Xu Qigang was the first to arrive at the search and rescue site, and following the given coordinates, he led the team into the deep mountains for rescue operations. The plane crash was devastating, with debris and scattered wreckage found over an area of dozens of miles. Not to ntion, it was night, and the complex terrain along with the heavy rain made the rescue efforts extrely challenging.
He understood clearly that every minute of delay increased Su Jiang’s life risk by another minute.
“Captain, it’s impossible to continue the search and rescue.”
“Captain, we must halt for now.”
The swamp, gorges, wild beasts, and the torrential rain had left the comrades with varying degrees of injuries.
“Captain, the temporary command headquarters is calling, requesting your imdiate withdrawal.” the communicator shouted loudly.
Xu Qigang squinted his eyes; the rain, as big as beans, splashed onto him but didn’t affect his judgnt at all. Through the curtain of rain, he looked at the wreckage of the plane before him, feeling a sinking heart. He had promised Xiao Ning that he would definitely bring back President Su.
“Captain, there’s nothing here. We’ve already searched everywhere, but there’s no sign of President Su.” Chen Yingjie reported swiftly. The location they were currently at was the final crash site of the plane at that ti.
“Take the plane’s black box with us.”
“Yes!”
From the scene, it could be surmised that there was an explosion when the plane hit the ground. Hearing that Su Jiang wasn’t there, he felt slightly relieved. President Su not being there actually indicated a possibility of survival; if they had been in the main wreck, even if they hadn’t died in the crash, they would have been killed in the secondary explosion.
“Captain, the temporary command headquarters is asking you to pick up the phone.” The communicator urged dutifully.
Xu Qigang took the satellite phone, and Shen Feihu’s voice ca through, “Xu Qigang, report your position.”
“Here!” Xu Qigang’s expression was solemn as he promptly reported their position, including coordinates and reference points.
“It’s too dangerous. The area you are in is surrounded by swamps in all directions, and a kiloter ahead lies the infamous Death Valley.” Shen Feihu gasped in amazent, then shouted: “The command center orders you to retreat imdiately, and take care along the way, proceed with caution.”
“Yes!” Although Xu Qigang was reluctant to leave, he couldn’t disobey orders.
The temporary command headquarters was set up on the outskirts of the forest. Xu Qigang led his team back to the command center during dawn, the darkest hour of the night. It was still raining outside.
“Hello Leader, hello President…” Xu Qigang promptly greeted upon entering the command center.
The command center was large, with quite a few senior leaders already there, including Shen Feihu and Qin Yue. When he headed into the mountains, the command center hadn’t been established yet, but within just five hours, it had beco sizable.
It was obvious how seriously the two regions regarded Su Jiang.
“Forget about the greetings, report the situation in the mountains to .”
“Yes! How are you all? Were there any casualties?”
Xu Qigang shook his head, taking the towel Qin Yue handed him and casually wiped the rain off his head and face, “Only a few personnel were injured, they have already received dical treatnt.”

“Quickly, tell us about the situation.” a tall, thin man urged: “How is our President? Was he found?”
Xu Qigang shook his head, “The terrain in the mountains is complex; we found the final crash site of the plane, where a secondary explosion occurred.”
Everyone’s faces turned pale.
Qin Yue asked cautiously, “Then our President? Our President wasn’t there, right?” He was part of the Southern Union, brought up by Su Jiang. Back then, the Southern Border war was legendary and invincible. Qin Yue, Xu Qigang, and ng Fan all belonged to the Southern Union, and naturally had a special bond with President Su.
