriving, and the thing that had been waking it up, the divine spark sitting at the core of it, was pulled out of the dissolving body and absorbed into Enzo before the light finished leaving it.

The domain settled.

Quiet.

Enzo stood in the space where the Daemon had been, cutters still out, chain retracting slowly.

He looked at the notifications for a mont.

Then let them close.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Millions of light years away sothing moved.

Not a flinch. Not surprise.

Anger.

The kind that didn’t need to raise its voice because it had never needed to. It boiled inside a being too old to call by a na that still ant anything, sitting at a distance so vast that the battlefield on Varo King World was less than a speck against it.

Another one of its sons had been killed.

Not fallen.

Not returned.

Killed.

The distinction registered the way a blade registers when it finally finds the gap it’s been looking for, slow and certain and impossible to pretend didn’t happen.

The being didn’t move yet.

But sothing in the stillness changed.
