She even wanted to seize everything that belonged to her.
But none of that mattered now. At the mont, staying alive was more important; her little life ca first.
"Sheng Ning, I’m begging you, don’t kill , don’t kill . For the sake of us growing up together since we were kids, spare this once!" Qin Cuifen pleaded pitifully, crying with snot and tears all over her face.
"We grew up together?" If not for that, she wouldn’t be this angry. In her past life she’d been an idiot, trusting her wholeheartedly and treating her as her most reliable friend. And her? One face in front, another behind her back.
Spreading rumors everywhere, badmouthing her.
All that crap about being a slut, about the upper beam being crooked so the lower beam would be slanted—it all ca out of her mouth.
In the end, no one within ten miles and eight villages dared marry her, all because of Qin Cuifen.
"Are you trying to remind how, when we were kids, you put on one act in front of and another behind my back, talking shit about and making up lies?"
Qin Cuifen was so scared she stumbled back several steps. No wonder Sheng Ning had changed so much. So... "So you knew all along?"
"That’s right!"
"When did you find out?"
A trace of confusion flickered across her face, then she jolted awake, only to see Qin Cuifen lunging at her with a hideous expression. In that split second of panic, the weapon in her hand seed to grow a soul of its own—without even aiming, it fired accurately and hit Qin Cuifen in the leg.
"Ah..." Qin Cuifen crashed to the floor with a bloodcurdling scream.
"You’re about to die and you still think I’m an idiot." Sheng Ning sneered, stood up, and looked down at her from above, the gun in her hand aid squarely between Qin Cuifen’s brows.
"I beg you, don’t kill , don’t kill ." Cold sweat as fine as white fuzz broke out all over Qin Cuifen’s body; she even forgot the pain in her leg. "Sheng Ning, you can’t kill , I’m still useful. Feng Zhenzhen being burned to death—that was , I did it, I did it."
"Yeah! The whole world knows you did it."
"No, soone ordered to do it. Don’t kill and I’ll tell you who’s behind it all." Qin Cuifen grabbed at this like a drowning person clutching a straw, eyes wide and wild as she said viciously, "This person is vicious and ruthless, and her next target is you. If you kill , you’ll die too. She will never let you go—you’ll end up worse than Feng Zhenzhen."
"No need. I don’t need you to tell who that person is." Sheng Ning finished speaking and decisively pulled the trigger.
The bullet struck Qin Cuifen right between the brows. Her eyes were locked wide open as she collapsed in a pool of blood, her breath gone.
Gun in hand, Sheng Ning felt as if all the weight in her body had been drained away, leaving her hollow, like she might faint at any mont.
Step by step, she slowly shuffled over to the sofa and sat down. Her face felt icy cold; when she raised a hand to touch it, her fingertips ca away damp.
"I’m not crying." She firmly wiped the tear tracks from her face. "This is happiness." Two lifetis of hatred, finally settled.
From now on, there would be no more Qin Cuifen, and that shadow in her heart would be gone as well.
"Pa pa..." Applause ca from the staircase. Daives said approvingly, "Not bad! Gu said you’d never killed anyone before, so I was a little uneasy. Now that you’ve broken through this barrier in your heart, I can relax."
What he valued in working with Sheng Ning was her gun skills; as for the theater—that was just sothing he’d set up for her to play with.
Sheng Ning stood up and nodded to Daives in thanks. "Thank you."
"No need to be polite, we’re partners." Daives handed her the file in his hand. "This is the budget application you gave earlier. I’ve approved it. Starting tomorrow, all the old employees will return. As for the rest, you call the shots. How you recruit people, how you fire people—it’s all up to you. But I have one condition."
